Some great news tonight coming out of Columbia:
French-Colombian politician Ingrid Betancourt and three Americans were rescued from leftist guerrillas by Colombian troops, Defense Minister Juan Manuel Santos said on Wednesday.
Santos said all of the former hostages were in reasonably good health after being held for years in secret jungle camps.
The Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, known as the FARC, has been holding about 40 high-profile hostages it has sought to exchange for jailed rebels.
Betancourt, a former presidential candidate with dual nationality, was kidnapped by the FARC in 2002. She was last seen in a rebel video at the end of last year looking gaunt and despondent.
The Americans, three Defense Department contract workers, were captured in 2003 after their light aircraft crashed in the jungles while on a counternarcotics operation.
I love that it “happens” to coincide with John McCain being in Columbia at the same time.
As The Campaign Spot noted, “John McCain goes to the southern hemisphere, and FARC releases their hostages.”
It reminds me of when Reagan took office and within hours Iran released the hostages.
I’m sure BHO is working on his press release to denounce the use of violence to rescue the hostages instead of “meeting unconditionally” with the leaders of FARC for some touchy-feely mutual masturbation.
________
Speaking of BHO and FARC…
You might remember a few months ago when the Colombian military conducted an operation against a guerrilla camp inside Ecuador’s territory against Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia (FARC), also known as the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia.
During that military operation, the laptop computer of FARC’s international spokesman and second-in-command was found to have some sophomoric love letters to BHO, hoping that FARC and BHO could be boyfriend and girlfriend if BHO wins the presidency.
Just one more difference between the two candidates: they want to make sweet love to BHO, but when McCain shows up in their hood, they wet their pants and start letting hostages go.

The operation by the Columbian Army was astounding! A remarkable plan executed flawlessly. To me, it ranks right up there with the raid on Entebbe, Uganda airport by the IDF.
I do think the timing of McCain being in Columbia was interesting, but not related, and his being informed about the operation was a courtesy I don’t think Uribe would have extended to B-HO, for security reasons.
I also loved the reaction of the Columbian people, when they heard about the rescue, celebrating in the streets, causing huge traffic jams, and shouting “Today We Are Free” and “Free,Free, Free!” Uribe’s goal of smashing the sorry FARCers when he became President just may be fully realized when he leaves office in 2010.
Could you explain your theory of McCain’s awesomeness in greater detail because it seems irrelevant to actual news reports of the event.
Is your idea that McCain was going to go Rambo on their asses? Hypnotize them with the Straight Talk?
The degree to which you’ve pulled a 180 on your McCain stance–from denouncing him as the second worst candidate to Hillary to implying that he somehow freed hostages in Columbia–proves what a partisan child you are.
Using your theory I’m going to say that Barack Obama is the reason I had a delicious turkey melt last night. After all, he WAS in the continental United States when it happened, so it stands to reason, right?
mmmm… Turkey melt: Change I can believe in!
I’ve been amazed by the lack of commentary on the main cable news channels about this “coincidence”. I have a hunch that McCain had something to do with the whole thing, possibly was informed by the Bush administration, but it all seems to be kept hush-hush for some reason. I can only speculate about the reasons. Perhaps McCain is modestly staying on the fringes in order not to appear to be milking it for his campaign. Perhaps it really was a coincidence. I’m just amazed that the pundits weren’t all over it.
“but when McCain shows up in their hood, they wet their pants and start letting hostages go.”
Haha, probably the most asinine comment I’ve come across today, thank you for the laugh.
It worked for Reagan and Oliver North to manipulate the arms deals and get the hostages released just as reagan took office.
McCain was down there to try and shove CAFTA down their throats. NAFTA has worked so well for us, our jobs, and the Mexican farmers, after all. Bush took office with huge budget surpluses. Now, the deficits are bigger than they’ve ever been AND they don’t include occupation (what they euphamisticly call war) spending! Meanwhile, jobs are gone, 47 million are uninsured, and the oil companies have record breaking profits.
The Colombian military had spent months infiltrating FARC and were able to direct that the hostages be brought to a location to be transferred to another hideout by helicopter. Moving hostages was common in FARC and the ruse worked. The Colombians deserve all the credit. And when Betencourt compared the rescuers to the Israelis, leftard heads exploded all over the world.
Is your idea that McCain was going to go Rambo on their asses? Hypnotize them with the Straight Talk?
No, McCain told Uribe that if he didn’t win and Obamamama got in, who FARC loves, the Colombians were fucked and to act now.
Tell me how in your fantasy world the Colombians would be fucked if Obama wins.
This thread is so detached from reality I feel like I’ve stumbled into a meeting of the John Birch Society.
In the real world, Colombians would be fucked if their American ally was perceived as weak by terrorists and Obamamama is perceived as weak by terrorists.
Can’t believe I have to explain the obvious to you. Then again, you are a pinko, maoist, self-loathing, commie, running dog lackey, so I shouldn’t be too surprised.
We now know that the hostages were released because a multimillion dollar ransom was paid to FARC.
Guess who paid for this. That’s right, the US taxpayers.
Well, then!
How can we dispute the word of such a credible source.

Here’s another story from the Australian, only this one identifies all parties involved.
My, what a difference a day or two makes.

Um……..hate to break it to you but the world does not revolve around the USA. It’s just the people who live there seem to think it does – give the credit to Columbia!!!
