A true American and Texas hero has paid the ultimate sacrifice for our great nation:
As the son of legal residents from Mexico, Edgar A. Heredia wanted to give back to the country that had been so good to his family.
Last Thursday, the 28-year-old staff sergeant gave his life in Afghanistan.
Heredia died in combat in the western province of Farah during a combat mission in what had been a particularly deadly month for coalition forces there, according to the Department of Defense.
That thought is completely antithetical to most Liberals, who believe instead that their country owes so much to them…
Heredia enlisted in the Marines after graduating from Taylor High School, in the Alief Independent School District, in 1998.
He planned to make it a career, Sam Heredia said.
“We have a loyalty to this country, and we feel as though we have to repay it,” he said. “He chose the Marines, and I went into Border Patrol.”
As a Marine, Heredia worked in reconnaissance, served as a sniper, and recently became a reconnaissance team leader, Sam Heredia said.
“He loved his job. He loved doing what he did,” he said.
“As a family, we are very proud of him. He’s our hero.”
America has lost a true patriot and a man of true honor. The Heredia family has my deepest respect and condolences.

On Monday I will stand to honor Sergeant Heredia. I regret I was not at the airport when he returned.
I have watched the ‘raw’ video on a local tv station’s site.
It is very moving, there is no commentary, just the aircraft arriving, the casket being removed from the aircraft, and the honor guard.
Sergenat Heredia must have been an exceptional man and Marine. He had attained senior NCO rank at the age of 28 (young age to me).
His Marine unit was very selective.
Rest in peace young warrior.

I served with Edgar twice. I am here now in Afghanistan wishing I could be there to see him off, as do all of his brothers on his team. He will be missed but never forgotten. He is one of the few “Special Operators” of our small community that has given the ultimate sacrifice. Go with God and watch over us brother!!

To the family of Eddie, my prayers are with you. Ive just learned of this tragedy and wanted you to know many others share your pain. Ive worked with this fine Marine in Farah Afghanistan for a short time & am having a hard time coping with this loss. Working there as a contractor, Ive tried not to become too attached to any service members for these reasons exactly. But with Eddie, there was no avoiding his humble congenial personality. Please have faith in God & know that your son is in a good place. We are here for you. God bless.
Heredia, all we’re going to miss you. I remember when you came in to the Bay with a bunch of boot lance corporals. Even then you stood out as someone who possessed a certian quality… Something about you made a person feel at ease.
I just thought about you two times this past week. Someone stumbled upon one of my old team leader books that had your name in it from a limited area tour. Don’t worry, it said you got the most off reacts (but I did put you in Alpha Goon a bunch of times).
The second time is when i found an old picture of 3rd Platoon, 1st Section. We’re all in our dress blue deltas for inspection. I did inspeciton of the section out on the catwalk before Captian Briney had us get in formation. Everyone looked good excpet for Perkins who looked like a bag of wrinkles, and Mix, who had recently shaved his eyebrows for no good reason.
It was an early summer day… sunny. Must have been around April or May of 2001. I remember we went to some pizza place for lunch that day in our deltas since we were in the rear, and someone asked me if we were allowed order beer.
Its hard to believe that was so long ago. Thanks for reminding me of that Heredia… Hard to believe that I just though about you, and now tonight I get the news that you are no longer with us…
I know you’ll be watching over us. We’ll be missing you. You were a damn fine marine, and I’m very proud to have served with you.
