Gov Rick Perry Tells World Court to Get Bent

The international “World Court” somehow or another has it in their heads that they have a say in US law.

You might recall that back in March, the United States Supreme Court ruled that the international world court has no jurisdiction in US or US states law.

From that decision:

Chief Justice John Roberts, writing for the majority, disagreed. Roberts said the international court decision cannot be forced upon the states.

The president may not “establish binding rules of decision that pre-empt contrary state law,” Roberts said.

Apparently the world court didn’t get the memo, as they have issued another “ruling” today “prohibiting” the United States and, more specifically, Texas from executing 5 illegal Mexican murderers. To include the vile piece of sub-human shit named Jose Ernesto Medellin.

The World Court ordered the United States on Wednesday to do all it could to halt the imminent executions of five Mexicans until the court makes a final judgment in a dispute over suspects’ rights.

[snip]

“The court indicates that the United States of America shall take all measures necessary to ensure that five Mexican nationals are not executed pending its final judgment,” Judge Rosalyn Higgins said.

On behalf of Texas, let me go ahead and say, “Go fuck yourself, World Court.”

Thankfully (and expectedly), Gov. Rick Perry feels the same way:

Texas will go ahead with the scheduled Aug. 5 execution of Houston rapist-killer Jose Medellin despite Wednesday’s United Nations world court order for a stay, a spokesman for Gov. Rick Perry said.

[snip]

Perry’s office dismissed the argument.

“The world court has no standing in Texas and Texas is not bound by a ruling or edict from a foreign court,” Perry spokesman Robert Black said.

“It is easy to get caught up in discussions of international law and justice and treaties. It’s very important to remember that these individuals are on death row for killing our citizens.”

Good for you, Gov. Perry.

  1. They prohibit Texas carrying out these executions?
    That’s hysterical!
Come and make us you shit-heads!
These alleged jurists can sit there and pass wind along with their rulings, but they have no say whatsoever in Texas law, and Thank God for that.

  3. Henh, this state was based on the “Come And Take It” principle, before it was a state.

  4. The donk goofs are trying to pass some kind of legislation requiring that the cases be reviewed (for what, I don’t know). However, it will not be in time for Medellin or for anyone if it fails. I am tired of the citizens of mexico always demanding more rights than the citizens of the US are afforded. They really don’t know how much Medellin is detested. It is good that he is the first to go.

  7. I just read the Malkin piece. I need to lookup Vienna Convention. Sounds like a monthly meeting at Downtown San Fran.

How bout this; if you are in the country legally, maybe you should be given the opportunity to speak with your consulate. If you are here illegally, you dont even get a trial.

I think the US Citizen that was mixed up with this gang has already been disposed of. Time to get rid of the rest and perhaps I wont get a toll booth erected in my driveway next year

Who stopped him? Last time I checked, every police department allows the arrestee a number of free telephone calls.

  14. Anonymous, I’m impressed by your abilities to count backwards from 18 to 15 – I believe you will manage to count down to zero without any mistakes even if you don’t prove it here.

  16. August 5th is a Tuesday?

I think I’ll make the 3 hour ride to Hunstville that afternoon and stand across the street from the anti-DP dolts with my “Fry Meddelin then send him back to Mexico” t-shirt.

Capped off by a good loud cheer of, “Well done and about time,” the moment he’s confirmed dead. I might even mix in a cultural “ariba!”.

  19. It will be interesting to see if the Lopez family shows up for the execution:

Medellin, O’Brien, and Cantu also raped and murdered Patricia Lourdes Lopez, a 27-year-old mother of two young children. They took turns raping her before stabbing and strangling her. O’Brien’s prints were found on a beer can under her body and the same type of belt used to murder Jennifer Ertman was found tied around Mrs. Lopez’ neck. Semen found on her body was matched by DNA to Medellin. When confronted with the evidence, O’Brien confessed that the three kidnapped, raped, and murdered Lopez.

  20. Perry has chance to show another side of Texas justice
Governor should honor U.S. commitment to treaty terms

A new Houston editorial from Senator Rodney Ellis and law professor Craig Jackson argues that Gov. Perry and the Texas Board of Pardons should follow the International Court of Justice’s order to stay the executions of the Mexican citizens in Texas. They believe the World Court’s decision was the “right thing to do” and Gov. Perry “would do well to consider how defiance of the World Court ruling will affect the safety of Americans abroad who rely on the same treaty protections that Texas violated in these cases.” The World Court argues that the U.S. is in violation of the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations agreement that law enforcement would ensure that foreigner arrests would be quickly reported to their nations’ consulates. The reason the U.S. entered into that treaty was to ensure that American citizens would have access to American consular officials if arrested abroad.

“American officials can provide a number of services for Americans in trouble to assure proper and fair treatment. And on countless occasions, U.S. consular officials have intercede with foreign authorities to protect the rights of wrongly detained Americans. But in order to secure this access for Americans traveling abroad, the United States had to ensure that it would provide access for foreigners in the United States. This is what it did in ratifying the treaty,” states the editorial. Citing concern for every American missionary, teacher, or tourist in Central or East Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and elsewhere, the editorial argues, “Given the issues at stake for all Americans, it is only right that Congress and the Texas Legislature be given the opportunity to ensure our nation lives up to the promises it made to its treaty partners.”

By putting a euro coin into a slot machine, people can watch from behind a security cord as the life-size latex mannequin of a shirtless prisoner begins to convulse, then to fry and smoke, before finally slumping down dead in a faithful reproduction of a death row execution.
