There are 5-cups of kibble in the bowl on the left. Otis’ bowl on the right has about 2 cups in it. Repeat twice daily.
And the 5 cups almost always disappear quicker than the 2 cups.

I’m starting to work with a dog whisperer this morning. Interesting story how I met him … walking by my house with his huge dog while my rascal of a cocker spaniel ran to the street and “tried” to chase and intimidate them. Anyhow, this very cool young man and I got to talking and he OFFERED to train ME to train my dog for FREE, so I’m taking him up on it. It will be real interesting to see how the dog whisperer thing works.
I had that same problem with the last Alaskan Malamute that I rescued in August of 2007. It took him about 7 months and now he eats his food slowly. When I first got him as a 2 year old from the rescue he was really under weight, 66 pounds and 31″ inches tall, basically fully grown but seriously underweight. 2 1/2 months later he was at 93 pounds and his intake reduced to normal.
The solution to that is really simple given a little time. Get yourself two or three river rocks, about 3-4″ in diameter and place them in the food dish every time you feed your dog. It slows them down and also at the same time helps them properly digest their daily intake.
With time and watching your dog eat you will know when it is time that you can remove the rocks from his food dish.
Along the lines of training dogs the first thing I learned from a very competent professional trainer is that I needed more training then my dog. Once I was taught the proper methology then it was easier to teach the dog.
