I’ve been tracking the gruesome story of Joseph Edwards Duncan III since July of 2005…

See:

But I haven’t written anything new on him in nearly 3 years as there has been nothing to report. Today, however, I noticed that my referral log is spinning with searches for info on Duncan, the Groene family, and the horrendous murders.

Which means that Duncan must be back in the news. And he is:

BOISE, Idaho — Joseph Edward Duncan III is a sadistic, detail-oriented rapist and killer who went on a GPS-guided quest to abduct and rape children before he settled on a Coeur d’Alene family, U.S. Attorney Tom Moss told a federal jury Wednesday.Duncan, who is representing himself at the sentencing hearing, told the jury that most of Moss’ description of events was “fair and accurate.” He also said he would testify “to clarify things.”

Last year, Duncan pleaded guilty to 10 federal charges for kidnapping, raping and killing Dylan Groene, 9, and kidnapping and sexually assaulting Shasta Groene, then 8. He had already pleaded guilty in state court to killing Slade Groene, 13, his mother, Brenda Groene, and her fiance, Mark McKenzie.

The six-woman, nine-man jury (12 jurors and three alternates) mostly kept their composure as Moss detailed the grisly crimes against Dylan and Shasta. Some jurors wrinkled their faces during some of the more graphic parts of Moss’ opening statement.

The only thing Duncan seemed to disagree with was the graphic description of how he raped Dylan at a cabin in Montana, videotaped the brutal attack, then killed Dylan in front of Shasta a short time later.

If ever there was a case for the death penalty, Joseph Duncan deserves it much or more than anybody in the history of the world.

In May 2005, Duncan went to Idaho, broke into the Groene home and bludgeoned 13-year-old Slade Groene, his mother, Brenda Groene, and her fiance, Mark McKenzie with a hammer, before abducting Shasta (8) and Dylan (9) and taking them to a remote campsites and other locations in Montana. After sexually traumatizing the children for 8 weeks, Duncan killed Dylan in front of his little sister and burned his body.

Besides the horrific nature of the crimes, what caught my attention was the fact that Duncan was a prolific blogger — and had anybody actually been reading his writings thousands of red-flags would have gone off. His blog, Blogging the Fifth Nail, is still up.

It’s a frightening insight into the mind of a psychopath.

The sentencing hearing is expected to last up to 6 weeks. Though I can’t see how any jury would need more than 2 minutes to sentence this animal to death.

This scum makes me want to puke.

I read his blog, and it’s just whacked. A lot of it had already been taken down, but what was still posted was just plain out there.

KW,
You have a stronger stomach, and are much more curious, than I.
I won’t even look. I’ll just wait for the jury to wretch in disgust, then send this creature to the demise he so richly deserves.

I hope he gets the death penalty- he deserves it! A sick person like this will not be healed. He killed a little boy in my area (Riverside county) and he’s been linked to other child rapes, etc. This scum needs to be put to death and not a burden on our society.

I can’t wait until they put this sicko to death. I want to know when law reform is going to change in favor of victims. Individuals like Duncan should be given life without parole the first time they are tried and convicted. Mandantory!!! Nothing in this world angers me more than when an adult takes advantage of the innocence of childhood. I have been following this case since it first happened and just last year poor Zina Linnick in Tacoma, WA was abducted and killed by another offender just like Duncan……….When are we all going to say NO MORE!!! and have a zero tolerance for these sicko’s!!

I have never posted a comment on a blog. still, I felt compelled to comment on this case. it seems to me to be the most horrific case of a sadistic predator of all time. I read inflammatory comments of the punishments Duncan should have inflicted upon him & become temporarily engaged & hopeful. then the high subsides. then I realize it doesn’t even matter. then I think of the kids & then i’m just sad. I am not a huge death penalty advocate nor would I be opposed to having this person “disposed of”. one thing I am certain of is that restrictions on sex offenders need to be a hundred-fold stronger than how they stand @ present. ankle bracelets, computerized monitoring, Orwellian style for the rest of their lives. once u have stolen liberty from another u have no right to claim it for yourself.

Got something you want to say?
