The biggest contrived story of the entire campaign so far is the “John McCain doesn’t know how many houses he has” meme.

It’s all anybody wanted to talk about yesterday…

Look people…John McCain and his wife are exceptionally wealthy. As our Obama and his wife. As are Kerry and his wife. As are Edwards and his wife and mistress. As are Bill and his life partner, Hillary.

I think the Left was making so much hay and noise about his yesterday for one simple reason…to deflect attention away from the real big story of the day yesterday, which is new revelations as to Obama’s close relationship with unrepentant terrorist William Ayers (what does Obama and Osama have in common? They both have friends who bombed the Pentagon).

It seems that Obama and Ayers are much tighter and have worked together more closely than Obama’s previous lie of  “he’s just some guy that lives in my neighborhood” story.

Remember, Barry Oh — it’s the cover up that will get you.

Riehl World has a great post on why Obama’s tenure as the Chairman of the Board of the Chicago Annenberg Challenge (CAC) is more worrisome than just his connection to Ayers. Namely that it shows his dismal failure and lack of experience in the one and only time he’s had anything resembling executive experience in the real world (if you can call “responsible for handing out other people’s money” the real world).

____

But I regress…the housing story is just stupid. It’s the rich elitist Obama, who lives in a mansion that was purchased in a shady “scratch-my-back-and-I’ll-scratch-yours” deal with a guy who’s now in prison for political corruption — attacking another rich elitist who lives in an expensive house (or several).

The story just doesn’t mean anything and is nothing more than a smokes screen from a bunch of Obamaniacs who are getting desperate now that their guy is behind in the polls.

As Jon Henke writes:

Dear Media (and bloggers, too),

The “Homes” story is stupid.  It is contrived.  It is political hand-waving. They don’t really believe what they’re telling you.  Remember, in 2004, the Right thought it was fine to attack John Kerry’s numerous homes, and the Left feigned outrage that anybody would think that was a legitimate campaign issue.

Campaigns play you for rubes.  Stop playing along.

Some of you already know this, even if you can’t resist joining the Kabuki Dance.

I just can’t believe that after the Rezko story that Obama’s camp would really want to talk about real estate with McCain.

  1. I think that it’s funny, what B-HO did to himself.
This video came out fairly soon after B-HO’s self-inflicted ambush.

Previewing the message the campaign will seek to drive, a McCain spokesman said:

“In an attempt to make something stick, Barack Obama has re-aired his dirty laundry with convicted felon Tony Rezko that led to a highly questionable land deal. Rezko’s dirty dealings are well-documented and his relationship with Barack Obama goes back 20 years.”

I still fail to see why David Axelrod or B-HO are considered brilliant and intelligent. It certainly isn’t reflected in their actions, or lack thereof.

  2. You guys and your wild goose chases. The Limbaugh wing has been trying to throw Rezko and Ayers against the wall for over a year and that shit just wont stick, will it? Let’s dispense with this myth of McCain the Everyman. How many Presidents do you know that have a pre-nup?

John McCain’s released two years of tax returns today to little fanfare. We learn that he earned $405,000 in 2007. We learn that he’s giving his ex-wife $17,000 a year in alimony. What we don’t learn, though, is how much he’s getting from his current wife. That’s because the returns don’t include the assets of Cindy McCain, whose beer fortune is estimated at more than $100 million—a reminder that McCain would be the first president to have signed a prenuptial agreement.

You wingnuts have been in power too long. The record is replete now and you’ simplyre bouncing off each other’s talking points:

Good Morning America, October 5, 2004:

CHARLES GIBSON: In going, in going through the book, John Kerry. You refer to him as a gigolo, the male Anna Nicole Smith . . . . What does that achieve, Ann?

ANN COULTER: Well, okay, then I don’t want to hear him talk about a middle class tax cut when he has made his living living off rich women. I mean, it is simply a fact that he has married two heiresses. His specialty in life, I mean, if he has an economic plan, I think the one I’d like to hear about is how to snooker millionairesses into marrying me and living off them. I mean, that is not an, a, a trivial point.

  3. that shit just wont stick, will it?

Of course it will, it already has.

Obama certainly seems to surround himself with unsavory characters that he has no idea are unsavory. That’s really bad luck, isn’t it.

Of course, now the Obama campaign is crying like a great big ol’ baby and saying the McCain’s campaign isn’t playing fair. They want to sling mud and then hide their hands behind their backs and then cry when someone hits back at them.

Honestly, can anyone actually believe that Obama’s campaign even opened up the door to a housing debate to begin with? Rezko has been convicted and is awaiting sentencing in October. Its in the news ANYWAY and now Obama’s people just highlighted it for everybody.

Who’s running that campaign? A bunch of teenagers? Oh – well … adolescent democrats is kind of redundant, isn’t it.

Tony Rezko is Obama Housing Problem.

Obama’s Education Track record in Chicago.

Then, there is B-HO’s other housing problem.
Glass houses, stones, empty suits, etc.

  4. So irrelevent campaign issues finally come back to bite a Republican on the ass? Oh well- this how your side has played the game for 20 years.

  5. Of course it will, it already has.

Right. Which of these is the easiest for voters to digest?:

Obscure convicted Chicago racketeer holds small fundraiser for Obama 13 years ago.

John McCain can’t remember that he owns 12 homes .

And the hits, they just keep on coming for Maverick McSame…

The McCains increased their budget for household employees from $184,000 in 2006 to $273,000 in 2007, according to John McCain’s tax returns.

  6. The House? gaffe exposes two of McCain’s biggest vulnerabilities — 1) the contrast between his old soldier pseudo-mystique and the pampered life he’s lead for almost 40 years and 2) the age-related wobbliness which has his campaign aides keeping him largely off limits to the traveling press. These dovetail with his loose-cannon approach to critical foreign policy questions.

  7. Did it not come out that these homes are not owned by McCain but are part of a pre-nup and owned by Cindy? One of them is occupied by an aging relative and one by one of their kids.

So big deal that he married someone that happened to have money? What are you about, Pat, punishing success? Are you jealous because you aren’t??? He isn’t living off of anyone, Pat. The homes are Cindy’s. Many successful people OWN REAL ESTATE INVESTMENT PROPERTIES. It’s about business, markets, investments. Google it.

Don’t give me crap about Barack and Michelle’s loan deal, either. I was in mortgage banking for 26 years. You don’t buy a home under $300K sales price and have, conveniently, your friend purchase the parcel for an elevated price next door on the same day. AND. Get the money from someone else to do it. THAT raises big fat red flags for loan fraud. I’ve sent people to jail for it over that 26 years. It smells and all you have to do is follow the money. Go follow it and maybe you’ll pull your head out of your butt and figure this out. But, I doubt it.

  8. For Pat and Preston, y’all still don’t get it.
B-HO’s secretive past and his associates is how this election is being framed.
Whatever perceived vulnerabilities can be attributed to McCain, he has one enormous advantage. He.Is.Not.B-HO.
That’s the problem that B-HO will never be able to overcome.

  9. If I owned 7 or 8 properties that I lived in and had another dozen or so I rented out I would imagine I could remember the number of places I actually lived in- the clear intent of the question. You wouldn’t have thought it was a trick question.

These are stupid issues but combined with the idea that McCain has previously said his idea of ‘middle class’ are those that earn up to 5 million dollars in conjunction with policies that clearly favor those of us who earn that kind of money it becomes a problem for him.

  10. What’s so secretive?

  11. Preston: Listen. Closely. There was a pre-nupt agreement. The homes are. in. the. name. of. CINDY. MCCAIN. Do you understand??? Hmm. Maybe I can think of a more simple explanation. I’ll get back to you.

  12. Pam, don’t bother with Preston. It’s another of his little games. The housing issue is B-HO’s problem, not Mc’s.
As for what is so secretive, Preston, I’ve been posting about B-HO’s BS for almost a year. You can pretend it is all new to you, I’m not playing.
In the outside chance you didn’t read any of it, or have selective memory, then that’s on you.
The more the focus is on B-HO’s nefarious associations, the more people find him unacceptable. B-HO is coming into view quite clearly. As evidenced by the recent Zogby poll, with the one month decline in nearly every category of voter. And it isn’t even Labor Day yet.

  13. Hey, Obama baby.
    /henh

  14. Welly-welly-welly-well!
A Hillary supporter has filed a lawsuit against B-HO, concerning an aspect of his secretive past.
And she forced her way into the nominating process in Denver.
“Step into my parlor, said the spider to the fly.”

  15. There was a pre-nupt agreement. The homes are. in. the. name. of. CINDY. MCCAIN.

Then why did he say he owned four houses?

  16. HAH!
That didn’t take long, about three hours.

  17. Pam, No2, now ya’ll don’t go and ignore ole preston. I admit his lack of brightness is kind of frustrating at times. I mean he told me to ‘get a grip’ fer goodness sakes at the same time I was trying to figure out between his spelling and grammar challenges just what he has been trying to tell us. On the other hand, he does offer insight into the liberal ‘mind’ and if he was a little slower on the insult, me and him could probably have a good debate. Now lets talk about ‘jonny’. Sure I sock puppeted him with a couple of other names but he was just a pure hater and there is no debating hate and jealousy. POS still ain’t showed up for that beer I offered him. Of course, I was going by ‘ I Hate Euro Scum’ at the time and that isn’t too hospitable. Now ya’ll have a great Texas day. You to, Preston.
Robbie, I just love your blog, it is the most fun I have had in a long time………..

  18. Pam, No2, now ya’ll don’t go and ignore ole preston.

I suppose it’s because it’s an indefensible position- if the houses are indeed in Cindy’s name the answer is easy: John McCain should say that he does not own any houses.

  19. B-HO’s housing problem is certainly indefensible.
There appear to be no convicted felons involved in any of the McCain property purchases, or I’m sure B-HO’s adoring supporters would have mentioned it by now.
Maybe the real estate gurus Harry Reid or Chris Dodd should get involved and share their expertise.

  20. Then Luntz plays Obama’s ad attacking McCain on the “seven houses” issue. Nobody much likes it; the meters stay below 50 for both Republican and Democratic leaners. After that comes McCain’s response ad, the one featuring Tony Rezko. Republican meters shoot up to 80, while the Democratic meters climb slightly above 50. Asked later, people think Obama’s attack ad was good, but the Rezko response raised new questions. “For Barack to get money from someone else — and who knows where he got that money to get his house?” one woman asks. In general, says another woman, in McCain’s ads, “the issues were a little more clear.”

In Denver, Deep Doubts About Obama.
    /Henh.

  21. What are you about, Pat, punishing success?

    (insert ossified talking point here)

That’s right, we’re not supposed to criticize rich people becasue everyone wanst to be just like them! (in McCain’s case, that’s stupid rich – as in you’re so rich you stopped paying attention years ago)

The depths that wingnuts will go to defend their heroes in the elite ruling class are limitless.

  22. What?
I have never once defended the Kennedy’s.

  23. Top 10 wealthiest members of the house and senate (7 are dems)
    Jane Harman (D-Calif)
    2 Darrell Issa (R-Calif)
    3 John Kerry (D-Mass)
    4 Vernon Buchanan (R-Fla)
    5 Herb Kohl (D-Wis)
    6 Edward M. Kennedy (D-Mass)
    7 Jay Rockefeller (D-WVa)
    8 Robin Hayes (R-NC)
    9 Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif)
    10 Frank R. Lautenberg (D-NJ)

Most expensive places to live in the US: Cape Cod, Beverley Hills: 90% democrat.

    Billionaire Democrat: Warren Buffet.
    Billionaire: George Sorros.
    Sergey Brin, Democrat, Billionaire.
    Larry Page, Democrat, Billionaire
    Charles Koch, Democrat, Billionaire
    Kirk Kerkorian, Democrat, Billionaire
    Abigail Johnson, Democrat, Billionaire
    Ballmer, Steven, Democrat, Billionaire
    (bunch more)

The BS about the donks being the party of the average little guy, and the Pachs being the party of the rich is so weak, and easy to refute.

  24. Oh poor Republicans…

Do you realize how clownish you look picking out a dozen people from the 50 million people who vote Democratic and attempting to extrapolate from that?

Don’t make me link to the 2004 exit polling again.

  25. I don’t care what you link to you goof.
Any claims that the donks are the party for the poor and average Joe, is complete and utter bullshit. There are people of every economic category in each party.

  26. Here’s how the average tax bill could change in 2009 if either John McCain’s or Barack Obama’s tax proposals were fully in place.

    MCCAIN OBAMA
Income Avg. tax bill Avg. tax bill
    Over $2.9M -$269,364 +$701,885
    $603K and up -$45,361 +$115,974
    $227K-$603K -$7,871 +$12
    $161K-$227K -$4,380 -$2,789
    $112K-$161K -$2,614 -$2,204
    $66K-$112K -$1,009 -$1,290
    $38K-$66K -$319 -$1,042
    $19K-$38K -$113 -$892
    Under $19K -$19 -$567

It looks to me that if you make less than 112K you’re better off with Obama; if you’re in the top .1% of incomes you’re better off with McCain.

  27. As an addendum: this is, of course, a straw man:
There are people of every economic category in each party.

I never stated otherwise. People aren’t robots: they vote based on concerns outside of the size of their paycheck. I’ve repeatedly given you data that shows generally speaking both in political support and policy outcomes Democrats are the party of working Americans.

I could charitably chalk up your early opposition to ignorance. Continued squabbling is mere partisanship.

  28. It looks to me that if you make less than 112K you’re better off with Obama; if you’re in the top .1% of incomes you’re better off with McCain.

    Oh MY!
That’s some funny shit there, I don’t care who you are!
Preston, honestly, do you even read the things you link here? Only those between 112K and 227K are better off under B-HO’s plan, according to this *cough*CNN piece, and even then not by very much.
What about capital gains? I know B-HO wants to jack them up too, but I have no idea what Mc wants to do in that area.
It’s also been reported, and denied, that B-HO wants to raise the death tax back to it’s absurd levels.
You’ve demonstrated your love of high confiscation rates before Preston, it’s nothing new.
There should be no income tax at all, but if we can’t get rid of it, at least return it to the original rate of 1% of those earning more than $5,000 in 1913 dollars.
Below are the taxes we face each day, that didn’t exist one hundred years ago, when our nation was prosperous, with no national debt, the worlds largest middle class, and Mom’s stayed home to raise the kids.

  29. Democrats are the party of working Americans.

Complete and utter BullShit, and you know it.
Your charitable gesture is amusing, considering how ignorant you are, and that you are a sold out liberal ideologue.
