09.11.01 — Seven Years Ago

I will never surrender. I will never submit. I will never forget:

World Trade Center on Sept 11, 2001

That day changed me forever. Like most, I’ll never forget where I was and what I was doing that morning.

As Michelle Malkin notes, “Remembrance is worthless without resolve. Resolve is useless without action.”

And that’s what our troops are in Afghanistan and Iraq doing today. Taking the battle to our enemies.

And that’s why there is still only one choice for me in November, and the primary reason that I’ll be voting for Sen. John McCain to be our next President — simply because I trust him more to keep us safe and to punish those who would threaten our safety.

A friend and I were were talking last night about today’s anniversary, and he mentioned that he was thinking about calling in sick today so he could have the day off to commerate. We both wondered why and if 9/11 will become a National holiday.

We both think it should. Neither of us are too hopefull that it will — the Left simply won’t allow it to happen. We hope a President McCain would move to make it a National holiday, perhaps on the 10th anniversary. We don’t believe for a moment that it would happen under a President Obama.

I disagree with the idea of making 9/11 a holiday.

I think it should be ‘make an extra effort at work’ day. Or maybe a day where government offices stay open an extra couple of hours.

Most of the people murdered on 9/11 were working. Going about their business, doing the right thing.

Lets have a day where everyone works just a little harder to honor the 9/11 victims.

Robbie…June 6 is not even a holiday. Neither is December 7.

More Americans were killed on both those days. I’m not saying it’s right. I’m just saying we start with getting D-Day declared a holiday, then Pearl Harbor, then we start working our way to 9/11.

They all should be holidays. Of this I’m sure. But priorities, my friend. Priorities.

I agree with Mr. Howard. Holidays, regardless of what they are supposed to commemorate eventually turn into “a day off”, and the point of the holiday becomes lost.

Regarding Sen. McCain and the election: during the 2004 campaign, Dennis Miller said, “Right now my only criteria for Commander-in-Chief is the person most likely to pre-emptively kill terrorists. Everything else is gravy.” Or words to that effect.

I wouldn’t say that’s my only critera, but it’s really high up on my list.

Robbie, I take comfort in the fact that despite our differences, we can both find common ground in the fact that we are fiercely proud Americans. I know we can all reach across the aisle and stand together on the anniversary of this tragic day that changed this country and the world forever.

Despite what you might think of me, I consider myself a fairly moderate liberal and a sane citizen of the free world…so it should come as no surprise that nothing makes my blood boil more than hearing idiot, chickenshit, 9/11 “truthers” spewing their venomous, deceitful rhetoric. I am lucky: I have many friends and family who were in New York City on that day and nobody was injured or killed. But to the countless Americans who lost their lives or had loved ones taken from them…the suggestion that the Twin Towers collapsed because of anything other than Islamic Fundamentalists is the gravest insult I can imagine.

Never forget is right. I hope all of you and yours are having a safe and productive day.

[Editor --- Thanks, John. You under estimate my opinion of you, though. I think your a smart kid* who is passionate about your beliefs. And knowledgeable about the world around you.

I respect that, even if we disagree on the issue. And you're opinions and viewpoints are much appreciated and welcomed here. Good healthy debate is good for everybody.

*no offense by calling you a kid -- I think you're a college kid or at least college-aged --- and I tend to think of everybody of that age as "kids", even though I know they are not.]

Between boarding-up in preparation for that bastard Ike, I’ve been watching the History Channel and the many stories from 09.11.01.

I think a day of remembrance serves best.
I don’t think a holiday is appropriate, as it implies a celebration.
I would like to see more pressure exerted, to get the Lame Stream Media to show actual video footage of the attacks, the people jumping, and the towers coming down, instead of the silly excuses they make for not showing it. The media wants us to forget the emotions we experienced that day, and why the GWOT was necessary.

Well, I actually agree with Jim Howard on this.
You should do something ‘extra’ to remember those who perished.
In a funny way, you make 9/11 into a holiday and your country will lose ‘x’ amount of dollars through people not working and therefore the terrorists may see that as a tiny victory for them.
Work harder on 9/11. Make that extra buck and stick two fingers up to terrorism.
