Election 2008

Gov. Sarah Palin — A Star is Born

If you did not watch it last night, watch it now.

If you did watch it last night, watch it again. It’s better with each subsequent viewing.

Joe Biden gave his VP acceptance speech on August 27, 2008. A quick look back at Memeorandum as to what people on both sides of the political aisle were talking about the following morning shows that they weren’t talking about Joe Biden’s speech.

Contrast that with this morning, where all anybody is talking about — not just on blogs, not just on talk radio, and not just on the morning news shows, but people around the water cooler, people at my Crossfit class this morning — is Gov. Sarah Palin’s speech last night.

A speech for the ages. The birth of a new star in politics. I heard someone refer to her as the female Ronald Reagan.

I think that’s not too far off.

How great and how perfect a pick Sarah Palin is can be judged by the Liberal elitists and their Ivy league friends who are beside themselves finding a new way to smear and attack this women and her children.

Do you know why there’s no fury behind the Joe Biden pick? Yawn. Because nobody on our side cares…he drags the ticket down, and makes Obama out to be a liar about “a new kind of politics” and “going outside the Beltway”.

Yes. The Left is very, very afraid. And very worried. And they should be.

  1. As a woman, I have always felt confused about why women play identity politics. But I think I understand it now. I could not have been more proud of being a woman than watching Gov. Palin’s speech last night. And I couldn’t help but comment to my husband, while she was blasting and ridiculing Obama’s celebrity, that somewhere Hillary is watching and saying “You go, Girl!”

Seriously, I feel that with both Obama and Palin, we are seeing a changing of the political guard. I am serious when I say that both of these candidates are moving the US away from the tired old baby boomer generation, and that’s a good thing no matter which side of the political aisle you choose.

I do not agree with Obama’s politics, but I can see the value of him as a candidate. Let the next generation step up and slug it out.

  2. Well, from the tired old baby boomer generation

YOU GO SARAH GIRL ! You’re the daughter we’re glad we raised. (I would have been a child bride..lol).

  3. I’m considered a boomer, too, albeit I believe that 1959 is considered one of the last boomer years (what is the cutoff year?) gawd, I am getting old!

I have sons, one is 21 and one is turning 18, and the young women who are their peers, are amazing to me. Thanks to Title IX, they are athletes with so many choices. They are scholars. They have confidence. I really believe that the ‘victimhood’ of being a woman isn’t something they know, but something that needs to be taught to them. So I worry when these young women go off to college and are exposed to the dreaded “women’s studies” programs, that they will absorb some of that.

I do believe that Gov. Palin is the beginning of the next generation of women who do not see themselves as ‘victims’. At least I hope so.

  4. I really like a few of the jabs, paraphrased below:

“Some candidates use change to promote careers, McCain has used his career to promote change” – nice

“the American presidency is not supposed to be a journey of personal discovery” – he he… heavy punch to the Barry balls!

  5. I heard a newsguy at the convention on the radio. He said most of the media where in a hall way where it was set up so they could watch the speech. Every time Rudy or Palin landed a blow, there would be a roar. He said it was like going to a fight.

  6. I have to say I laughed my ass off. I hope she does as well in the debates.

Later, at the Obama household, Barack worries about the Palin/Biden debate and decides to give Hillary a call:

Obama to Hillary: “Uhh…Hillary…would you mind roll playing Sarah Palin to help Joe practice for the debate? That would mean so much to me.”

Hillary to Obama: “Well ya know, I..I’m going to be a little bit busy for the next four years, Barack. I’m so very sorry, but don’t hesitate to call me then.”

  7. She is absolutely wonderful.
    A real American woman!
Her authenticity is her most appealing attribute, of many.

  8. Gov. Sarah Palin — A Star is Born

And if they get in, a lot more unwanted babies will be born too.
    Jon Stewart just made a really good point, I thought I’d share;
He made the point that Palin said it was Bristol’s ‘choice’ to keep the baby – well she wouldn’t have had a choice under Palin’s law.
So what she is saying is “Look at my perfect family and my Daughter’s decision to keep her baby – vote me in and I’ll take that choice away from everyone else”.

  9. The speech appealed to the base, but it’s going to have net negative in the long run. I’ m not going to cut-and-paste my reaction to the speech here, and have a bunch of folks avoiding substantial dialog by flinging personal insults. But… if any of you are interested on an alternative opinion, you are welcome to read it HERE. Please feel free to leave feedback here, or on my blog.

  10. An Idiot Is Born: “Palin’s law”? What the hell is Palin’s law? Once again you demonstrate you have no knowledge of our laws and political system.

While the state can limit late term abortions, no one has the authority to stop anyone from obtaining an abortion. Even if Roe v. Wade were overturned, abortion could still not be completely outlawed. I know you think you were privy to the conversation between Bristol and her parents, but that is just more proof that you are delusional.

  11. Who cares what you think “Anonymous”….you just hate to see a woman be the next VP of the US.

  12. Uh, PalinforVP, I think you should re-read anon’s note, I think you misread it. If you want to read something dumb as shit, read jonny’s monologue to his own delusions. Jon Stewart? Huh? What? And I think ole jonjon understands our system perfectly, he writes like any Mid-Westerner, not like some eurolib. In fact, he writes just like our home-grown America-Haters, or liberals, or whatever you want to call them.

  13. Merge, I think the 10 seconds it would have taken to paste on this blog would have been a more honest approach. Really, I mean just plain honest. While I appreciate your directing traffic to your blog, a preview of your writing would have saved me a little time. Face it, Palin scares you.

  14. An Idiot Is Born: “Palin’s law”? What the hell is Palin’s law? Once again you demonstrate you have no knowledge of our laws and political system.

“I’m pro-life. I’ll do all I can to see every baby is created with a future and potential. The legislature should do all it can to protect human life.” S Palin

You don’t nee me to tell you tell you that Palin will do all she can to support legislation that makes it as hard as possible for women to have a choice regarding abortion. I understand she is on in favour of giving an choice where the babies mother is in danger during pregnancy. She get’s into her VP and this will be law.

That’s wierd, I’ve not been called JonJon since I was back in the US (over 25 years ago). Brings back some fond memories.

  16. Once again you demonstrate, in your unique functionally illiterate way, that you have absolutely no understanding how our political system and laws work.

  17. She kicked ass. Period. Energized the crowd. I was pretty high up but the volume was deafening. I wouldn’t mess with this woman.

  18. Pam, I didn’t know you were going to be there.
You’ll have to tell us more about the event.

  19. This matter isn’t settled until we hear from The Nuge.

It’s wrong to suggest that just because Gov. Palin is not a career D.C. politician that she lacks the experience and intelligence to lead the nation. She clearly has more executive management experience than Sen. Obama, who has zero experience at running anything. He’s not qualified to run an all-night donut shop, much less America.

    Now it’s settled!

OK Anon, I think I understand your mentality now.
Disagree with someone and abuse the f*ck out of them.
I’m guessing you have no other way of arguing a point other than personally criticising and insulting the one making the post.
I get the feel you’d have taken a swing at me by now if this was face to face?

I know of people like you. Waste of space. And a waste of my time.

  21. You make no points. You don’t know what you are talking about. You don’t know anything about our laws or government though you pretend that you do. As most people have come to realize, you are impossible to educate and it is a waste of our time to attempt to do so. However, you still deserve to be mocked and mocked you shall be…

And you are entitled to that opinion but nobody deserves to be mocked for putting forward an opinion. That’s your downfall.
You do it to everyone with a different view to yours and you make yourself look like a baby throwing their dummy out of the pram.

I’m open to new ideas and I appreciate that some on here have a vested interest in the topics Robbie sees fit to post about.
You do Robbie and yourself no favours by slamming those with a different view.

Tolerance is the key Anon, something you are unable to understand.

  23. Not only do you deserve to be mocked, you deserve to be mocked often.

How many times do I have to repeat it to you: You do not get to make up facts, label it an “opinion,” and not get called on it. Your “opinions” that you think everyone can’t live with out, are nothing but lies and half truths.

    Posted by Anonymous | September 5, 2008, 10:58 am
  24. Do it then – for goodness sake, pick me up on anything in that post thatI have classed as FACT that isn’t true?

I’ve asked you time and time again but you can’t/won’t back up your allegations.

You’re throwing kiddies toys from your pram in the hope one of them will hit. Your a bad shot. Be an adult.

  25. Actually, I have before. But since your only purpose is to push your own political views and arrogance, I refuse to waste my time on you anymore. My Lord, you can’t even tell the difference between fact and opinion. No one can have an intelligent debate with you.

Ha! I’m doing no more than you are and yet you take offense because I am talking from a different perspective? That’s probably as republican as you can get. They taught you well young Jedi!

  30. You’ll just go on with your lies and half truths? Never thought you would do anything else. Like I’ve pointed out, you lack the neurons for critical thinking, lack education, and lack a moral compass.

  31. And you throw out these insults with no basis.

You’re nothing than a venomous, bitter person.
