Yes, I believe he would

Stephen Green, the infamous Vodka Pundit, thinks that a President Obama, bolstered by a filibuster-proof Democatic majority in Congress, will impose the (un)Fairness Doctrine, and then apply it to blogs.

Mr. Green doesn’t plan on complying when they do:

If (when?) it happens, I’ll break that law. I will break it with all due malice and in full knowledge of the possible consequences. I’ll shout “Fire Obama!” in a crowded theater. And then, for the first time ever, I’ll ask for reader donations. Because I’ll going to need them, lots of them, to pay for the lawyers.

I’m on record here too, as believing that re-instating the Fairness Doctrine and applying it to blogs will be high on Obama’s agenda.

We’ve already seen his penchant for using the force and intimidation of the law to squash political dissent (or at least anti-Obama dissent). What makes you believe that he’s going to allow us rightwing agitators to badmouth him and spread vicious and harmful truths after he becomes President?

And like Stephen Green, if Mr. Obama tries does try to silence me — he’ll have as much luck trying to take away my first amendment rights as he will trying to strip away my second amendment rights (which he’ll try to do also).

I would fight and break Obama infringements on either/both of those rights.

I don’t see how it can even apply to you in that any jerkoff leftard can wander over here and leave any dumbass message they want. It’s the lefty blogs that censure and ban people.

I think it is likely that they will pass the legislation and the Obamination will sign it. I think though that the SCOTUS will knock it down. It flies smack in the face of the 1st amendment. When it was around before, we had a liberal court, that has changed now.

When the fairness doctrine was around before, there was very limited access to the airwaves. Now, anyone can publish onto the internet and their are cable channels. The fairness doctrine no longer has any usefulness. Again, no one is restricted from comments on most blogs or from starting their own. So, I don’t see how they can make an argument for it.

Please. Obama’s gonna have 8 years worth of Cheney’s scat to clean up so he’s not gonna have any time worry about a bunch of punk-ass right wing bloggers and the jumping-beans who occupy their echo-chambers.

Poor, patty! Still having nightmares about Cheney. Good. Try not dropping your own turds all over this blog.

The assumption that B-HO will get elected, is exceeded in hubris only by the assumption, that he would be reelected. Should, by some Cosmic Debris, he get elected, he would be rewarded with his poor performance with a another conservative revolution in Congress, in the first midterm election.
As for the alleged Fairness Doctrine, I believe that was strictly an FCC administrative policy, which could be returned by the direction of the FCC chairman. We know the donks don’t believe in fairness, unless it is masked as theft of wealth.

I dont see how it would apply to the internet. As far as I can tell, there is no real majority leaning right or left. At least thats my observation. But, as money becomes more and more available to the blog sites, things might change.

Lets just look at Air America for example and specifically some of the talk radio guys. I dont know of too many “Left Leaning” talk radio hosts that actually compete with the likes of conservative hosts Ingram, Limbaugh, Hannity and Savage (thats right, I said SAVAGE!). I would guess that the shows have advertisers, which feel like they make money from the advertisement. So they continue to support the show and everybody is happy, even the broadcasting station.

So why don’t the same rules apply to the Liberal-Progressive radio talk shows shows? I would guess that the people that listen to those shows dont react to advertisers. So, no money coming in, the advertisers go elsewhere, and the broadcasting station has to make a decision. Do they keep the show or dump it? A good business man would cancel the show and bring in something they can make a living with.

Now here is a core belief of the Socialist Left and one of the main reasons I am a Conservative. They feel the above situation is not FAIR. It just turns my stomach to think that there is actually a need for a governing body to moderate the air waves to insure a balanced representation of ideas. You can be sure of one thing. If the fairness doctrine is implemented, the short end of the stick goes to those with a Conservative point of view. I seriously doubt that any Left Wing Blog, TV or Radio Show will ever feel its presence.

I guess I could go into just how left wing biased our mainstream media is, but Robbie has already done a fine job of covering that…

[Editor --- Thanks for the kind words, HG. Looking forward to tailgating this weekend. Might need to go out and claim our spot on Wednesday...]

Well, if or until, the good folks at The People’s Cube continue to express themselves. Hysterically so, and they should know, as they had the misfortune of living behind the Iron Curtain much of their lives.

Again, anyone can start a blog or website on the internet. There is no restrictions due to limited frequencies. The FD was enacted in 1949 when television was new and was phased out in the 1980s . Until then, there was limited cable and only 3 networks, limited FM channels, etc.

What a lot of the complaints are about, is that Talk Radio has larger audiences. The reason they have large audience is because they are conservative. The minute they stop being conservative due to a fairness doctrine, the audience will plummet. Either the left wants to kill Talk Radio or they really think the audiences will listen to them. Fat chance.

It’s analogous to building up a business and then your competitor demanding space in your store. It just doesn’t work. They already have most of the spaces on the block. It’s not our fault that no one wants to shop there.

Got something you want to say?
