Texas Longhorns 45 — Oklahoma Land Thieves 35

Colt McCoy beast OU

This year’s Red River Shootout (or “Rivalry” if you’re afraid of the PC police) is one for the ages, and an instant classic.

#1 Oklahoma vs #5 Texas. And hardly anybody gave the Longhorns a chance.

But what their doubters didn’t realize was how much heart this team has — and how much of a difference new Defensive Coordinator Will Muschamp has made.

Sam Bradford will likely win the Heisman Trophy, and he’s a better QB. But Colt McCoy is a better football player. And that made all the difference in the world today.

I don’t think that Texas will be #1 in the new AP poll that comes out tomorrow — but they sure as hell better jump over Alabama (who is idle this week). Two weeks ago when Alabama beat a then #1 Georgia, they leapfrogged Texas in the polls, despite the fact that Texas destroyed their opponent that week (a 52-10 victory over Arkansas).

UPDATE — So I was wrong. With #1 Oklahoma, #3 Missouri, and #4 LSU all losing yesterday, Texas is the new #1 according to the latest AP poll.

Missouri dropped to #11, which takes away some of the luster from next week’s matchup here in Austin.

  2. It was an awesome game! My friends and I made a tombstone out of wood, sprayed it orange, and painted ‘RIP OU’ and staked it in his yard.

    It was a nice sight!
