Memeorandum is my favorite blog aggregator, and one of my favorite sites on all of the internet.
Effectively, Memeorandum is a snapshot of what the blogosphere — Right and Left — are talking about at any given moment.
The guys over at Waxy.org have made Memeorandum even more useful and informative by creating a plugin that colorizes Memeorandum on-the-fly. Left-leaning blogs are blue and right-leaning blogs are red, with darker colors representing strong biases.
It’s very interesting to see how most stories are entirely commented on/blogged about by one side or the other. It’s remarkable to watch one side of the blogosphere go completely dead-air silent on stories that are harmful to or fly in the face of their side’s ideology.
For instance, this story by Peter Baker at The Caucus about Obama picking Hillary Clinton to be his Sec. of State (despite the fact that she is Constitutionally barred from the office) — is being blogged about and shared almost exclusively by Liberal bloggers, as you can see by all of the blue shading:
Conservative bloggers (other than Michelle Malkin) just don’t seem to care all that much about the fact that Hillary is flying to Chicago to pretend to get along with Obama (whom you just know she really hates almost as much as Monica Lewinsky).
More interesting to me though is the major story of the weekend, the Mumbai bombings. Now that the ordeal is over and the investigations have started…now that we know more about who is responsible (Muslim terrorists) and what their motives were, the story and narrative has changed to more analysis:
These stories on Mumbai today are being covered almost entirely by the Right-o-sphere. Which I’m not nearly as interested in exploring as much as I am why the Left-o-sphere isn’t blogging about these stories.
My theory?
Because the mostly unhinged big name Lefty bloggers really aren’t all that outraged. And the smaller Lefty blogs take their talking points and marching orders directly from the big dogs.
The attackers are Muslim and carried out these attacks in the name of the death cult of Islam. And we all know how loath the Left is to criticize Islam for anything.
Easier to just not write anything than it is to tap dance around the fact that there is a relationship to Islam and terrorism.
Also, the Mumbai attacks fly in the face of the Left’s narrative that if we only elected Barack Obama, then the whole world would love us and everybody would be all Kumbaya. Instead, we see Islamic terrorist targeting Westerners and Jews despite the fact the the Obamassiah is about to take office.
Another angle I think keeping the Lefties from exploring this much more is the realization that a well armed populace would be best measure against these kinds of attacks.
And the anti-gun, anti-second amendment Left doesn’t want to acknowledge that either, lest more American’s are “scared” into running out and buying a handgun (if they can find one in the recent gun buying frenzy) in the off-chance that these types of attacks spread to their neighborhood malls, sports stadiums, or places of worship.

In one day more U.S. citizens will die in motor vehicle accidents that all of the people that died in these attacks in India.
In the seven years since 9/11, more than 300,000 United States citizens have died on U.S. roads . That’s the equivalent of the population of Pittsburgh, or Cincinnati, or Anchorage – totally wiped out in seven years.
Where’s the outrage here? Why doesn’t anyone talk about that?
[Editor --- What the fuck are you talking about? I've read some ignorant shit today...but this is the most ignorant tripe I've read all day.]
Memorandum is super, never checked it out before today- thanks. Good insight on your part on what gets left out of blogging. Gotta admit also, never thought about the stats on car accidents-loved your comment back:)
Editor – does that mean you’re at a loss for an answer?
Did you ever wonder what the “readability” of your blog is? Or what level of education is required to be able to understand your writing?
Soooo…that’s what lefty blogs are following?
The number of vehicle accidents/injuries/fatalities?
Hunh…little wonder I never read them, there are already a number of official agencies that cover that.
As for Mumbai, the left doesn’t want to talk about that, it would mean that the GWOT is valid. Just like the left doesn’t want the images of the Twin Towers shown, or of those victims leaping to their deaths. It brings forth emotions that detract from their childish view, that we can all get along, if we just talk.
Yay – terrorism resurrects the Zombies of the American right wing, and just in time! Long live jihad!
I find all of this quite amusing. Obama has given some comfort to those of us on the right who feared he wasn’t up to the job on national security matters and instilled fear in those on the left who thought he would end all wars and terrorism with good speeches alone. So far so good, President-Elect.
One characteristic of the Democrats is that they tend to eat their own if they aren’t happy. Right now they are only quietly seething, but that won’t last if Obama turns out to be more hawkish than they want . It will be interesting to see how the next 4 years go.
Despite the traditional media’s anglo-centric portrayal of this attack, a very small percentage of those targeted and killed were westerners, who were apparently being targeted to specifically attract western media coverage. How many Americans died when these guys started walking through the streets of Mumbai shooting at random? None. The western media played right into these guys’ hands.
Somedays you guys are going to wake up and realize that America is no longer the center of the known universe.
Actually, the NEWS of Mumbai has been covered by the MSM and blogs fairly well. There are plenty of issues/events covered or not covered by both sides to support their agendas. I think you’re confusing covering an event versus beating one to death if it supports your POV.
You could have made the same point about Rev Wright or Bill Ayers.
The unhinged right (is there any other?) kept bloviating about Rev Wright or Bill Ayers long after they were old news and the rest of the blogs/MSM moved on to other issues.
I doubt the right wing blogs and Fox will cover the upcoming Torture Tribunals or abuses of power investigations the same as the left wing blogs or MSM either.
Mumbai is a big issue, but not the only one.
