Who Will be the Next Senate Minority Leader?

John Hawkins — a conservative blogger who runs Conservative Grapevine and Right Wing News — has written an open letter to Senate Republicans, which is posted at the DC Examiner.

The letter is telling them to be very careful of who they elect as their Senate Minority Leader. And, more specifically, not to re-elect Mitch McConnell to the position:

In 2006 you settled on Mitch McConnell as your leader and quite frankly, the Republicans in the Senate and across the country have very little to show for that decision. We’re down six seats in the Senate — and they’re still counting.

Moreover, Mitch McConnell, who supported the Bridge to Nowhere twice, who led you into a disastrous fight on illegal immigration, and who did little to strike back against the Democrats who were slandering the GOP on an almost daily basis, actually campaigned on bringing home pork to Kentucky.

I agree with John and loan my voice and support in opposing not only Mitch McConnell, but any other big-government, pork-loving Republican. Which there are far too many of in Congress right now.

I’d be curious to know who Hawkins would suggest or support for the position.

My choice? Easy — Senator Jim DeMint of South Carolina. I don’t care that he’s one of the newest Senators in Congress. He’s exactly the type of Senator we need more of, and his selection would send a strong message to the conservative base.

  1. Robbie, I would also nominate Jeb Hensarling. He is on top of everything, as is DeMint. And while I like McConnell, he has to go. We need new blood and McConnell represents the very same “go along to git along” mindset that has cost us two elections.
