John Hawkins at Right Wing News has a very good and very plausable theory as to what’s really going on between Blagojevich, Emanual, and Obama:
Rod Blagojevich was peddling Obama’s Senate seat and trying to get paid. He discussed it with Rahm Emanuel, who then went back and talked it over with Obama. That makes perfect sense, right? Obama was obviously interested in who was going to fill his seat and if Emanuel discussed it with Blagojevich, of course he would have told his boss all the details.
So, Obama finds out Blagojevich is looking for a bribe to fill his Senate seat. He decides not to play ball, but also doesn’t warn the FBI because he doesn’t want to get involved, cheese off his allies in Illinois, create a distraction, etc., etc.
Then, the FBI swoops down on Blagojevich and the press comes to Obama. Obama, being Obama, doesn’t think very quickly on his feet and is used to the press covering up for him when he lies. So, he issues a blanket denial and hopes the whole thing quickly goes away.
Unfortunately for him, the fact that his story smells and that there are tapes that could prove he’s lying peaks interest. The story doesn’t go away. To the contrary, it picks up steam.
Then, it comes out that Emanuel & Blagojevich’s aides talked about the seat and it’s on tape.
Now, we have a real pickle for Obama.

Holy Crap, Batman! What a way to start out an administration. Even Slick Willie managed to be inaugruated before the scandals started flying. Now today I read how there is an investigation into Bill Richardson’s campaign funds taking kick backs from a company that was awarded millions in contracts (don’t expect to see anything about it in the NYSlimes).
Anyone who thinks that Obama climbed the political ladder in Illinois faster than the speed of Rocket Man without getting dirt on his shiny shoes is dumber than a box of rock. As I said before; you don’t become a major player in Illinois without being a player.
And why isn’t the media looking into the background of Valerie Jarrett, Obama’s choice? She is the one who worked for the Daley city hall, got little Michelle a cushy job with the Daley administration and had the power to recommend Michelle for the oh, so nice job at the U of C Medical Center. Also, she was heavily invested in slum housing, a.k.a. Tony Rezko.
I am beginning to think that every reporter in America has submitted to a lobotomy.

It appears the investigation was curtailed, and the arrest made, because the ChiTribune published a story about the Feds investigating Blago. This after they had agreed not to go with the story, since back in Oct. When the Tribs story came out, Blago started canceling things, and went cryptic on some.

Call me a pessimist if you will, but here’s my prediction as to what will happen: Nothing At All. At least, not to Obama.
Blagojevich may (possibly) be impeached, and he may (possibly) do some time.
But nothing will happen to Obama or to Emmanuel.
Right now, there is no hard evidence of any wrong-doing by Obama or by his staff (regarding this issue, anyway). The article mentioned above only says that Emmanuel gave Blagojevich’s staff a list of names, and that no “quid pro quo” arrangements were discussed (on the tape). That’s not against the law, it’s just politics as usual , both for Washington, and for Chicago.
But even if some hard evidence against the God of Hope and Change were to surface, it would all be swept under the rug, just like everything else has been.
