2nd Amendment

Why We Shouldn’t Believe Obama’s Latest Lie About the Second Amendment

Gun and ammo sales have sky rocketed 49% since Obama was elected.

It’s not coincidental — it’s a direct cause and effect.

But all those guns in all of those law abiding citizens hands makes Obama and his minions nervous. And now Obama wants Americans to disregard their second amendment rights and to “slow down” on buying all those extra guns.

“I believe in common-sense gun safety laws, and I believe in the second amendment,” Obama said at a news conference. “Lawful gun owners have nothing to fear. I said that throughout the campaign. I haven’t indicated anything different during the transition. I think people can take me at my word.”

Except for one thing, Barry — we can’t take you at your word, because your actions have consistently belied your latest lie.

Besides, the moment your government starts telling you NOT to stock up on guns on ammo is precisely the best time to do exactly that. The second amendment is not just about hunting, protecting your home and property, and a little sport shooting. The second amendment is mostly about being able to take arms against a government gone bad.

National Rifle Association spokesman Andrew Arulanandam on Obama’s anti-second amendment record:

Prior to his campaign for president, his record as a state legislator and as a U.S. Senator shows he voted for the most stringent forms of gun control, the most Draconian legislation, gun bans, ammunition bans and even an increase in federal excise taxes up to 500 percent for every gun and firearm sold.

But Barry says to trust him now — you now, like he told us to trust him on public funding of his campaign. And we all saw how quickly he lied about that

Besides, I still remember when Barry said:

Obama said he believes in the Second Amendment, but that there is plenty of room for added gun regulations. “There is an individual right to bear arms, but it’s subject to commonsense regulation,” he said.

Uh huh. Except that it’s Barry’s “common sense” that will be imposed and it’s Barry’s “common sense” that scares gun owners. To Barry, it’s common sense that nobody should be allowed to own a semi-automatic weapon.

Here’s a good list of fun facts from the NRA in regards to why we should NOT trust Barry when it comes to protecting our second amendment rights:

FACT: Barack Obama opposes four of the five Supreme Court justices who affirmed an individual right to keep and bear arms. He voted against the confirmation of Alito and Roberts and he has stated he would not have appointed Thomas or Scalia.

FACT: Barack Obama voted for an Illinois State Senate bill to ban and confiscate “assault weapons,” but the bill was so poorly crafted, it would have also banned most semi-auto and single and double barrel shotguns commonly used by sportsmen.

FACT: Barack Obama voted to allow reckless lawsuits designed to bankrupt the firearms industry.

FACT: Barack Obama wants to re-impose the failed and discredited Clinton Gun Ban.

FACT: Barack Obama voted to ban almost all rifle ammunition commonly used for hunting and sport shooting.

FACT: Barack Obama has endorsed a 500% increase in the federal excise tax on firearms and ammunition.

FACT: Barack Obama has endorsed a complete ban on handgun ownership.

FACT: Barack Obama supports local gun bans in Chicago, Washington, D.C., and other cities. (Curt-But once ban was overturned he flip-flopped)

FACT: Barack Obama voted to uphold local gun bans and the criminal prosecution of people
who use firearms in self-defense.

FACT: Barack Obama supports gun owner licensing and gun registration.

FACT: Barack Obama refused to sign a friend-of-the-court Brief in support of individual Second Amendment rights in the Heller case.

FACT: Barack Obama opposes Right to Carry laws.

FACT: Barack Obama was a member of the Board of Directors of the Joyce Foundation, the leading source of funds for anti-gun organizations and “research.”

FACT: Barack Obama supported a proposal to ban gun stores within 5 miles of a school or park, which would eliminate almost every gun store in America.

FACT: Barack Obama voted not to notify gun owners when the state of Illinois did records searches on them.

FACT: Barack Obama voted against a measure to lower the Firearms Owners Identification card age minimum from 21 to 18, a measure designed to assist young people in the military.

FACT: Barack Obama favors a ban on standard capacity magazines.

FACT: Barack Obama supports mandatory micro-stamping.

FACT: Barack Obama supports mandatory waiting periods.

FACT: Barack Obama supports repeal of the Tiahrt Amendment, which prohibits information on gun traces collected by the BATFE from being used in reckless lawsuits against firearm dealers and manufacturers.

FACT: Barack Obama supports one-gun-a-month handgun purchase restrictions.

FACT: Barack Obama supports a ban on inexpensive handguns.

FACT: Barack Obama supports a ban on the resale of police issued firearms, even if the money is going to police departments for replacement equipment.

FACT: Barack Obama supports mandatory firearm training requirements for all gun owners and a ban on gun ownership for persons under the age of 21.

  1. Chill out, Chicken Little, your guns are safe. Now, as to your cushy taxpayer-funded job in the bloated defense industry, that’s another matter.

  2. Pat — I’ve made a conscious decision regarding you. If ever you are in the position to need to be defended (using force) from anything — a mugger, a pissed off Jihadist (is there any other kind), a rogue government, a rabid troop of girl scouts…anything.

I won’t defend you. I would watch you die a smoldering, bloody death before I would unholster my gun to protect or defend you. It’s what you would want, after all.

  3. Thanks, but I’ve covered that area pretty well all by myself for 46 years without the need for armed civilian assistance.

Interesting how you think some citizens deserve protection more than others. It’s torn from the same page of the book that says some citizens are more equal than others. Good to see you’re carrying on the tradition.

  4. Robbie, your emphasis on the phrase common sense, is the key.
When it comes to liberals, and that phrase, it is a code word. Which we all know is what libs dread most about conservatives. With liberals, their sense is nonsense, and common is anything but.
The examples you listed from the NRA site are a long list of reasons why he can’t be trusted on this issue, and from a short political career.
With the dinguses controlling Congress, B-HO would rubber stamp any anti-gun legislation they sent to his desk, he wouldn’t have to propose anything, and could weasel and double-speak about his alleged common sense, and support for our God given rights.
That so many Americans are purchasing guns and ammo, many for the first time, is a much more reliable indicator of how trusted his word is, than anything that comes from his lying cake-hole.
Now, with Rep. “Nostrilitis” Waxman in charge of the Commerce committee, this absurd piece of legislation might go national, instead of state to state. Be sure to click on the sample legislation, for details. Would I comply with such a law? Hell no! I do not acknowledge any act of government that makes my guaranteed rights null and void. With this abomination, and many others, as an example, there is no doubt that the leftists in this country are interested in totalitarian control.

‘‘I ask, sir, what is the militia? It is the whole people, except for a few public officials.’’
‘‘To disarm the people is the best and most effectual way to enslave them.’’

  5. Carried a copy of the Constitution since 1987, its bicentennial, to show those idiots who, though they may have taken an oath “to support, protect and defend it,” have never read it, much less understand the original intent of those folks who codified blacks as property, to include that enlightened owner of over 200 slaves, Virginian George Mason.
It says “a well REGULATED militia.”
What part of REGULATED do you not understand?
We are a nation of laws, not men.
You cowboys don’t get to pick and choose which laws you obey.

  6. There is a tiny bit of humor here.
Because of his F rating with the NRA and his statements about firearms….Obama has Singlehandedly stimulated a segment of the economy……Firearm Sales !

  7. The gun addicts I know are always looking for an excuse to buy another gun.
This was just the excuse they needed.
I can’t justify the expense at this time.

  8. Your reading of the Constitution is flawed, incomplete, and at odds with the interpretation of the SCOTUS.

You are omitting the most pertinent and relevant part of the second amendment:

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

And where you are wrong is that very important comma between the well regulated militia and “the people”.

Which are two entirely different entities. The “well regulated” part of the second amendment applies to the militia.

The “shall not be infringed” applies to “the people”. What part of that do you not understand?

What part of “individual right” do you not understand? Because that’s what the SCOTUS ruled in Heller vs. D.C.

    _________

As for us “cowboys” deciding which parts of our laws (i.e., the Constitution) we choose to follow, what say you to your boy Obama ignoring the enoulment clause of the Constitution to select Hillary Clinton, who is Constitutionally prohibited from holding that office?

What? I’m sorry, I can’t hear you chocking on your own hypocrisy.

  9. I believe individuals should be legally allowed to carry guns too, but the Court did not rule on the absolute right to bear arms in the Heller case. If the second amendment was as clearly applicable as you think it is, it wouldn’t have taken 230 years and an arch-conservative majority for SCOTUS to grant a writ to a case on that point. The Court wrote, “Although we do not undertake an exhaustive historical analysis today of the full scope of the Second Amendment, nothing in our opinion should be taken to cast doubt on longstanding prohibitions on the possession of firearms by felons and the mentally ill, or laws forbidding the carrying of firearms in sensitive places such as schools and government buildings, or laws imposing conditions and qualifications on the commercial sale of arms.”

Where does it say in the 2nd amendment that only certain citizens enjoy the right to bear arms in authorized areas?

Heller established the right of citizens to possess sidearms and rifles, that’s about it. Aside from the overturning of the DC law and applying it to the States, the Court still has not settled the central argument (absolute right,) as evidenced by the open door left to the lower courts by Heller.

  10. librlmrin,
What part of militia do you understand?
You’ve already demonstrated your lack of understanding of the Constitution, so give us your version of what a militia is.
I wait with great anticipation your distorted definition.
Also, your being a librl, and supporting the rule of law, must give you many moments of dismay, with your lefty comrades.
