My friend Kathleen at Right Wing Sparkle has just made herself more powerful and less vulnerable as she just (proudly) purchased her first handgun (a hammerless .38 Special revolver):
And who is to blame for her decision to become an armed citizen?
That’s right…Obama:
See what Obama has done? He has taken a pro-gun control Republican who never liked guns at all and made me a gun owner, gun rights, and gun carrying anti-gun control chick.
She plans on taking her CHL class in January.

haaaa today I was at Bass Pro handling a 38 special as well. It was so lightweight I couldn’t believe it. There were too many people around for me to concentrate and make a decision so I didn’t buy any. Think I’ll go to the Bullet Hole this week. My son-in-law saw a Bersa 380 he thought I should look at as well at Cabellas but Bass Pro didn’t have any of those. I also want to look at the Taurus models.
Anyhow, I have to tell you a funny story. I’m going to Chicago (burb) over New Years and my nephew wants to take me and his mom (my sis) to a shooting range while we are there but he said I need to get a FOIC card. He says we can’t even go to the shooting range without one. So, I ask the guy at Bass Pro what that is and he says, “I don’t know what he’s talking about but forget it in Illinois, it’s a communist state.” lol Ya know, at that moment I was glad I live in a redneck state. So, I looked up on line the FOIC card and this is some kind of card you need in order to even handle a gun…mind you, you can’t even hold an unloaded gun at Bass Pro or Cabellas or anywhere else in Illinois without one of those cards and you sure can’t go to a shooting range without one so I guess I am SOL as far as the shooting range excursion is concerned.
Another good example of the hard-wired fear that conservatives have, or as neurophysiologists call it, “fraidy cats”.
How do you guys ever sleep?
Conservatives thrive off fear, that is the only reason Bush won re-election. You neocons with your guns, why is America the only country in the entire world that thinks the answer to the gun violence problem is to have more guns.
Dianne, dang!
Dude is right, Illinois is a Communist state.
As for the .380 as an effective defense round, it is not. I also don’t have much respect for the Bersa brand. If you want to go with a semi-auto, you must train-train-train, and then when you think you have it all down, train some more. Revolvers, on the other hand, don’t require as much training, as there are no controls or magazines to manipulate. Only your finger and your mind.
Oh, and also, if you purchase your guns at a gun show, you will save ten to twenty percent, over a retail outlet, like Bass Pro or Cabela.
Seriously!
I see two leftards had to chime in with their nonsense.
You see, leftards, conservatives believe in self-reliance and freedom.
Self-defense is a God given right, and our freedom to bear arms is a Constitutionally guaranteed right. We will protect our families, property, and ourselves.
Leftards, on the other hand, believe two things, either alternately, or combined; that someone else should protect them, and/or they are such nice people no one would ever want to hurt them, so they don’t need a weapon or how to use it. Y’all can live with those two lies, and be wusses, it is what defines you.
Dear “left by No2rednecks”, so very right you are. Hey, for extra money this Christmas season I am making these great yard signs for all of my friends that feel like you do about guns. I am taking orders, not to pricey, you could order 1 for yourself and extras for friends and family. The yard sign is your standard “yard sign” size and reads,
” To Whom It May Concern: The occupants of this house DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANACES believe in having a GUN in this house. This house is GUN FREE!!”
Please reply, you would be my first order. I hope that those on my gift list, really enjoy them and display them year round. I am sure that they will attract all kinds of new friends to their collective properties.
I would put one in my yard, but I already have a sign at the front door that reads, ” Welcome. Enter with peace in your heart or leave with lead in your ass.” It has hearts and flowers on it too.
Please reply, and spread the wealth. I could use the money. peace out. tp
Wish you were here to help me with this No2, but thanks for the info. I will definitely take what you said to heart. If you’re headed up to Leavenworth anytime soon, please get in touch. Robbie has my e-mail addy.

Hey genius racist, The English actually discuss banning knives. They really do. You take away enough, ya got nothing left. I am proud to be free.
Dianne, I’ll help as I can, but I won’t be in your area in the foreseeable future, which is a shame. One of my old USAF buds lives in Heavenworth. He’s a retired officer from the BoP. I could ask him if he and his bride would be able to assist, if you like. We are both enthusisast, and both shot competitively in service matches.
I need to get up there for a visit, it’s been since the NRA Convention in KC, in 2000, since I’ve been.
So you will know, according to the FBI, the average number or rounds fired in any shooting legal or illegal, is about 3 rounds. A semi-auto is great for some, but for most it is the high capacity of rounds. If you aren’t prepared to train sufficiently so you will know how to clear a malfunction, which will always happen, and usually when you need the gun the most, then a revolver is the best approach. You will seldom, if ever, need to reload in a defensive situation. Just remember to practice double-taps, not single shots. It is more lethally effective, and will help you keep count of how many rounds you have fired. I prefer a .357Mag revolver, as you can also fire .38Special ammo in it. I load the first three chambers with .38 ammo, and the last three with .357Mag. If the first three rounds don’t get the job done, I have more serious problems than hearing loss, to contend with.
Only look at quality manufactured firearms, put them in your hand, and see if they feel right. If they don’t have the ergonomics for your particular hand, they will never feel right. I don’t recommend a revolver with a barrel length in excess of four inches, and shorter is not a problem.
Scroll down for the gun shows in your area, for Kansas and Missouri.
Hey tlp, here’s your sign!
love it.
hey tlp: A good marketing point would be make a couple up and send to washington.
Well yeah, but I ain’t looking for no bail out. -Sides, the folks in W-town would just take the credit and then charge everyone else for it. You know, bout $12,000,000,000,0000 per sign.gotta make a livin. I figure word of mouth, what with all those peeps that I am SURE are gonna stick one in their own dirt, ya know,Pat , DiNo, No2rednecks, etc….etc… chirp..chirp….waiting. waiting .silence in this case is not always the gold. oh well,
No2Liberals:
Your tips for purchasing a gun for a first-timer are very helpful. Since you recommend shopping at gun shows, do you know of any upcoming in the Dallas area?
Also, what brands of firearms would you say meet the criterion of being “quality manufactured”? I believe I will focus on getting a revolver rather than a semi-automatic.
Thanks for any more tips you may have.
Tracy, we just had one two weekends ago at Market Hall, my favorite, and they will return the first weekend in Jan.
There are two groups that put on gun shows, just enter Dallas gun shows into a search engine, and pull them up. There will probably be another one at the Big Town exhibit hall, before Christmas. Sorry, am pressed for time right now, or would look it up for you.
When I say quality manufacturer, Smith & Wesson, Taurus, and Ruger spring to mind, but there are a few others. Go to their websites and click around, and maybe make some cheat sheets on models and prices, to take with you when you go shopping. When a manufacturer shows a msrp, of say, $499.99, you can generally buy it for under $400 at a gun show. The reason being, at a show, they will get more traffic in a weekend, than they will in their retail outlet in months.
You can’t go wrong with a revolver, for personal defense. For law enforcement or combat, though, you need a semi-auto, as reloads are so much quicker.
Oh, and stay away from the exotic metal revolvers, such as the scandium or titanium models. You do save some weight, but it adds a lot of cost, and there have been some reported problems with the metals failing with heavy use. Go with good old steel, or even better stainless steel.
Thanks for the tips — especially regarding the brand names and suggestion of steel.
Looks like there will be a show December 27 & 28 in Ft. Worth (High Caliber Show). The Market Hall show will be January 3 and 4 (Dallas Arms Collectors). I’ll definitely take your advice and prepare a cheatsheet before attending.
Tracy
Tracy, I’ve been to the Ft. Worth gun shows, both at Will Rogers and the convention center, and they are excellent shows. Most times they have a high dollar door prize drawing, but I don’t know about this time.
