Drunk-driving, cocaine snorting, titty-bar loving Travis Hanson

Our police chief, Art Acevedo, periodically likes to go out on patrol — you know…like a cop. Which is pretty cool. And his super-police chief powers helped him arrest 28-year old Travis Scott Hanson on Friday night.

Austin’s police chief arrested an alleged drunk driver and put him in jail. According to court affidavits, Chief Art Acevedo pulled over Travis Scott Hanson, 28, in the parking lot of the Expose Club on South Congress Avenue Friday January 23.

Initially, Acevedo says he saw Hanson leave the club’s parking lot and turn onto South Congress, but then Hanson quickly pulled back into the lot.

Chief Acevedo followed him. According to the affidavit, Hanson told Chief Acevedo he turned back into the lot because he “realized that he was drunk.” He refused a field sobriety test, but admitted to drinking at least four glasses of vodka.

When officers patted him down they found a small bag of cocaine.

Hanson is in the Travis County jail on $4,000 bond. APD says he has two prior DWI convictions from 1997 and 1998, each in Flagstaff, AZ.

It sounds like Mr. Hanson pulled out of the nudie bar, got part way down the street, saw the Police car, knew he was 1) drunk, and 2) carrying a baggie of cocaine, and decided to turn around and head back to where he came from.

Sounds like Mr. Hanson probably needs to spend a little time behind bars.

As for Chief Acevedo — good job Chief. I won’t even ask what you were doing in the parking lot of Expose.

  1. His third DUI…some people are just ate with the dumb-ass, and will never learn.
BTW, I know what the Chief was doing there, looking for his next BFF, Mr. Hanson.

  2. I think I’ve seen that guy somewhere before.

  3. I’d bet the percentage of men leaving topless bars intoxicated is not any different from men leaving a regular bar.

In fact, I sometimes wonder why the police don’t just hang out near any bar to catch drunk drivers.
They have a denial attitude that they will Never be caught.
I have no sympathy for anyone getting a DUI.

Sorry, but I tend to have a case of the A*s regarding this since my brother was killed instantly by a drunk driver in 2003. (altho’ that guy had just left a party at a house, not a bar)

Your Chief was just trolling in a likely place to stop DUI’s.
