For me, it was a simple fact of recognizing that without President-elect Obama’s frightening consumers into action, the firearms industry might be suffering the same sort of business slumps that have befallen the automotive and housing industries.
It’s credit where credit is due. Mr. Obama has consistently voted against individual rights to firearms, appointed a re-tread Clinton administration full of gun banners, and made it plain to anti-gun groups that despite what he might say to the contrary, he’s on their side. That history, along with the unquestioned support of anti-gun organizations has spooked consumers into a buying frenzy for firearms that could be outlawed in another Assault Weapons Ban.
Manufacturers are months behind on orders for semi-automatic pistols, AR-style rifles, and anything with so-called ‘high-capacity magazines, buyers we’ve surveyed across the country seem to have a single explanation for their rush to purchase firearms – Obama.

This has been addressed on this blog in this post, and in numerous comments. Some liberal commenters have tried to dispel the concerns of our citizens by claiming those buying guns are the same old “gun nuts…rednecks…conspiracy theorists” that have always bought guns and ammo. The volume of sales alone, prove those stereotypes to be false, that there are many citizens that are fully aware of not only B-HO’s support of gun grabber groups, but gun grabber politicians, as well. His Congressman from Chicago, that crime ridden city, which had more murders last year(’08), than troops who were killed in all of Iraq, has proposed one of the most draconian gun laws of all time. The terrorist supporting AG nominee wants a permanent Assault Weapon ban. In fact, at B-HO’s website, it is clear as it can be, that his alleged “support” for the Second Amendment is as nefarious an interpretation as one can find:

Obama and Biden would repeal the Tiahrt Amendment, which restricts the ability of local law enforcement to access important gun trace information, and give police officers across the nation the tools they need to solve gun crimes and fight the illegal arms trade. Obama and Biden also favor commonsense(?from those two?) measures that respect the Second Amendment rights of gun owners, while keeping guns away from children and from criminals. They support closing the gun show loophole and making guns in this country childproof. They also support making the expired federal Assault Weapons Ban permanent.

This is where the “Brady Bunch” rear their pointy little heads again. They have proposed legislation that would seem to be ideal for a radical Marxist President like B-HO.
One of the lowest of highlights, besides a detailed list of guns to be banned, is this one:
Under the proposal, the U.S. Attorney General can add any “semiautomatic rifle or shotgun originally designed for military or law enforcement use, or a firearm based on the design of such a firearm, that is not particularly suitable for sporting purposes, as determined by the Attorney General.” Note that Obama’s pick for this office (Eric Holder, confirmation hearing set for Jan. 15) wrote a brief in the Heller case supporting the position that you have no right to have a working firearm in your own home.
In making this determination, the bill says, “there shall be a rebuttable presumption that a firearm procured for use by the United States military or any federal law enforcement agency is not particularly suitable for sporting purposes, and a firearm shall not be determined to be particularly suitable for sporting purposes solely because the firearm is suitable for use in a sporting event.”
In plain English this means that ANY firearm ever obtained by federal officers or the military is not suitable for the public.
That presumption can be challenged only by suing the federal government over each firearm it decides to ban, in a court it runs with a judge it pays. This virtually dismisses the principles of the Second Amendment.
These power mad politicians aren’t interested in the general welfare or safety of the average American, as long as enough of them are able to pay excessive taxes, or cash government checks, and vote to keep them in power.
That Outdoor Wire made this person their Salesman Of The Year, is only just. No one person could have stimulated growth in this industry, during tough economic times, proving all this country needs is motivation, not government bail-outs, to be productive. Americans value their freedom and liberty, more than they value the winner of the medias popularity contest winner for President.
Many times, since the ’94 Republican Revolution, the Demonrats have wrung their hands, and were heard to mutter, over and over, that the gun control issue was a losing battle for them.
They were right then, but with their stronger desire for total power overruling their memories, they don’t realize they would still be right today.
I wish them the worst, in their efforts to disarm America, and one example of why I don’t want this President to be successful. His success will doom this great nation.

It’s official Texas is the biggest shithole in America.
If you haven’t been paying attention, or your head has been stuck in the sand for the last 6 years, or you’ve been too busy working making ends meet and keeping your kids in school, then you probably haven’t notice that Texas is now the worst place to live in the United States.
The report titled “Texas on the Brink” by State Senator Eliot Shapleigh paints a bleak picture of Texas in almost every category used to rate places to raise a family. These categories include the environment, health care, womens issues, education, and more. And the ratings are a result of the Republican leadership of the state over the last 6 years.

Add to this list that Texas has the highest rates for home insurance, 25% higher than 2nd place Louisiana. (See The Most Expensive States To Insure Your Home 2005 by Forbes Magazine.) Deregulation of electricity has resulted in skyrocketing electricity costs instead of more competition that would reduce our rates, as promised. College education costs have soared by an average of 39% in just one short year once again as a result of deregulation.
For those with their heads still in the sand, do yourself a favor and look at your bills, your tax statement, and read “Texas on the Brink”.
During the 2006 campaign Gov Perry looked into the camera and said “I’m proud of Texas. Are you?” I think the answer is very clear. Only Rick Perry could be proud of living in the worst state in the United States.

It’s funny you should mention buying guns.
I was looking at Patriot Guard missions and noticed that sometimes they ask for members with Mini-14s or AR-15 type rifles to participate in military fire salutes at veteran’s funerals.
I remarked to my wife that ‘I don’t really need a rifle, but I wouldn’t mind having a Mini-14 if only to use on PGR missions’.
Her reaction surprised me. “Go buy it TODAY!”
So Obama has convinced her that now is the time to buy any firearm one has ever considered purchasing.

Most of these statistics, to the extend they are even correct at all, reflect our large population of immigrants.
A much better measure of where the ‘shitholes’ are is to look at people voting with their feet.
People are leaving the Northeast and rust belt blue states like Illinois and Michigan in droves. Even California, with all its advantages of geography and climate is losing people to Texas and other conservative ‘shitholes’.
Thanks to people like Obama, every day we in Texas gain hundreds of productive people seeking escape from corrupt and crime ridden blue states.
Jim, the Mini’s are very popular, but would highly recommend an AR style rifle(if you can find one), just for the availability of magazines and accessories for them. They are much more common, and most have parts that are interchangeable.
According to the “Brady Bunch” list, the Mini’s would be banned, along with AR’s.
But you are right, people like you and your bride, who had never really given gun ownership much thought, are buying what they can.
Start shopping around, and check for any gun shows in your area, you will get a better selection and price, than at a retail shop.
Most of my friends moved to Austin after college. A number of friends in the computer graphic industry have fled California for Austin, too. I grew up in Chicago. It’s definitely a shit hole.

Critter uses some standard socialist benchmarks to show the world how bad Texas is. What these un-sourced and possibly imaginary stats don’t tell is that perhaps freedom is still paramount and government involvement in every aspect of Texans lives is still a few years down the road. Of course, when your home state is absolutely overrun by foreigners that A. have no respect for the law and B. No basis for understanding the law, what the hell does anyone expect? Now I suppose if I was, say, on an island not overrun by foreign nationals, I could sit in judgment of others that I know nothing about and maybe even call them rednecks or any other racial slur I wished and I could sit smugly and think how smart I am.
Now, I gotta go get some religion so I can fit critter’s stereotype.
