Eric Holder Thinks We Are a Nation of Cowards

Is Eric Holder the biggest coward in D.C.?

Is Eric Holder the biggest coward in D.C.?

Obama’s Attorney General, Eric Holder, the man who is serving as the first black attorney general at the pleasure of the first black American president — thinks that we (that’s you and me) are a “nation of cowards.”

Attorney General Eric Holder said Wednesday that despite advances, the United States remains “a nation of cowards” on issues involving race.

“Though this nation has proudly thought of itself as an ethnic melting pot, in things racial, we have always been, and we, I believe, continue to be, in too many ways, a nation of cowards,” Holder said in remarks to his staff in honor of Black History Month. His comments appear on a transcript provided by the Justice Department.

To which I simply respond, “Go fuck yourself, Eric.”

Here’s a man who has been on the public tit almost his entire adult life since graduating from Columbia Law School and taking a job with the U.S. Justice Department.

And yet, this guy has the nerve to call us cowards? Seriously? This guy?

  • the same weasel who orchestrated the last-minute Clinton pardon of fugitive and Democratic contributor Marc Rich — a truly cowardly act — calling us cowards? Now that’s rich.
  • the same terrorist-friendly guy who was involved in Clinton’s decision to reduce the sentences of 16 members of the Boricua Popular Army, an organization that has been categorized by the FBI as a terrorist organization. Appeasing terrorists makes you a coward, Eric.
  • the same anti-second amendment assclown who, during D.C. v. Heller urged the Supreme Court to uphold Washington, D.C.’s anti-second amendment and unconstitutional handgun ban. It is said that “only criminals, tyrants and cowards have reason to fear the armed, honest citizen.” Holder’s clearly in the “coward” camp on this one.
  • the same coward who unleashed machine-gun toting ATF agents on 7-year old Elian Gonzalez.

Just another Liberal with absolute disdain for the ordinary, non-Ivy League, bitter gun and Bible clingers of America.

_____

Michelle Malkin:

Funny. When I think of racial cowards, I think of Barack Obama at Jeremiah Wright’s church, sitting there week after week, year after year, saying nothing about the separatist demagoguery echoing from the pulpit to the pews.

  6. I don’t know what it is with Obama and his asshat appointees, and his fatass wife, but they are always bashing America and Americans. They don’t have AA in other countries. They should be thankful for everything the US has handed them on a platter. Yet, they are a bunch of mealy mouth ingrates.

  8. Along with his litany of bad decisions, Holder saying this about our citizens further exemplifies the disdain he holds for this country.
What I find truly telling is the timing of his statement, in that it comes as a statement in honor of “Black History” month.
Mr. Holder, I don’t view you as a coward, but as a fetid and festering meat bag. The fact that there is even a “Black History” month and not a “White History” month, demonstrates where the problems of race relations resides, in this country.
That you serve at the pleasure of the current President, leader of identity politics in this era, is only fitting.
For me, I’m neither an ageist, racist, or sexist, but I am a behaviorist, and people like you are the one’s I stand in opposition to. You do nothing to advance our society in a positive manner.

  10. Since the Yahoo news has chosen to feature a litany of nutbag “christian” blogs on my news site, I think I must respond.

You feed your simple minded readers with quotes like “nation of cowards’ without any context. No direct quotes of the rest of his statement which would give your quotes any meaning.

You pretend to be a christian just like Bush pretended to be a christian.

    Pro-life and pro-war and pro-hate.

You should be ashamed, but you probably no longer know how.

I am disgusted that you live in “liberal” Austin.

To you and your ilk, reality is liberal. Sick. Every dam one of you.

  11. Did anyone read the entire statement Mr Holder said? First he said “we” (himself included) are a nation of cowards. Figure he’s talking from experience? Later in his speech, he says, “”If we’re going to ever make progress, we’re going to have to have the guts, …the determination, to be honest with each other. It also means we have to …accept criticism where that is justified… .” Others, like myself, agreed with Mr Holder even though the delivery of his message was non-filtered for everyones taste. For example, Andrew Grant-Thomas, Deputy Director of the Kirwan Institute for the Study of Race and Ethnicity at Ohio State University, praised Holder’s general message…”He’s right on the substance, but that’s probably not the most politic way of saying it.” But perhaps this is what we need in D.C. Less politics, more reality.

  12. Flywheel:

One, this is not a Christian blog and Robbie is not a Christian.

Two, see how Holder’s name is in blue? That is what is called a hyperlink. If you click it, and click a link on the page it takes you to, there is a transcript of his entire speech. Anyone can read the whole damn speech. The quoted article above also clues you in that the transcript is linked: His comments appear on a transcript provided by the Justice Department. If you weren’t dumb as dirt, you could have figured it out.

Three, having read Holder’s speech before I commented, which I doubt you did, he’s an asshat.

    Posted by Anonymous | February 19, 2009, 10:46 am
  13. Muhmmed: I bet most commenters, except flywheel, have read the entire transcript. There is no “we” in “we.” It is still insulting to call Americans cowards. I have no doubt he is a coward, but he does not speak for me or most Americans.

Neither Holder nor you or flywheel want honesty. We gave you honesty and you are whining about it. All we fucking hear about is race. Here’s some more criticism you don’t want to hear. You want change, try:

Keep you dick in your pants and your legs closed and stop popping out kids that you can not care for financially nor emotionally. The worse scourge of the black community is illegitimacy. The family is no more. Just a bunch of baby daddies who are not around to father their children.

Do something about your gang problem. And stop glorifying gangs and being a whore in your music.

Stop blaming everyone else for your shortcomings.

  14. if holder made a mistake, it was in putting a broad brush to his accusation. i do think (if you actually paid attention to what he was saying ) that he was taking the politically correct crowd to task, and rightfully so. they are always tring to cover up our differences and make us all the same. i must say that many on the extreme right like maulkin constantly speak out and show you where their bias and hatred are, and they do not hide their contempt for those who are not like them.

ignorance should be out in the light where we can all see it. we will never know how bad our problems are or who to reach out to and help if we shut everybody up. which means we cannot start to fix these problems.

other than the broad brush of blame, holder was entirely correct. we should all be able to speak freely on this. not just a select few. and we should start now.

  15. i must say that many on the extreme right like maulkin constantly speak out and show you where their bias and hatred are, and they do not hide their contempt for those who are not like them.

Yes, anyone who objects to free rides, historical revisionism, and the extremist left, is extreme right, biased, and a hater who does not hide their contempt for those not like them. [eyeroll]

  16. you need to look up the word –bias “Anonymous” and then look back at your own comment. you just managed to confirm one of my points. as for your comment, i could have gone to maulkin’s outright contempt for all muslims and her support for locking up japanese americansin WWII, as well as many other misteps in myopia from maulkin but that was not my goal.

why did you confirm it? because in your statement it is conveyed that anyone or everyone from the left is always wrong or always bad. that is a bias, and like all other bias is not based on solid fact or historical accuracy. that is no different from one saying that all people oj the right are wrong or evil. that would be an outright lie and a bias.

not all right wingers publicly dsiplay contempt for groups different from them and not all liberals try to supress using politically correct tactics. many of both of these ecamps do however display such poor behavior.

we have problems here with race (as well as other divisions like political ideology) and a huge chunk of america, wants to have everyone not mention the subjerct (largely the left). if you disagree with what i have just said now, let’s hear it out in the light.

this time try and stay focused on the topic and if you can do it, avoid spinning the conversation.

  17. Having read the entire text of Mr. Holders “Nation of Cowards” speech I find myself in agreement with his comments. Too many Americans shy away from intellgent conversations about race. Even among friends it’s an uncomfortable subject to pursue, and I don’t mean just between black and white people I mean all ethnicities. Race and racism is something that needs to be addressed and the best place to start the conversation is with our young people in our education system.

  18. To Anonymous.. AMEN brother (or sister)..while I do not consider myself a racist, I do have a serious problem with “Gangsta” rap music, the young black males I see hanging out all day on their cell phones not in school nor do they have a job because they are too damn lazy to get one,(why should they when drug dealing earns them so much more) and all the single black mothers living with THEIR mothers in this neighborhood. While I could go on and on, these are the facts and if you want honesty this is it. Stop blaming all your damn problems on racisim and deal with the real issuues.

  19. Ms. Independent, we had a young man beaten to death near scranton here last year. the young men who beat up this young man and killed him did not know him personally. all these men knew was that he looked like he was a mexican.

if you read the full text of holders speech he was not blaming racism for the problems of blacks. he was stating that our divisions are a serious problem that should be talked about openly and not hidden.

if you do not think such ignorance is causing major problems go tell that to the family of the dead young man.

  20. Gish: You’re the one who needs to buy a dictionary and learn to read better, pal. You confirmed my comment that people of your political ilk are intolerant of any other view but your own.

This post has noting to do with Malkin yet you keep interjecting her into the discussion. So, don’t lie and say it was not your goal. I will not even try to explain the legal argument in support of internment to you, which was around long before Malkin wrote her book, because it is sure to sail well over your politically correct head.

I merely mimicked your way of thinking in my post and immediately it got your panties in a twist. Don’t like having a mirror held up to you, I see. The only thing I confirmed is that you are a hypocrite and intolerant.

You certainly displayed your contempt for anyone who isn’t a total leftard. No, we don’t have problems here with race. We do have problems with people using it a club or scam for financial and political gain.

I suggest you look up focus in your new dictionary. You are the one who went off topic with your b.s.

  22. Oh my goodness anonymous, tooooo many Remron for you today

maulkin was a sidebar and not the central point in my comments. anyone reading my comments can clearly see that if the foam from their mouth is not getting in their eyes. you actually seized on my maulkin reference in your first comment an amped it up, you are the one that brought her up again yourself. bad part for you is that you only displayed her bias for anyone who was a liberal, i did not bring that subject up you did. you totally ignore that i also trashed political correctness, and the behavior of many liberals.

as for my bias that you speak of, i clearly pointed the finger at both sides, and anyone who is sane can clearly see that as well. not at one side, but both sides.

you may accuse of me of having a bias towards most uber liberals and conservatives. that might be fair, but I think most rational people would be worried about anyone who cannot think without first consulting their talking points memo. . but to accuse me based solely on this thread of tilting one way or the other clearly shows you not only have serious problems with comprehension, but perhaps dance frequently in ballrooms that do not exist anywhere other than your own mind.

What I was addressing was ignorance of human beings in this country and holders attempt to put a spotlight on it. You showed up at just the right time to stand in that spotlight.

People with open minds will clearly see that. As for those who’s minds are closed, there is no reaching them anyway so I could care less about their reaction.

as for your comment about deflection, my last sentance above covers that. don’t worry that you do not get it. i certainly will not have any trouble sleeping despite your inadequacies.

Posted by reverend gisher | February 19, 2009, 1:49 pm
  23. Nothing is worse than you dorks who claim to be fair because they criticize both sides. You’re not.

Talk about being ignorant! The subject is Holder, Holder’s speech, race, and his comments in the speech calling Americans cowards. You are trying to spin it into fifty million directions to justify you coming here and dropping your turds. Someone, i.e., Ms. Independent attempts to engage you and you imply she has a closed mind. Obviously, you are the christian whacko that flywheel was referring to.

I in no way, shape form or fashion condone that kind of racial violence.I was merely pointing out what causes the racial divide in MY neighborhood..and I do believe that black on black crime is a far more serious problem in this country..Soledad O’Brien did a show on CNN called Black in America..I think people should watch the re-run coming up soon.. excellent reporting..

I want to know if Holder has stated anything like this before or if he is just feeling “safe” to say this now that he is Attorney General. I haven’t followed him in the news, so I am unaware if this is a position he has taken for some time or if it is a new stance/position.

    • The issue with Holder is he thinks our country isn’t talking enough about race issues. To which I say, “bullshit.” We’re talking plenty. In fact, at times, talking about race is all the Democrat party wants to do. Although, oddly enough, during his campaign for President, Mr. Obama didn’t want to talk about race…interesting.

At this time in our history, the only thing holding black people down/back/under (pick your preposition) is black people themselves and their culture. Continuing to blame “institutional racism”, “whitey”, or “racially biased standardized testing” is just an exercise in perpetuating a victim mentality that has become the bread and butter of Democrats and race hustlers (yeah, I’m looking at your Sharpton and Jackson).

  30. try reading holder’s speech, and every word of it. the speech was not about blacks. it was reguarding ignorance, a lack of knowledge about each other. look up in this thread a bit and see where i was called a “religious whacko”. the problem with holder’s speech was that it did not mention bias based on religion or based on political dogma. we have found dozens of ways to hate and tune out our fellow americans. and we are all to blame for this.

as for talking about it we actually are talking AT each other and not listening and learning from each other. and then we wonder why things keep getting worse. it is however much harder to hate someone you truly understand.

i put up my comments to get people to jolt themsleves into thinking for themselves rather than reacting reflexively which has already occurrred in this thread.

just a few thoughts from a “religious whacko” who is also may be doubling as a black lesbian midget, who also happens to feel and bleed just like the rest of you. someone who hears the smart things each of you are saying as well as the stuff you exhale that has no foundations in reality.

good day my fellow humans, i hope you can learn to talk to each other and listen too. most importantly…

    listen.

  31. To Rev. Gisher.Did I not say that I do not condone that kind of racial violence? What happen to that young man is truly tragic. I also happen to think that what happen to the young man in the “Jena 6″ incident was also tragic, although he did not die. Holder says we don’t have enough honest conversations with each other about race. But when we try to express our opinion on the reasons we see for social divides, which by the way DO have foundations in reality, we are considered ignorant. How is this moving forward ? The truth really is painful..

Not because I’m racisits but because it’s so damn accurate. When I suggested watching that special on CNN, it justifies everything we have both said here. 37. Frances Rice, at the NBRA, has a piece on what the Jackasses in Congress, along with B-HO, have done.

DEMOCRATS SOLD OUT AMERICA FOR 30 PIECES OF SILVER.

Obama’s cruelest slap was on the face of black Americans. Buried in the bowels of that big government spending bill is a poison pill that kills welfare reform. Welfare money will no longer be used for job training, child care or transportation. Instead, the money will now, once again, be just a government handout that keeps black children trapped in generational poverty. Uncle Sam has replaced the father in the homes of poor blacks because you cannot get a welfare check if there is a man in the house. Democrats have been running black communities for the past 40 years. The socialist polices of the Democrats have created a culture of dependency on government handouts and turned black communities into economic and social wastelands. Socialism is a moral and economic cancer that destroys families, communities and nations.

As for Holder lecturing anyone, about anything to do with race, while a “Black History” month is observed, or there is a “Congressional Black Caucus,” is even more absurd than the pardons he pushed through on Clintoon’s desk.

  39. hey robbie,
can you dump the above please; i ran out of editing time. thanks!

i’m willing to engage on “race,” but i must preface by saying that i believe the categorization serves no positive purpose in contemporary america. i mean the laws are now designed to protect those historically discriminated against. what more can america do legally, mr. a.g.? we are already beyond the point where overreaching legislation to this end is creating protected classes and inadvertantly(i hope) discriminating against others. shouldn’t we be focused on making america as color blind as possible? or is that phrase just lip service in the effort to furthur perpetuate victimologist identity?

guys like sharpton, obama, rev. wright & holder don’t really want to talk about “race”; they interchange the word synonomously with skin color… and it seems to me that they don’t really want to dissect all of the variatons of that. they more or less claim to want to talk about those who appear black but even this claim forces my skepticism. most times, they want to portray people who have darker skin as victims followed by screaming over or simply ignoring those that disagree. if holder genuinely does want to generate dialog about divisions based on ethnicity, i feel america should accomodate him. in fact, i believe that with respect to ethnic discussion, far too many americans are cowards.

this was never more evident than back in november when america looked the other way and elected obama despite his multidecade association with an extremist sect claiming to be simultaneously “christian” as well as pro “black liberation theology.” even the most liberal pro-obama news outlets were forced to cover the divisive, race-hustling views that the obama’s subjected their young daughters to every sunday. when the obama campaign could no longer hide behind “it’s a black thing, you wouldn’t understand,” we had the beauty that was 3/18/08 in philadelphia.
much like holder’s comments, this speech was an invitation to dialog. expediant and politically correct as it seemed, many accepted. my favoite was newt.
as you probably guessed, there was no obama reply. why? i suspect the polls said it was better to drop the subject. this wise decision appears to have nullified obama’s church, and “racial” views as campaign issues. it also appears to have given us the first affirmative action based leader of the free world.

so i’ll happily engage on any incarnation of the discussion but let’s first be clear about what were conversing. then, let’s call out those that invite discussion and then hide from it when they don’t like what they hear. finally, let’s keep it factual, as close to objective as possible, and not let it get personal.

  41. Excellent piece at American Thinker.
    A Nation Of Cowards?

Of course, Eric Holder is correct.

When it comes to race we Americans are, for the most part, a nation of cowards. This cowardice was on full display during the most recent presidential election and continues today.
    ——————-
Yes, there are rabid racists about in the land. They come in all shades. But they are few in relative number. Yet too many of us have cowered in the face of these racial bullies. No more. Americans of good faith, Americans who live our lives with love in our hearts, charity in our actions, and malice toward only those who seek to destroy us must stand up for ourselves and resist these baseless charges and worthless observations. It is obvious that our acts alone do not satisfy the race-warmongers among us, and it behooves us to conclude that they never will.

    Amen, brother!

  42. From Jonah Goldberg.
    Cowardly Conversation Starter.

“This debate can, and should, be nuanced, principled and spirited. But the conversation we now engage in as a nation on this and other racial subjects is too often simplistic and left to those on the extremes, who are not hesitant to use these issues to advance nothing more than their own narrow self-interest.”

Perhaps. Or perhaps calling views you disagree with “extreme” and accusing those who hold them of having dishonorable motives is just a clever way of saying that you don’t want an “honest conversation” at all.

    Nail, meet hammer.

  44. Holder?? This joke? “Coward” might apply to someone that actively seeks the pardon of an infamous financial felon (the kind now decried by democrats) because his southern white boss tells him to. Maybe “Uncle Tom” fits as well. Holder can kiss my rear end……

  45. Speaking of U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder:

Eric Holder is a racial-minority individual, and in his heart and mind he inevitably does not endorse hate crimes committed by George W. Bush.

George W. Bush committed hate crimes of epic proportions and with the stench of terrorism (indicated in my blog).

George W. Bush did in fact commit innumerable hate crimes.

And I do solemnly swear by Almighty God that George W. Bush committed other hate crimes of epic proportions and with the stench of terrorism which I am not at liberty to mention.

Many people know what Bush did.

And many people will know what Bush did—even to the end of the world.

    Bush was absolute evil.

Bush is now like a fugitive from justice.

    Bush is a psychological prisoner.

Bush has a lot to worry about.

Bush can technically be prosecuted for hate crimes at any time.

In any case, Bush will go down in history in infamy.

“GEORGE W. BUSH IS THE WORST PRESIDENT IN U.S. HISTORY” BLOG OF ANDREW YU-JEN WANG

I am not sure where I had read it before, but anyway, it is a linguistically excellent statement, and it goes kind of like this: “If only it were possible to ban invention that bottled up memories so they never got stale and faded.” Oh wait—off the top of my head—I think the quotation came from my Lower Merion High School yearbook.

    • I’ll pass on visiting your blog, seeing as how it is infected with BDS, it probably has viruses too.
Why not name one or two hate crimes that you allege W committed?
And for the sake of accuracy, Jimmah Carter was the worst President in our history, and B-HO is Jimmah on speed.
