HUZZAH, For Texas!

After pulling an all-nighter, SB362 has passed it’s latest debate by a 20-12 vote.

All that remains for passage of this important piece of legislation, is some decorative icing, and celebratory candles.

Acting as a “committee of the whole,” the Senate approved the so-called “Voter ID” bill 20-12. It now will need another vote by the full Senate, but Wednesday’s vote all but assures its passage.

Dewhurst said the passage moves Texas one step closer to a more secure voting system that will help prevent voter fraud and “instill greater confidence among all Texans that their vote counts.”

Good job, Texas Senate, and thanks for protecting the integrity of our vote.

  1. This is great news.

However, my understanding is that it was always expected to be passed by the Senate, and that the real battle lies ahead in the House.

Either way, with more than 80% of Texans supporting Voter ID laws, I think we’ll (finally) get it done this year.

    • Well, dang.
I was under the impression that this was the last hurdle.
Now I have been rained on inside, and out.

  2. There’s no such thing as “the last hurdle”.

If this bill becomes a law, it is certain to be challenged in court.

As far as 80 percent of Texans supporting it, when has the will of the people ever mattered to the left?

  3. Actually, I welcome the “outside” rain, we needed it.

  4. Texas Dems are smelling a rat:

Late last week, State Representative Rafael Anchia (HD103 – Dallas) revealed that Greg Abbott had improperly withheld a series of highly suspicious affidavits and letters alleging voter fraud in Hidalgo County during a local municipal election in May of 2008 and the November 2008 General Election.

The suspicious documents include four possibly fraudulent affidavits discussing impersonation voting. Three of the affidavits are signed by the same Notary Public and have oddly similar language and phrasing.

Both State Representative Rafael Anchia and State Senator Kirk Watson (SD14 – Austin) filed separate formal requests weeks ago calling on the Attorney General to provide them all documents related to complaints and investigations of voter fraud. ( Dallas Morning News, March 7, 2009 )

Abbott failed to provide the documents or even notify the Legislators of their existence. Representative Anchia learned about the suspicious documents from sources outside the AG’s office. ( Dallas Morning News, March 7, 2009 )

Just where has the AG been this week when his pet issue was being debated in the Senate?

  5. Interesting Pat is calling out people on forgery, considering he has been caught lying about having a lesbian daughter.

    • Sam, is that what he was copying and pasting about?
And being Mohamed Fareq of Yemen.
      /too funny
