2nd Amendment

Obama Doesn’t Want Our Guns, Just The Ammo!

A strong body makes the mind strong. As to the species of exercises, I advise the gun. While this gives moderate exercise to the body, it gives boldness, enterprise and independence to the mind. Games played with the ball, and others of that nature, are too violent for the body and stamp no character on the mind. Let your gun therefore be your constant companion of your walks.

Thomas Jefferson

There has been much written about Obama’s lies throughout the Presidential campaign, that he supports the Second Amendment, and that he would not pursue gun bans. There have also been statements by his AG Eric Holder, that he wishes to reinstate the assault weapons ban, as well as the anti-gun group “The Brady Bunch” issuing a policy paper listing the specific weapons that they wish banned.

Another item of concern, that never received as much attention, by concerned supporters of the Second Amendment, is the Ammunition Accountability Act, which is/has been introduced in several state legislatures. Should this pass in enough states, it could be the platform for federal legislation.

Since the election of our current President, it has been widely reported that firearm and ammunition sales have risen dramatically, to the point of frenzy buying, and that shortages of each are widely reported. A quick look at the largest internet ammo supplier, Ammo Man, gives one a glimpse into how busy they are serving their customers.

Knowing that Obama isn’t bright enough to think of this on his own, of course it his dark overlords and lawyered up administration, that is behind this latest outrage, designed to limit the availability of civilian ammunition. It is the required destruction of surplus military brass casings, rather than selling them intact for reloading.

From the link:

Effective immediately DOD Surplus, LLC, will be implementing new requirements for mutilation of fired shell casings. The new DRMS requirement calls for DOD Surplus personnel to witness the mutilation of the property and sign the Certificate of Destruction. Mutilation of the property can be done at the DRMO, if permitted by the Government, or it may be mutilated at a site chosen by the buyer. Mutilation means that the property will be destroyed to the extent prevents its reuse or reconstruction. DOD Surplus personnel will determine when property has been sufficiently mutilated to meet the requirements of the Government.

If you do not agree with the new conditions of your spot sale, please sign the appropriate box provided below stating that you do not agree to the new terms and would like to cancel your purchase effective immediately. If you do agree to the new terms please sign in the appropriate box provided below to acknowledge your understanding and agreement with the new requirements relating to your purchase. Fax the signed document back to (480) 367-1450, emailed responses are not acceptable.

Please respond to this request no later than close of business Monday, March 16th, 2009.

Sincerely,

Government Liquidation.

All the brass casings would be rendered useless, only good for metal scrap, which would then be melted down, and sold on the metals market.
The effect will be devastating not only to the availability of ammunition on the civilian market, but to law enforcement, and will cost quite a few jobs. Not exactly stimulating.

Georgia Arms, who brought this to our attention, is the 5th largest ammunition manufacturer of centerfire pistol and rifle ammunition in the U.S.

“We’re right up there behind Hornady,” Larry Haynie told me.

He also told me with the cancellation of his contract to purchase this brass, and the ending of his ability to purchase any more expended military ammunition, he will have to severely curtail his operation–laying off approximately half his 60-person work force.

Haynie further pointed out this move is a stupendous waste of taxpayer money–reducing the worth of the brass some 80%–from casings, to shredded bulk brass.

For those who have been dawdling about stocking up on ammo, or have been waiting for the current seller’s market to end, so prices would come down, your time is up. The time to buy is now, if you aren’t already stocked up.

The only way this type of action can be curtailed, is with a new administration, and of course, that is change we can believe in.

Here is a pdf of a letter rescinding this policy.
