The speed at which the Obama administration is moving to destroy capitalism in this country should alarm everyone. Well, except of course the Socialists who don’t think the end of capitalism and free markets can get here fast enough.

Obama has already granted his understaffed-and-overwhelmed Treasury Department the confiscatory power to seize American banks. And now he’s asking Congress to grant him even more power to seize other American businesses:

The Obama administration is considering asking Congress to give the Treasury secretary unprecedented powers to initiate the seizure of non-bank financial companies, such as large insurers, investment firms and hedge funds, whose collapse would damage the broader economy, according to an administration document.

The government at present has the authority to seize only banks.

First Obama takes over our banks. Then he takes over other non-banking financial companies. What next? Automobile manufacturers? Energy companies? Oil companies? Your company?

Right Wing News:

Call it socialism, nationalism, progressivism, or fascism (the digital brownshirts legislation and organizing for America issues surely make a good case, as well,) but, whatever you call it, it should cause serious concern for those who love what our country is founded on.

Obama is still trying to transition from campaigning for President to being President — and he wants us to believe him and his wafer-thin staff can run our nation’s businesses and economy?

  1. Robbie, what’s more important, and is getting no media play, is HR 1388, or the Jugend bill that will force all our children into servitude.

Yesterday, it passed cloture in the Senate, with Kay Bailey voting “yea”.

    THIS MUST BE STOPPED.

The bill provides for “service-learning” training for our kids (Saul Alinsky style, I’m sure), uniforms and summer “camps”.

    Obamanazi.

  2. Robbie,

I wouldn’t sweat it. Obama et. al. just want to make money like the rest of us. A long-term bank takeover probably just isn’t in the cards. I spoke to some people who were SURE that Bush, Wolfowitz et. al. were going to do unspeakable, immoral things (which never came to pass).

And Retire05–thanks for the mention of HR1388. I’ve been meaning to read it in full. It’d better be quite terrifying for you to evoke the Nazi regime. I’m sure you wouldn’t compare our nation to Nazi Germany if it wasn’t.

    Tom

  3. Hey all–

I think this is the offensive text in that bill:

“service-learning is a mandatory part of the curriculum in all of the secondary schools served by the local educational agency.”

    Just fyi . . .

  4. Tom; I don’t know what you call it when you force elementary and secondary (under 8th grade) children to “volunteer” for programs designed by the federal government. Or perhaps you can tell me where I can find another agency of our federal government that is referred to as the “Corporation”, which will be under the purview of the Secretary of Education, as this one will be.

Know what the KGB was called in Russia? The Company. See much difference between the Corporation and the Company?

Of course, since you have not read it yet, as you admitted, you are certainly qualified to question my understanding of the bill, which I have read, speaking from a point of information as you seem to be doing.

HR 1388 is a clear violation of parental rights. And if you are a parent, or a grandparent, and this bill doesn’t frighten you, then you are a moron. If you don’t have children, then you really don’t (to paraphrase Obama) have any skin in the game except for the increase in school taxes you will be required to pay to fund this power grab for our children. Hopefully you live in Travis County. Their appraisal district is known for fairness, right?

  5. Simple question: What do we do about this? By 2010, it will be too late to “vote anyone out,” which doesn’t happen very much anyway. At the rate that Obama is going, everything will be nationalized in the next month. I’m REALLY getting scared. Would the military actually let him go that far? The country is declining as we speak.

    • Pam, I disagree, and a look back at the midterm election in ’94 is one example. An even better one is 1966.

Lyndon Johnson’s 1964 election landslide, big Democratic gains in Congress, and the subsequent flood of liberal legislation flowing from Washington persuaded many observers that the Republican Party was nearly defunct. At best, they reasoned, it would take years for the GOP to reconstitute itself and regain relevance in the American system.
      ———–
When all was said and done, the GOP gained 47 House seats, three Senate seats, eight governorships, and 557 state legislative seats. Republican governors controlled 25 states, the most since the early 1950s. Republicans actually won a majority of the aggregated national vote for U.S. Senate. Of the 38 House districts where Democrats had replaced Republicans in 1964, only 14 remained in Democratic hands in 1966.

We can fight back now, and regain the House in ’10, and put an end to the outrageous spending.
There are many vulnerable donks, that are starting to buck the donk leadership in some of the legislation coming up. Cap and trade is dead, and the commie health care idea is up against it.
      Be positive.

  6. No2L, we still suffer from that effects of the other obama, Jimma Cotta.
We will suffer long term for obama no matter what. When the next amnesty is granted, and it will be, when cap and trade is put in, and it will be, when our energy development is further delayed and mired down and on and on, the damage will be done.
No amount of re-writing history by the left can put carters admin in a good light, it was a disaster for the country. This one is well on its way to topping it. in just 60 days.

    • Colin,
I thought I linked a piece here the other day, but must not have.
According to a report by Stephanoupoulousousous this past weekend, cap and trade is dead.
Oprompta can ask for one of the grabs he wanted, and he has decided to grab for health care.
Oprompta can still do a lot of damage, I don’t dispute that, but we can certainly curtail a lot of the spending if we can flush the House.

  7. I’m also very concerned about HR 1388. The problem is the unspoken language leaves the interpretation of service up to Congress and I’ll tell you what – Congress and the democrats are the last group I want to give that interpretation to. And MANDATORY? MY ASS! People better wake up in this country and fast.

  8. Retire05,

Ok Ok — easy now! I really haven’t read it, but I will. No need to bust out the ‘moron’ threat.

I do indeed have skin in the game and I appreciate your passion for any legislation that affects our kids. I was hoping that the bill emphasized a need for service-learning in schools, but it sounds like it’s going a good bit beyond that.

    Best,
    Tom

  9. Retire05, Diane –

I can’t find the mention of mandatory enrollment/’volunteerism.’ Can you paste that passage here?

    Thank you,
    Tom

  10. Reading “Legalese” is definitely not my strong suit, but if I am reading the bill correctly, it doesn’t create any kind of mandatory service. The section:
“service-learning is a mandatory part of the curriculum in all of the secondary schools served by the local educational agency.”

is how a “Youth Engagement Zone” is defined. In other words, IF “service-learning is mandatory…” THEN it’s a Youth Engagement Zone.

So I don’t think we’re talking about drafting our kids into the Hitler Youth.

Even so, I’m going to contact my Senators and my Congressman and tell them I am against the bill, it’s nothing but a waste of money.

If any of you have more experience/skill at reading legislation, I would appreciate confirmation or denial of my analysis.

I have two teenagers at home, so I am very concerned about this.
