The section: “service-learning is a mandatory part of the curriculum in all of the secondary schools served by the local educational agency.” is how a "Youth Engagement Zone" is defined. In other words, IF "service-learning is mandatory..." THEN it's a Youth Engagement Zone. So I don't think we're talking about drafting our kids into the Hitler Youth. Even so, I'm going to contact my Senators and my Congressman and tell them I am against the bill, it's nothing but a waste of money. If any of you have more experience/skill at reading legislation, I would appreciate confirmation or denial of my analysis. I have two teenagers at home, so I am very concerned about this.
