Obama Wants to Screw Veterans Out of Their Health Benefits

Obama wants this Soldier to pay his own health care costs. And tax him for it.

Obama wants this Soldier to pay his own health care costs. And tax him for it.

The US Military has a “you break it, you buy it” philosophy when it comes to troops getting injured in the line of duty — namely, if you become disabled while serving your country, the US Government just “bought” whatever you injured as is responsible for providing you medical care (at the Government’s expense) for that disability.

Never before has a politician suggested that men and women wounded in the defense of their nation should actually be responsible for paying for their own treatment. Why hasn’t anybody ever suggested it before? Because it’s morally repugnant and indefensible.

Unless of course you’re Barack Obama.

Who happens to think that Veterans should be forced to use their own private insurance to pay for wounds they received while fighting for their country.

In other words, Obama wants every civilian in this country to get free, nationalized health care, yet he wants wounded veterans to pay for their own treatment?

As one of those disabled veterans who would be direclty affected by this change in law, I’d like to offer up a hearty middle-fingered salute to Mr. Obama and tell him to go fuck himself.

Adding insult to injury

While Obama is busy spending billions upon trillions of dollars on Democrat pet projects, he wants Veterans to pay for their own health care? And on top of that (as if that’s not revolting enough), Obama also wants to tax health care benefits.

(Michelle Malkin asks, “What isn’t the Administration Open to Taxing?”

Don Surber quips, “The government takeover of the health care industry is the single biggest threat to everyone’s health.”)

So, not only will veterans be forced to use their own health insurance to pay for their treatment, but Dear Leader wants to tax them for that privilege, too.

Is there any wonder why active duty military and veterans hate Obama so much? When the coming revolution happens, and armed citizens march on D.C. to remove and replace our current government, who does Barack, Nancy, and Harry think is going to stand between them and the pissed-off nation? The military?

If that’s the case, I hope they have a Plan B…

  1. As nonsensical as this is, except for those who live in hopey-dopey land, a number of Senators have already come out and blasted this latest absurdity.

Q:What’s the difference between Jesus and B-HO?
    A:Jesus was a carpenter. B-HO can’t assemble a cabinet.

  5. I posted this response on another blog….part of me really hopes this dumbshit puts this forward. I think the overwhelming response will be a massive breath suck in with a collective “you have got to be shitting me” on the exhale. I think it will pretty much assure that this asswipe is a one. term. loser.

ETA…I’m pretty sure civilian employers will not be willing to assume the risk of citizen-soldiers care needs. So where does that put the guy willing to put his ass on the line for our country……risk your life and the financial health of your family, force your employer to assume the risk (which begs the question..what employer will or can afford to assume that risk) or lie to your employer when you’re hired regarding your commitment to Uncle Sam and hope that your employer is patriotic.

  6. B-HO’s Orwellian “GIVE” Act is moving, inexorably, through Congress.

  7. American Legion commander ‘angered’ after meeting Obama.

“It became apparent during our discussion today that the President intends to move forward with this unreasonable plan,” said Commander David K. Rehbein of The American Legion. “He says he is looking to generate $540-million by this method, but refused to hear arguments about the moral and government-avowed obligations that would be compromised by it.”

  8. This story made the front page of the Kansas City Star. I wondered if the liberal MSM would publish it.

Well, this story ain’t gonna sit too well with “the regular folk” if you know what I mean.

  9. Totally unacceptable. It makes me think that it’s his way of instituting the draft again. Enlistments will fall to nothing based on this, and we’ll be forced into conscription.

    Seriously…is BHO really this stupid?

  10. So where will the veterans work? No business person in their right mind would hire them. Their insurance would go through the roof. It will be just like a pre-existing condition. What a disgrace to all those who have given the most for this country. But its OK to give health care to illegals?! Please everyone, spread the word of what is being asked here. I believe the average American would be appalled, unfortunately most will never hear of it, due to our slanted media situation. God bless our troops and veterans!

  11. This is the most rediculous suggestion I ever heard from a polititian. A non vereran himself. He has a lot of brass to even think it could happen. Shows what a non patriot we elected. He should be ashamed of himself and resign after such a remark. Both sides of cngress should demand it.

  12. Look at what Obama is doing. Take it as a whole. Speeding up getting out of Iraq, closing Gitmo, reducing defense spending, offering deals to Russia, slapping Israel in face, even changing our vocabulary and NOW shitting on our military veterans.

    Who really is this guy?

  14. YOU must really want to rile up the easily led. Faux news got this started and moes like you keep it going.
Fox News promo falsely claimed Obama “pushes a plan” requiring vets to pay for health insurance
Summary: Fox News aired a promotion for a broadcast of Hannity that falsely claimed: “[President] Obama pushes a plan that could force vets to pay through the roof for health coverage.” In fact, the White House has stated it does not support a provision previously under consideration that would have billed military veterans’ private insurance companies for treatment of their combat-related injuries performed at Veterans Administration hospitals.

During the March 19 edition of Fox & Friends, Fox News aired a promotion for that evening’s broadcast of Hannity that falsely claimed: “[President] Obama pushes a plan that could force vets to pay through the roof for health coverage.” In fact, the White House has stated it does not support a provision previously under consideration that would have billed military veterans’ private insurance companies for treatment of their combat-related injuries performed at Veterans Administration hospitals. In a March 18 press release, press secretary Robert Gibbs stated of the “third party billing issue” that “the President has instructed that its consideration be dropped”:

The President has consistently stated that he is committed to working with veterans on the details of the 2010 VA Budget Proposal. The President demonstrated his deep commitment to veterans by proposing the largest increase in the VA budget in 30 years and calling VSO [veterans service organizations] and MSO [military service organizations] leaders into the White House for an unprecedented meeting to discuss various aspects of the budget proposal. In considering the third party billing issue, the administration was seeking to maximize the resources available for veterans; however, the President listened to concerns raised by the VSOs that this might, under certain circumstances, affect veterans and their families’ ability to access health care. Therefore, the President has instructed that its consideration be dropped. The President wants to continue a constructive partnership with the VSOs and MSOs and is grateful to those VSOs and MSOs who have worked in good faith with him on the budget proposal.

From the March 19 promo for Fox News’ Hannity:

ANNOUNCER: This is the thanks they get? Obama pushes a plan that could force vets to pay through the roof for health coverage. Fred Thompson asks: Don’t America’s heroes deserve better?

I prefer to send YOU that one finger salute and tell YOU to fVck off….from ANOTHER veteran who prefers to keep HER mind open and not believe everything that the moe-rons at FAUX spew!

    • Well, Kim, you might want to spin on the finger, as the issue was very much alive until the 18th. I don’t know what story you are referring to on FOX NEWS, the only reliable news source that doesn’t get a tingle up it’s leg for anything libs say. If, as you say, they ran a story like this on the 19th, a day after B-HO backed off, it could be they had spent considerable time preparing it.
You might want to check the original story in this thread, as well as the many links provided in the comments, if, as you claim, you want to keep your mind open.

  15. Did Obama accuse veterans of “selfishness” and whining? Would he have forced them to “pay for their war injuries”?
This e-mail is circulating. What is the truth about this one?

I don’t care what your political views are…you must read this. Another look at our president, unbelieveable!!!!

    *******************

HERE IS HIS RESPONSE WHEN HE BACKED OFF FROM HIS DECISION TO LET THE MILITARY PAY FOR THEIR WAR INJURIES……..WHAT A EMPTY HEADED PERSON HE MUST BE….SEND THIS TO EVERYONE TO SHOW JUST WHAT HE THINKS OF OUR MILITARY WHO FIGHT FOR OUR COUNTRY AND GET HURT PROTECTING OUR FREEDOM!!!

I HAVE ANOTHER NAME FOR THIS CREATURE BUT AM TRYING TO STOP USING THAT WORD FOR HIM….IT IS NOT NICE……

Bad press, including major mockery of the plan by comedian Jon Stewart, led to President Obama abandoning his proposal to require veterans carry private health insurance to cover the estimated $540 million annual cost to the federal government of treatment for injuries to military personnel received during their tours on active duty.

The President admitted that he was puzzled by the magnitude of the opposition to his proposal. “Look, it’s an all volunteer force,” Obama complained. “Nobody made these guys go to war. They had to have known and accepted the risks. Now they whine about bearing the costs of their choice? It doesn’t compute..”

“I thought these were people who were proud to sacrifice for their
country,” Obama continued. “I wasn’t asking for blood (oh but you did), just money. With the country facing the worst financial crisis in its history, I’d have thought that the patriotic thing to do (Let’s talk patriotic for a moment here…kids getting their ass shot at, of which there has been a loss there has been shoty supplies of appropriate protection – Parents are paying for it out of their own pocket, and you Sir, want to turn your back…Mr. Commander in Chief, is it??) would be to try to help reduce the nation’s deficit. I guess I underestimated the selfishness of some of my fellow Americans.”

WITH THIS THINKING IT WOULD SEEM THAT ALL POLITICAL OFFICES, FEDERAL, STATE, COUNTY & CITY EMPLOYEES WOULD FALL INTO THAT CATEGORY… THUS THEY SHOULD PAY FOR ALL THEIR HEALTH CARE AND THE PERKS THEY NOW RECEIVE SHOULD BE REMOVED AS THESE COSTS ARE PART OF THE JOB… THEY CAN ALWAYS FIND ANOTHER JOB…

SINCE THEY ALL ARE ALL SO VERY PATROIC, THE PRESIDENT SHOULD LEAD BY EXAMPLE AND START PAYING FOR HIS HEALTH INSURANCE AND ALL THE TRIPS HE MAKES ON AIRFORCE ONE…

LETS SEE HOW UNSELFISH HIS ADMININSTRATION IS…

Who the hell does this guy think he is? The volunteers for the military are the reason he’s where he is, they’re keeping him and family safe. He’s got to be from another planet!
A: This chain e-mail contains fabricated quotes and misrepresents a budget idea that the White House scrapped.

We’ve received many copies and variations of this e-mail in the past few weeks.

    Made-up Quotes

To start, the e-mail’s anonymous author offers no evidence to substantiate the disparaging remarks about veterans that he or she attributes to President Obama. White House spokesman Tommy Vietor told us that “these quotes are fabricated.”

Our own research backs that up. We searched news databases and turned up no news organization that has ever quoted Obama this way. We conclude that these quotes are simply made-up, and perhaps intended as satire.

    Garbled Budget Proposal

Furthermore, the author incorrectly describes a budget proposal that the White House discarded after veterans groups protested loudly. The message describes the idea as a “decision to let the military pay for their war injuries” and to “require veterans [to] carry private health insurance.” That gives a false picture of what was actually under discussion.

As reported by the Washington Post and others including Fox News, the Obama administration met with several veterans groups on March 16 and floated the idea of saving taxpayers $540 million by billing veterans’ private insurance companies for treatment of conditions connected to their military service, including war injuries. The Department of Veterans Affairs currently bills these insurance companies for treatment of non-service-related conditions.

But as administration officials made clear at the time, there was no proposal to force veterans to pay for treatment for their own injuries, or to make them buy private insurance if they did not already have it. In fact, administration officials told FactCheck.org at the time that their proposal would have no financial impact on veterans at all.

“The idea … would result in no additional out-of-pocket costs to veterans even when their private insurance plans require deductibles before benefits are paid,” one official told us in an exchange of e-mails.

Nevertheless, veterans organizations protested. An American Legion news release carried the headline: “The American Legion Strongly Opposed to President’s Plan to Charge Wounded Heroes for Treatment.” It complained that the idea could under some circumstances result in added costs to veterans despite administration officials’ assurances. For example, the Legion said, a veteran’s treatment might cost enough to reach maximum insurance coverage limits, leaving the rest of the veteran’s family without health care benefits.

Two days after its meeting with veterans groups, the White House released a formal announcement saying that “the President has instructed that [the idea's] consideration be dropped.”
