Great story about the Texas Longhorn football team’s newest commitment — 6′ 4″, 280 lb, defensive end Reggie Wilson from Haltom (Ft. Worth):

Wilson’s journey to Haltom has been highly traveled, and as he hopes, very influential. His parents emigrated to the Ivory Coast from Liberia before Wilson’s birth while the country was in the midst of civil war. When Wilson was 7, his parents left for the United States to send money back to the Ivory Coast in an effort to provide for their seven children and other orphaned refugees. Wilson helped tend to his family for three years before he moved to New York and then to Fort Worth.

He hopes to major in the Red McCombs School of Business and eventually give back to the Ivory Coast. Texas’ business school played a major part in his decision, which his family said was 99.9 percent his to make.

“The business school is in the top 5 percent in the country,” he said. “It’s going to be tough (to leave Fort Worth). All my life I’ve been with my parents since I got to this country. I think I will adjust. I’ll be OK.”

This is the kind of kid that you can really root for, and if anybody personifies the “American dream”, it’s a kid like Reggie Wilson.

I can’t wait to see him play for the Burnt Orange.
