The must read article of the day is this one in the Wall Street Journal:

Soak the Rich, Lose the Rich

You would think that Democrats would learn that increasing taxes on the wealthy is a dumb idea that doesn’t work. Especially in state governments, where rich people can vote with their feet and move from areas of oppressive and unfair tax burdens (like California), to states that don’t punish success (like Texas).

The tax differential between low-tax and high-tax states is widening, meaning that a relocation from high-tax California or Ohio, to no-income tax Texas or Tennessee, is all the more financially profitable both in terms of lower tax bills and more job opportunities.

Updating some research from Richard Vedder of Ohio University, we found that from 1998 to 2007, more than 1,100 people every day including Sundays and holidays moved from the nine highest income-tax states such as California, New Jersey, New York and Ohio and relocated mostly to the nine tax-haven states with no income tax, including Florida, Nevada, New Hampshire and Texas. We also found that over these same years the no-income tax states created 89% more jobs and had 32% faster personal income growth than their high-tax counterparts.

Did the greater prosperity in low-tax states happen by chance? Is it coincidence that the two highest tax-rate states in the nation, California and New York, have the biggest fiscal holes to repair? No. Dozens of academic studies — old and new — have found clear and irrefutable statistical evidence that high state and local taxes repel jobs and businesses.

Go read the entire thing. And if you live in a state run by Democrats, send it to your political leaders. And if they don’t heed, it…well…I guess we’ll be seeing ya’ll soon.

One last point: States aren’t simply competing with each other. As Texas Gov. Rick Perry recently told us, “Our state is competing with Germany, France, Japan and China for business. We’d better have a pro-growth tax system or those American jobs will be out-sourced.” Gov. Perry and Texas have the jobs and prosperity model exactly right. Texas created more new jobs in 2008 than all other 49 states combined. And Texas is the only state other than Georgia and North Dakota that is cutting taxes this year.

The Texas economic model makes a whole lot more sense than the New Jersey model, and we hope the politicians in California, Delaware, Illinois, Minnesota and New York realize this before it’s too late.

We’re gaining jobs, growing wealth, and cutting taxes. That’s what good, competent Republican leadership gets you.

  1. The real question is who is moving.

Is it going to be more Republicans and increase representation due to reapportionment or is it more Democrats and dilute representation?

  2. I think you’re burying the lede here:

PRINCETON, NJ — The decline in Republican Party affiliation among Americans in recent years is well documented, but a Gallup analysis now shows that this movement away from the GOP has occurred among nearly every major demographic subgroup. Since the first year of George W. Bush’s presidency in 2001, the Republican Party has maintained its support only among frequent churchgoers, with conservatives and senior citizens showing minimal decline.

Democrats are moving into every area of the country now. Your party is literally dying, as boomers to millenials turn away in droves. Enjoy.

    • LOL!
Once again, the false reports of the demise of the GOP is heralded by the far left fringe kooks.
If the giddyup poll is the be all/end all of polls, then surely taking a look at the latest Rasmussen Generic Congressional Ballot wouldn’t be harmful, especially considering they traditionally over sample with donks.

  3. PUT DOWN THE CRACKPIPE, PATRICIA!

  4. Keep flinging your poo and urine, monkey-boy. It’s very persuasive.

  5. Oh, tell us another made up story…you know, like the death throes of conservatism, or your fake cunt-eating daughter.

  6. Aw, was Dad’s cock a little too salty this morning, Sam?

It’ pretty funny that you think making fun of my daughter’s sexual preference will somehow offend me. Did I mention she likes women? Maybe you missed that?

Ah, the bottomless depths of wingnut stupidity…

  7. It is odd that many Democrats are so incredibly stupid that when they flee their dying blue states many of them move to a red state and then try and infect their new home with the Democrat mental disorder.

Today’s liberal talking point is that the Republican party is ‘is literally dying’. Maybe. But the country is still Conservative. Polls also show that most Americans are pro-life. Most oppose new taxes. Most think that waterboarding of a handful of terrorist leaders was a good thing. Most are skeptical of bailouts of banks and car companies. Most do not want witch hunts against the Bush administration. Most are skeptical about global warming, and even more skeptical that high taxes and punitive regulations will help in any case.

Republican candidates who see these facts will do just fine, thanks.

One interesting test of this theory will be today’s election in California. The Governator ( a media approved RINO) and the Democrat party want to raise taxes to continue transfer payments to their favored special interest groups.

If Pat is correct these tax increases will pass handily. Let’s see what happens.

  8. Oh, go make up another sob-sympathy story, you pathetic piece of Patshit.

  9. Most do not want witch hunts against the Bush administration.

For each of three controversial actions or policies of the Bush administration, survey respondents were asked whether there should be a criminal investigation by the Justice Department or an investigation by an independent panel that would issue a report of findings but not seek any criminal charges, or whether neither should be done.

While no more than 41% of Americans favor a criminal investigation into any of the matters, at least 6 in 10 say there should be either a criminal investigation or an independent probe into all three.
