What border control?
The gunman who shot and killed a Houston police officer and then was fatally shot during an undercover sting late Tuesday is believed to have been an illegal immigrant from Mexico, law enforcement officials said Wednesday.
Robert Rutt, agent in charge of the U.S. Customs and Immigration Enforcement office of criminal investigations in Houston, confirmed that Houston police had asked for assistance in determining the immigration status of the gunman shot to death in a drug store parking lot after officer Henry Canales, 42, was fatally wounded.
Just another illegal immigrant, coming to the United States seeking a better life for himself. And to kill the police officers that Americans are too lazy to kill themselves.
Our government has massively failed to protect our borders from illegal entry by criminals, thugs, drugs, human trafficking, and other assorted degenerates.
The only good thing about this story? The gunman — Roberto Pedroza-Carrillo — was killed.
Otherwise US tax payers would have to foot the bill to try him and incarcerate him for the 12-18 years it would take for him to eventually be executed. At which point, the Mexican consulate would throw a hissy-fit about executing their citizens.
Since Houston Mayor Bill White (D) has declared Houston to be an official Sanctuary City, the blood of Officer Canales is on his hands. I hope he sleeps well at night knowing that.

The Mayor has thrown his hat into the ring for an ass-whuppin’ as Governor.
This and his sanctuary city BS will most assuredly be brought up.
I HEAR YOUR DISCONTENDTMENT. WE NEED TO FORM TOGETHER AND TALK WITH THE ELECTED PEOPLE AND HAVE THESE ISSUES ADDRESSED PRIOR TO PEOPLE PICKING UP ARMS. MY NEIGHBORHOOD IS IN SHAMBLES DUE TO THE LAZY MEXICANS THAT DO NOT CARE OR RESPECT THE AMERICAN LAWS OR OUR PEOPLE.
I can’t go that far Robbie; illegal immigration is a FAR more complicated issue than that.
what a shitbird
I don’t think it’s all that complicated at all Mark. Our government has failed at it’s primary role — to protect its borders and its citizens.
yeah, they violated federal law, are here ILLEGALLY, and commit crimes, drain our tax money through free medical care, school lunch and supplies, and special teachers to teach to them in a foreign language. where the fuck is the complication??? in liberal minded fucks that think it’s ok.
And how would you have them do that? Do you have any idea of the cost of building a fence spanning 2000+ miles? A fence that will not work. Or the economic costs involved in crashing the home building market because something like 80% of the concrete finishers and a similar number of sheet rockers are illegals? Just as a quick example.
There are NO simple social problems, the minute you believe there are is the moment you have failed. The problem is simple solutions to complex problems are so darned attractive.
SO, YOU ARE SAYING THAT ILLEGALS ARE HIRED TO BUILD THIS WALL. AND WHO HAS BROKEN THE LAW TO HIRE THEM? ILLEGALS CAN NOT GET DRIVER’S LICENSES, OWN PROPERTY OR RENT. BUT THEY LIVE, WORK, DRIVE EVERY WHERE.
a fence, and land mines, orders to shoot in a specified zone, aggressive deportation. it would all be cheaper than all of the above, not to mention all the uninsured motorists, etc.
and i’m not just talking about the southern border. the influx of arms and hostiles coming in from the north is just as bad. i’m not armchair quarterbacking… i was a border officer and lived it. i can’t begin to explain to you here what is really going on regarding the borders
Kurt, how are you going to identify the MILLIONS of them here now, separate them from the legal 1st and 2d generation Americans who live in the same communities, then bus them back, only to have TONS of fruits and vegetables go unpicked in the fields, homes go unbuilt and a million other jobs we depend on having done everyday?
It maybe desirable to try to seal our borders one day, but it will be frightfully expensive and it dang sure is not simple!
Kurt often the view on the ground is vastly different than from a national policy perspective. While at the local, guy on the ground level, your simple solution looks attractive, from a national or international perspective it quickly losses its shine and its simplicity.
As an officer in the Army I made many decisions that my guys would have made differently from their level, but after I explained my decision (when I could) usually they understood or even reluctantly agreed.
I’m not talking about rounding anyone up. Any time an illegal is arrested without documentation send them back. The attrition of un-productive and outlaw minded people returned to where they are from will work. The good productive people will remain.
I love the Mexican culture and have wonderful friends in it. However if a child or adult has no documentation, I do not believe they should draw social security, have free education, or be eligible for any programs involving our tax money that I as a homeowner have to pay for.
I thought we were talking about… never mind. Pissin in the wind… bettin on a losing friend…
Kurt, I don’t pretend to have all the answers, I only know that when someone throws out a solution there WILL be unintended consequences to that solution.
Having said that, sending folks back who are arrested is easy, as long as their home country wants them; but not treating people who are ill, especially children, is probably not something we want to be known for (at least I don’t). If we aren’t going to send ALL of them back (see above) then aren’t we better off educating them so they can be a more productive part of society?
Robbie, I look forward to your posts. If anything they lead to great debates; keep them coming.
On this one I would have to agree with you: Bill White has to take some of the blame.
This country will continue heading the wrong direction if we don’t take a hard look at how we are going to handle the immigration problem. Mark is right this is not easy issue to solve but that is because we have sat on our ass and done nothing for year. We need to start electing politicians that give a shit and just maybe they will start doing there jobs and get these illegal immigrants out of our country.
Donald, the funniest part is that Robbie threw a hand grenade on the floor then walked out the door! Kurt and I were the first to volunteer to jump on it and I’m sure Robbie will come back later to read the responses and laugh himself silly. LOL
I agree with Kurt and Robbie. I think one of the first steps would be to change the law so that in order to be a citizen here, one of your parents must be a legal citizen. I don’t think you should be counted as a citizen just because you were born on American soil.
If you are here illegally, you shouldn’t be able to take advantage of services provided by tax-payers. That would keep a lot of people from crossing our borders if they new they weren’t going to get a free ride. If we quit handing out free rides, a lot of them would quit coming anyway.
Also, daily deportation of illegals would lessen the crowded jails, which means the money for upkeep and food/clothing that is provided there.
Seriously Mark, you think home-building would stop if we lost the illegal Mexicans? There are plenty of people here legally who would love to take over that work.
Yep, agree completely with you about anchor babies. It’s one of two things I would change in our Constitution (the other being term limits for Congress).
Yes! Term limits for Congress!
Rachelle, home building would SLAM to a stop for at least 6 months while we began to train new workers (at a higher cost of labor); then building might slowly bounce back, but might not ever recover fully, because with the higher labor costs not as many people could afford to own housing. This would cause fewer people to have more money.
As to the question of citizenship, I can not in good conscience punish a child for the mistake of the parent no matter what they have done You would subject the child to being a child without a country, largely unable to obtain citizenship anywhere.
I prefer this position as my default: “Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”
send them back so it will open jobs for american that can’t get work
As to term limits, while I am not necessarily abject to them; there are a number of challenges we would have to overcome.
1. The first being it would limit who people could vote into office. What if I like my Senator who has been there for two terms and I want to vote for them again?
2. Along the same note, Senators (and H of Rs) amass influence and power largely based upon how long they have been there, so the states rights crowd is likely not going to agree with taking away their biggest voice at the national level.
3. The nation NEEDS the bureaucracy in DC (or at the state level) for a number of reasons and having a continuous overturn of personnel would certainly provide its own challenges.
4. It takes a certain amount of time to learn any job and politician and policy maker are no different. Just about the time you figure out the rules, you are gone. We can’t afford to hamstring the government in that way at a time when the world (and its decisions) are moving ever quicker.
Ok I’m back from the f’in VA where I went to have my combat injury pawned over. Yeah, I get two hundred bucks a month for combat disability but I can’t get healthcare, or a free ride for my kids even though I pay thousands a year in property taxes. Oh wait, I don’t qualify because I PAY THOUSANDS A YEAR IN PORPERTY TAXES!!!
I won’t condone a door to door gestapo sweep, but I will support mass deportation. It’s not my fault I don’t support healthcare for the law violating millions that suck it dry. Go back to your socialist country or whatever if you want healthcare… don’t take my handout that i’m forced to give.
Screw the housing industry, there are enough houses sitting vacant right now that are unfilled. It will give the 7% unemployed at least an offer of employment.
Take a look at the statistics of mass deportation, industry, and a big ass fence versus being sucked dry by law breaking illegals. Yes this country is in shambles but only because people that have viewpoints similar to yours have been allowed to make laws or more, allowed laws not to be enforced and people and government sued due to like issues.
If patriots like me, Robbie, Rachelle, and others took back our country, it would be THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.
Kurt, I will debate these and other policy issues with you till the cows come home. I will do it in a polite and respectful manner.
I do however suggest you go back to the rally point, and get yourself squared away. I am a 20 year vet myself with a combat tour under my belt and carry the scar where I had neck surgery to repair my injuries. I risked coming home a quadriplegic to continue to serve my soldiers until forced to come home. Do NOT for one minute believe that you are more patriotic than I.
I write what I do because I hold a Masters degree partly in Political Science (specifically Public Policy). I see more than one side to an issue and recognize these issue are not as simple as you would like to believe.
I never intended to snub you regarding our country. I feel there is a difference however in patriotism and being a patriot. I meant no disrespect to you in any way regarding that.
I accept your apology; your list of patriots did not include my name and seemed to make it clear that because I hold the positions I do, I was somehow being unpatriotic. If I misunderstood your intent I apologize as well. Allow me to say I do enjoy these policy debates very much!
I have roughly two semesters before I start grad school. My major too is Human Services/Psychology.
I have been assaulted semester by semester by liberal professors teaching a liberal agenda, all the while telling me that the way I believe is wrong. Honest to God I had a class on multiculturalism that taught me that everything wrong with this nation is the fault of White men.
It is in black and white I shit you not… a semester of it. It’s just the arguements you’ve put forth here go hand in hand with the agenda I’ve been studying and I just cannot understand it, even given the arguements and reasons. I teach bilingual and english as a secondary language, and everything else as a sub. I leave my feelings of these issues at home and when I walk into a classroom each and every child in there is my child. Then I go home and am floored at the injustice and political agenda that I’ve been faced with during the day. It isn’t the kids faults.
I do blame the stinking parents because a majority of my children only get the meal they get at school for their parents are such pieces of xxxx that they don’t feed them. The Americans will feed you when you go to school. I ask sometimes what my kids had for dinner last night, and way too many of them say nothing, I eat at school. Where is the problem here?
Mark I think your talking point of “jobs Americans won’t do”, such as fruit pickers and construction workers is a myth.
I don’t believe there is such as thing as “jobs Americans don’t want to do/won’t do/are too lazy to do”.
Ask coal miners in WV about that. Or oil field workers. Or the merchant marines who live on tow-boats (I was one of them).
It’s not that Americans don’t want to do landscaping anymore; it’s just that in heavily trafficked illegal immigrant environments, it doesn’t pay well enough anymore.
If we open the door to more illegal workers, wages will only decrease further in the jobs heavily favored by illegal immigrant workers.
heh, i was a tugboater too
Its funny (not hah, ha) that you have this experience as my wife teaches teachers technology and I have taught from K to University. We cry and get pissed at those same parents all the time.
I will say that my biggest challenge was with families that have lived here for GENERATIONS and are white as rice. As someone who is working on a PhD all I can suggest to you is to try to keep an open mind to the arguments you hear.
The way we get better as individuals, and nations, is to take constructive criticisms and do something about it. Our nation is the best and most free the world has ever known and it is for that very reason I know we have the capacity for so much more.
Small world. I worked as a US Coast Guard Merchant Marine certified Tankerman (Grade B) for Coastal Towing (Houston) working inland black oil barges. Also briefly worked for Moran Towing on sea-going black oil barges in the Atlantic.
Dangerous, physically demanding, low paying, long hours…but I got to work outdoors and got to see some cool things.
Robbie, I believe Americans MIGHT do those jobs, but not at the salaries they currently pay. Raising the pay for those jobs means the costs of those goods and services will go up and some cases may not be available until we train people to take over those jobs.
My only heartbreak with the white kids are the abused ones, and there are way too many of them. I’m still a rookie pretty much… I can tell you though that I had eleven students one day that I had gone to school with all their parents!!! Most behaved set of kids I ever had! So, kid wise I think we’re on the same page.
That’s awesome of having your classmates kids! LOL In New Caney I had 140 students and NOT ONE set of parents showed up on Parent Teacher night! I don’t think I had 10 non white kids in my classes and I don’t think I had any that were illegals. (Never quite know for sure though).
I do know that right before we deployed to the sand box I helped one of my soldiers get his citizenship and watched him say the pledge for the first time as a citizen. One of my very coolest moments as a soldier.
It’s not that hard. You stop creating benefits that attract illegals to come here. You crack down on illegal hirings. While the states are required to provide free education and some medical care, they don’t have to provide education beyond h.s., and emergency health care. They don’t have to provide housing. They don’t have to provide sanctuary. And yeah, a fence does work. Claiming that because some people can get through makes it a failure is dishonest. I don’t know how much Texas spends a year on illegal aliens, but Calif spends about 14 billion dollars a year — that will pay for any fence.
When you allow a flood of illegal labor in, they force wages to go down. In the pass 20 years, the quality of life in my state has gone down into the toilet. So, don’t tell me unchecked illegal immigration from Mexico and central America is good for this country.
THANK YOU.. DELAWARE HAS GONE DOWN HILL TOO. MEXICANS DO NOT GIVE A RAT’S ASS ABOUT RESPECTING THE LAND OR THE PEOPLE WHO “HOST” THEM. WE HAVE POLICE RAIDS HERE IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD CONSTANTLY WITH DEPORTATION AS THE CONSEQUENCE. BUT, PEOPLE REAPPEAR 2 HOUSES DOWN, OR DRIVE A DIFFERENT CAR. THEN DISAPPEAR THEN THEY COME BACK. IT’S A CIRCLE AND A JOKE.
This thread is about a police officer that was murdered by an illegal alien. And all some of you weenies can do is argue for more illegal aliens to be allowed to enter and/or stay into the country.
Mark, I gotta tell ya something. If employers were held responsible for employing illegals, the problem would solve itself in short order. If Americans were responsible and followed the rule of law, the problem would solve itself. If all the illegals headed back across the border tomorrow, they would be replaced by labor they forced out of the market to begin with, ya wanna know how to tape and float? I can show you, I just can’t show you for five bucks an hour.
As for your moral indignation and your showing your credentials, I think it is offensive you claim service and medals and wounds in order to argue for illegals. I did not get injured in my time. Am I less able to claim moral high-ground. Are my arguments for the rule of law less viable?
So Mark, what you are saying is that you condone the cheap labor rates that having illegal aliens can command. I think you would be surprised at the number of Americans who have skills such as being able to hammer a nail, cut a piece of wood or lay tile. They are just undercut by illegals who work for $5 hr because they don’t pay taxes and get to take the cash and send it back to Mexico where it is spent, thus bypassing the sales tax that we could be generating here.
Builders have a 30 – 40% profit margin on the houses they build, largely in part due to the cheap labor they are able to get. How else do you think they are able to build so many houses and have them sit empty for months at a time? If they had to pay a decent wage, they would still build they houses but they would also have to keep the price down or no one would be able to buy them. So, wah, maybe their profit margin drops to 25%. My family has been in the residential construction business for over 35 years.
As far as having children without a country…what? I’m pretty sure they would be citizens of the same country that their parents came here illegally from. I think a lot of them would stop coming if they new there kids would not automatically be citizens just because they managed to get across the border in time, which is the whole point of the argument for changing the law.
As for your quote, “Give me your tired…” you are now talking about the US citizens who are tired of working their butts off and are yearning to be free from over-burdening taxes which are sending them to the poor house and making it increasingly difficult for them to afford any door, much less a golden one but see all of their hard work going to support those who have never done anything.
When Pete was laid off, his kid was denied CHiP coverage for his son because he had made too much money. He is still in the National Guard and has one more year to go before he reaches his 20. He was permanently injured.
While in Iraq and yet has to wait for months at a time to get a doctor’s appointment then go all the way up to Temple for it. I am completely against government health insurance or whatever socialist program Obama has got up his sleeve.
According to the news, under Obama’s plan, health care benefits are going to be taxed for those who receive them. So, some people will not be able to afford the tax and not take the job-offered insurance. Which means they will probably go on the governments insurance, which means that the taxes for job-offered programs will probably go up, which means that more people will be unable to afford it…anyone see the pattern here?
Okay, I think I am done for now. I need to get to the gym so I can try to stay healthy so I don’t die before the six month wait for the doctor is up now that we have a socialist health care system.
Rachelle, you have made several great points in your posts — and you summarize my beliefs on this issue quite nicely.
