UPDATE: He’s dead.

__________

I accidentally deleted a really good (and somewhat long) post on tomorrow’s execution of Terry Lee Hankins here in Texas (the only execution here in Texas for the entire month of June).

Bottom line? Hankin is one of the most vile pieces of shit living on death row (though for not much longer). He killed 5 members of his own family.

On August 26, 2001, Hankins shot his wife Tammy (34) in the head while she was sleeping. He also shot his two step-children (12 and 10) in their heads while they were sleeping. When he was arrested, he told investigators where they could find the bodies of his father, who he shot in the face back in 2000 (the body was still sitting in the recliner where Hankins shot him ten months earlier) and the body of his half-sister, who he beat to death with a car jack.

He also admitted that he was raping his mentally retarded half-sister, who already had given birth to one of his children and was pregnant with another one.

In case that doesn’t sound vile enough, he also admits that he “might have had sex” with the dead bodies of both his wife and half-sister.

His motive? He didn’t have one outside of the “I had a hard childhood…blah, blah, blah…” one (he was allegedly molested by both of his step-mothers as children).

During the crime scene investigation, police found an insufficient-funds notice addressed to Hankins and a bank envelope, on which handwritten notes read:

“So this is how it all ends. Well, at least I took several bad people w/me. I guess my only regret is that I – that I’ll not be able to love and take care of Barbara the way she really deserves. She’s really one of the few really good people I have ever met and I do love her. I just hope when she learns of everything I have done, it doesn’t destroy her. She is the best thing that could have ever happened to me. I just found her too late. My life has already been messed up. What everyone else didn’t do, I pretty much destroyed myself.” and “I guess to sum it all up, I’m guilty of murder, incest, hatred, fraud, theft, jealousy, envy.”

The Death Penalty couldn’t be used against a more deserving guy.

You can read much more over at Georgette’s World. Georgette is a Brazilian jiu jitsu sponsored fighter, and also works as a prosecutor for the Texas Attorney General here in Austin, exclusively representing the state in federal habeas.

Here’s what she had to say about Hankins:

So often at cocktail parties and such I get asked the standard “So what do you do?” question. Depending on the audience I will be forthcoming to various degrees, anywhere from “I’m a lawyer” to “I kill people.” If we go all the way to the death penalty thing, I usually end up telling the story of Mr. Hankins because he’s my best example of the kind of person who deserves the death penalty.

She is instantly one of my favorite new bloggers.

  1. He’s pining for the fjords.

  2. Damn! She made her blog private. I use to read it all the time.

  3. I am astonished that knowing he addmitted these crimes and the sick violent nature of them that people STILL protested because it was the 200th. Tells me that they must have been there visiting family members as well.

Wish I could get an update on Rogelio Cannady. Nothing has been mentioned since his Stay in November 2008.

  4. [...] in Huntsville, as there is only one execution scheduled for the entire month of July (after only 1 in June and only one scheduled for August [David [...]
