Democrats: Too Good to Enroll in the Same Shitty Health Care Plan They Want to Force On the Rest of Us

Congress should be made to live with and by all of the pathetic legislation they heap on the rest of us, but write exclusions for themselves:

In the health debate, liberals sing Hari Krishnas to the “public option” — a new federal insurance program like Medicare — but if it’s good enough for the middle class, then surely it’s good enough for the political class too? As it happens, more than a few Democrats disagree.

On Tuesday, the Senate health committee voted 12-11 in favor of a two-page amendment courtesy of Republican Tom Coburn that would require all Members and their staffs to enroll in any new government-run health plan. Yet all Democrats — with the exceptions of acting chairman Chris Dodd, Barbara Mikulski and Ted Kennedy via proxy — voted nay.

In other words, Sherrod Brown and Sheldon Whitehouse won’t themselves join a plan that “will offer benefits that are as good as those available through private insurance plans — or better,” as the Ohio and Rhode Island liberals put it in a recent op-ed. And even a self-described socialist like Vermont’s Bernie Sanders, who supports a government-only system, wouldn’t sign himself up.

Call your Representative and your Senator, and ask them to commit to enrolling in the public option (and only the public option) if it passes. If they won’t ask them why not. Then beat them over the head with that answer.

In fact, making the members of Congress live with the same POS health plan they’re trying to force on the poor pissants beneath them is just a start. As Glenn Reynolds suggests:

Hey, how about a constitutional amendment requiring that members of Congress always pay the highest marginal rate. . .

  1. Fuck Congress. Every last one of those motherfuckers.

  2. The republicans in the House and Senate should beat this drum until the final vote. Fat-ass Ted Kennedy would be dead now if we were on government run health care-and he knows it!

  3. It is a shame that some Americans are so gullible, to the outlandish propaganda and lies spat in the newspapers, television and radio about Obama’s health care agenda. They have demonized the British, Canadian and other worthy plans. Hidden under a disguise cover, these radical entities are determined to keep the special interest organizations in absolute power. Comprising of the money-draining profitable insurance companies and their rich stockholders. They don’t want any changes to the broken system of medical care, because it will hurt the status quo. I was born in England, in the county of Sussex and until the inception of the European Union and the European Parliament dictating to Britain. That they must accept millions of foreign workers, the nations medical system was exemplary. I never had to wonder if I would have to file bankruptcy, to pay my medical bills, or listen to the incessant ring of debt collectors on the phone.

On several occasions I ended up in the cottage hospital and their was never a cost applied to it, never a ream of paperwork. Incidentally, I choose my own doctor where I Lived. The longest I waited for surgery was three months, as it was not an emergency. No doctor, no hospital or specialist asking me for my Social Security number, drivers license or if I was covered by a predatory for-profit insurer. No premiums, no-cops and pre-existing condition clauses. Yes! Didn’t have a private room, but who cares? Today the British Isles is being submerged under a barrage of legal and illegal immigrants, who have never paid into the system, have caused some rationing. Prior to the importation of foreign labor my trips to doctor, to hospital, the eye or a dentist was paid from my taxation. Unless we pass a national health care agenda, Americans will never know what it’s like to breeze through their lives, without worrying about paying for health care? Tell your Senators and Congressman you want an alternative to the–GET RICH– insurance companies, before a Universal health care is killed. 202-224-312 REMEMBER THE INVESTORS AND STOCKHOLDERS DON’T WANT THEIR PIECE OF THE $$$TRILLION$$$ DOLLAR PIE DISTURBED. EVEN SOME POLITICIANS HAVE THEIR DIRTY FINGERS IN THE PIE?

AS AN ALTERNATIVE TO THE PRIVATE HEALTH CARE, A GOVERNMENT SINGLE PAYER SYSTEM WILL ASSIST IN REVITALIZING THE WILTING US ECONOMY.

    • Uh huh.

So what you’re saying then, is that you agree with me that Congress should enroll is this totally awesome public option too, and fore go their exceptional private and world-class health care.

    • No thanks, Brittanica.
Our system isn’t broken, it just needs to have the cost contained, and ObamaCare isn’t going to do that.
It’s when health care is free, is when it becomes unaffordable.
The nonsensical plan being promoted by B-HO is as absurd as he is.
As for your description of your encounters with NHS, perhaps it’s true, but it contradicts most of the reports I read about it from the Brit newspapers.

    • Our system is not broken. 85% of people polled are happy with the insurance they have.

We have a small percentage of people who are un-insuranced because:

      * they are too cheap to buy it
      * they are illegal aliens
      * they are already covered under programs but have not enrolled
are between jobs and will have insurance when their new job starts.

You seem to be under some sort of delusion that your healthcare is free. How silly.

I have heard and read emails from people in Canada and the UK for the past few years, complaining about delays, complaining about delays that resulted in a disability, complaining that they have to come to the US for surgery and pay for it themselves because it is not covered under your NHI, while here, it would be.

You don’t have a clue as to what you are talking about, so, piss off.

    • Oh yes, the British economy is just so robust and healthy…what a load!

  4. P.S.: Brit, if national healthcare is so wonderful, how come our politicians have made themselves exempt? That is the subject of this thread.

  5. AMERICA’S NATIONAL HEALTHCARE EMERGENCY!

It’s official. America and the World are now in a GLOBAL PANDEMIC. A World EPIDEMIC with potential catastrophic consequences for ALL of the American people. The first PANDEMIC in 41 years. And WE THE PEOPLE OF THE UNITED STATES will have to face this PANDEMIC with the 37th worst quality of healthcare in the developed World.

[Editor's Note: The rest of your long Liberal-talking points cut-and-paste job was deleted. I don't have to, nor am I going to allow my blog space to be used to advocate for Liberal policies.]

    • Looking forward to your death in the upcoming Second American Revolution. The tree of liberty sometimes needs to be watered with the blood of patriots, and a lot of blood from douchebags.

  6. THE BATTLE OF GOOD Vs EVIL!

No, the battle of the sane (us) vs. the nutjobs (you).

Got to love it. Most Americans don’t want this but the leftards are complaining that it is not radical enough.

  7. We have a tendency in America to argue for or against a concept based on our own personal philosophy or view of the world, what advances our personal interests, or the interests of our party, family, organization, or region. Perhaps viewing the issue from a management or systemic perspective might result in innovative approaches to the issue. The American national mindset, citizen philosophy, lack of citizen motivation to be proactively healthy, and governance model make the socialization of health care in America very problematic, particularly at this point in time. A country needs to know its limitations.

  8. We already know the managment perspective resulting in innovative approach. Why on earth would the majority of people who are happy with their healthcare give it up for rationed healthcare, long wait lists to see a doctor if they even let you see a doctor, and to add insult to injury raised taxes to pay for it?

  9. I am trying to locate exactly which members of Congress squashed the measure to include Congress in the public plan. Anyone know where to find a list?

  10. I’d love to see Congress accept the same crap they want to throw at us. Why don’t they offer us the same plan they have? The one they refuse to give up for the one they insist we accept? Private insurance can offer the plans and compete on price for the millions of potental customers.
