6 people shot at event to honor local rapper at historically black college Texas Southern University
An event with a rapper? And gun violence breaks out? Feign surprise.
Six people were shot Wednesday night, none fatally, on the Texas Southern University campus during an event recognizing a Houston area rapper, school and police officials said.
[snip]
“We heard some gunshots and everybody was hitting the ground,” he said. He doesn’t know exactly what happened, but apparently a round hit a tire of his Lexus. TSU police removed the tire for inspection.
He called the shooting “an unfortunate incident. This is an isolated incident, hopefully it won’t happen again.”
An isolated incident? Uh huh. Yep. I think this is the first time violence has ever broken out at a rap concert or event.
I’m looking and trying to find incidents of rednecks doing drive by shootings from their Ford F-150s during country music concerts, and can’t seem to find any reports of this happening…
Though, while Googling “drive by shooting at country music concert”, one of the first hits was from this New Jersey blog:
But on Sunday night, some fool with a gun changed that. Outside the historic Robert Treat Hotel, three people were shot in some kind of spillover incident from a rap show held inside the hotel’s large ballroom.
The comments section contained this nuggest of truth:
Rap’s bad rap is well deserved, look at most artists lyrics and the lifestyle they promote. Then look at those who promote the worst, and the worst comes to their doorstep..
The thug culture promoted by many rappers, plus the continued growth of gangs (and the associated gang culture) is killing our black communities. Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee was at the event at TSU, but so far has not issued a statement, nor condemned the black-on-black violence in her district.
But had HPD been involved, you can bet your ass that she’d still be on television right now denouncing the violence…
