Another failed celebrity marriage. Feign surprise.

35-year old Nasir bin Olu Dara Jones (Nas) and his ex, 29-year old Kelis Jones (nee Rogers): Two people I have never heard of.

Apparently they’re rappers, or hip-hop artists, or R&B singers of some note.

Anyhow…after being married for a grand-total of 4 years they’re getting a divorce (irreconcilable differences), but only after bringing another black baby into the world that will grow up without its father (as of 2005, 69.5 % of all black children are born to single black mothers, compared to only 25.4% of white children).

But at least he won’t grow up without his father’s money:

A judge has ordered Nas to pay Kelis nearly $40,000 in monthly support for the near future, a day after the “Milkshake” singer gave birth to the divorcing couple’s baby boy.

Rogers will receive $30,471 in spousal support per month; the couple’s son will receive $9,027, according to the court records.

I cannot tell you how idiotic I think alimony laws like this are. There is no way, no how this women deserves $40K a month (that’s $480K per year) of this man’s hard-earned money. She did nothing to deserve it other than spread her legs and put up with his shit for 5 years.

Sounds harsh? Perhaps. But them’s the facts.

And how do they justify such a large sum of money to a woman who earns her own nice checks as a successful R&B singer?

Meisinger (Kelis’ lawyer] rejected that offer, saying more money per month would be needed to accommodate Rogers’ lifestyle and was warranted based on income declarations filed with the court.

To accommodate her lifestyle. Well, me thinks the woman needs to learn to scale back her lifestyle a bit.

To all you rich celebrities out there: it’s called a pre-nup. And you’re an idiot if you don’t have one.
