I live in Los Angeles now, and although I only consumed information about the service passively, it’s actually been really quiet. Oddly enough, the service actually made traffic LESS of a hassle for me…his funeral was at Forest Lawn, just north of my apartment, and the memorial service was at Staples….which means all the traffic in West Hollywood got sucked to those two locations…cut my commute to Beverly Hills in half.
Interestingly enough, when I got back from lunch, the street outside my office was jammed with news vans and people…apparently the Beverly Wilshire Hotel across the street was hosting some sort of private function for the Jackson family, and the gawkers were out, predictably. Still, this was all over in about half an hour, and I had no trouble getting around.
I don’t know what Jackson did or didn’t do. Frankly, the only people who ever will are himself, the alleged victims, and God (if he exists). His name was cleared twice by our justice system, so take that for what it’s worth…regardless, the man was still a legendary performer, one of, if not THE greatest of all time, and I sure as hell blasted some Jackson on my way home.
Oh, and as for the “wanting to look like a white woman” comment, it’s well-known that he’s been suffering from vitiligo. Yeah, the steps he took to “touch it up” were garish, why fault him for his disease? Sheesh.
I’m suprised to see that no mention of the passing of Robert McNamara. A true American, a brilliant administrator, and probably one of the smartest people to ever grace the earth.
McNamara was an idiot and a piece of shit of a human. The day he died, I turned to the gentleman who sits next to me at work, a retired Marine who served several tours in Vietnam and a damned-fine American, and his response was, “Good.”
‘Nuff said for me.
Why do you feel that way?
