Small Town Texas: Spicewood’s July 4th Parade

Happy birthday to our great nation; the greatest nation ever in the history of this planet.

My wife and I decided to head out into the Texas Hill Country to spend the Holiday with the best people in our nation: small town Texans.

I’ve often said if you ever start thinking patriotism is dead, then you should spend some time in Small Town, Texas. Like the folks of Spicewood, Texas (pop. 5000) for their first ever July 4th parade (the town only had about 100 residents up until about 1990, so they’ve never really been big enough for their own parade).

We were honored to walk in the parade as part of the Great Dane group…about 10 Great Danes joined together to walk in the parade this morning.

Here are just a few pics that I snapped this morning:

This kid was veyr proud of the basket he helped his dad make for his totally badass Tony Hawk bicycle.

The local Boy Scouts led off the parade, which as you can see, is in the middle of nowhere. Which is awesome.

Seriously, have you ever seen anything more genuinly awesome at a July 4th parade?

Small town parades...you gotta love when they let the children drive the fire truck in the parade

What southern parade isn't complete without Civil War re-enactment riders (replete with Confederate flag)?

  1. I spent 20 years celebrating Independence Day in Small Town, KS. A friend hosted the celebration, complete with class 3 explosives (all properly permited). God bless our great nation as HE has for over 200 years!
