Matt Taibbi Mourns the Death of Obamacare

Matt Taibbi mourns the death of ObamacareIf you search my blog for posts o Matt Taibbi, you’ll see that I’m not a big fan. He’s got a piece today on his blog (not on Rolling Stone) about the death of the current health care bill.

He’s right about this:

The reason a real health-care bill is not going to get passed is simple: because nobody in Washington really wants it. There is insufficient political will to get it done.

The reason there is no political will to get this done is because politicians want nothing more than to stay in power. And everybody, to include most Democrats, are hearing from their constituents that they do NOT want government controlled health care.

Where Taibbi is wrong (actually, he’s wrong about almost everything in the post with the exception of what I quoted above):

The situation we have here is an angry and desperate population that at long last has voted in a majority that it believes should be able to pass a health care bill. It expects something to be done.

While it’s true that our nation’s voters have voted in a Democratic majority, it is not true that a majority of Americans support government controlled health care.

While it’s not quite dead yet, it does look like the worst part of the bill, the Public Option, is dead. Good riddance.
