PETA ALERT: Austin company to make synthetic diesel out of animal fat
This is the kind of ethical and moral dilemma that is likely to make Austin-area hippies’ heads explode. Which would not be a big loss:
A company called Dynamic Fuels is building a $138 million factory in Louisiana that will turn animal fat into high-grade synthetic diesel and potentially even jet fuel. The company says it is the first commercial-scale synthetic diesel plant in North America.
[snip]
Austin-based Emerson Process Management has been hired to build a computerized control system to help run the plant in Geismar, La., which is expected to turn out about 75 million gallons of very-low-emission synthetic diesel from chicken, beef and pork fats starting in mid-2010.
Tyson, the largest meat processor in the country, will supply the animal fats.
Hippies want alternative fuels. But they also believe eating meat is murder.
Thought the smell of fried chicken emanating out of the tail pipes of cars would be nice.
Though, I’m highly skeptical of using food sources for fuel. We saw how well that worked out with corn.
