The Kennedy family released this statement:
“We’ve lost the irreplaceable center of our family and joyous light in our lives, but the inspiration of his faith, optimism, and perseverance will live on in our hearts forever,” the Kennedy family said in a statement. “He loved this country and devoted his life to serving it.”
May those who loved Ted Kennedy find some comfort that he is no longer in pain.
I didn’t have a single good thing to say about the man when he was alive, so I’m not going to start just because he’s dead. But I won’t continue to pile it on anymore, either. He’s dead. The evil he’s done on this Earth is over.
Mr. Kennedy will finally answer for and face judgment for the death of Mary Jo Kopechne. Which reminds me of the most obscene things I’ve ever seen written by a “journalist”. Remember this from the Boston Globe:
“If she had lived, Mary Jo Kopechne would be 62 years old. Through his tireless work as a legislator, Edward Kennedy would have brought comfort to her in her old age,” wrote the Globe’s Charles Pierce. The quote was recognized as the worst of the year at the MRC’s DisHonors Awards in 2004.
At least I won’t have watch the news this week…as you know it will be one romanticized revision of Camelot after another. One the plus side is maybe Michael Jackson will finally fall off the front page.
Replacing Ted Kennedy
Massachusetts holds special elections to fill its Senate vacancies. Up until 2004, the Governor filled the vacancy. But, back then, Kennedy was worried that Republican Gov. Mitt Romney would appoint a Republican if Sen. Kerry was elected President, so he fought to change the law to it’s current status. I would imagine that Kennedy had a lot of regrets in his last days…that particular law change had to be chief amongst them.
Massachusetts is strongly Democrat, so Kennedy’s successor most likely will not alter the Senate’s balance of power. However, under the new state law (thanks, Ted), the election can’t take place for at least 145 days, which would leave the Democrats shorthanded and at least one vote short of the magical 60.
__________
OTHERS:
That said, Kennedy was obviously much more than his actions on the worst night of his life. While he could be incredibly partisan, even vitriolically so on some issues, he was almost universally acknowledged even by opponents as an honorable negotiating partner and an outstanding legislator.
There is a time and place for political analysis and criticism. Not now.
Yes, there will be a nauseating excess of MSM hagiographies and lionizations — and crass calls to pass the health care takeover to memorialize his death.
That’s no excuse to demonstrate the same lack of restraint in the other direction. Not now.
Ironically, if Michelle Malkin had passed away today, the entirety of the unhinged Left would be throwing a huge party and debating whether a tango or a samba would be best for dancing on her grave.
The Other McCain is not as broken up about the death as others:
And so I’ve used that line ["Mary Jo Kopechne was unavailable for comment"] for the last time. And the knowledge of that finality is the only sadness I feel about Ted Kennedy’s death.
I note the passing of Ted Kennedy…I’m not about to lionize the man because and the MSM will certainly do that ad nauseum.
I , instead, will remember Mary Jo Kopechne who died of asphyxiation in Ted Kennedy’s car while he struggled to figure out how to beat the charge of vehicular manslaughter.
You won’t find any celebrations of his life on this blog.
Nor on this one.

This Mark Twain quote applies to this news….
“I’ve never killed a man, but I’ve read many an obituary with a great deal of satisfaction”
rOBBIE IS A STUPID BITCH.
This is the best you can come up with? How sad.
I will extend to Ted the same level of dignity the lefturds offered Sen. Jesse Helms when he passed away.
I doubt the Village Voice will run a story line for Ted the Swimmer, like they did for Jesse Helms, but they should.
Jesse Helms Finally Dies.
Rot in HELL Ted Kennedy, you have earned it. You can no longer get away with murder, or with treason.
Your last sentence says it all.
“Rot in HELL Ted Kennedy, you have earned it. You can no longer get away with murder, or treason.
Our wonderful country has been freed at last from the Kennedy plague. May it stay that way.
The Lion…Err Dog of the Senate.
“Teddy Kennedy was the weak kitten in the litter, never able to measure up to his brothers.
The accident at Chappaquiddick displayed his chronic immaturity. One problem Teddy has always had was keeping it in his pants – even when other people are around.”
- Cleo O’Donnell – wife of former Kennedy campaign aide.

Why don’t you right wingnuts drop the hell dead . Do the country a favor and secede already!!!
And Robbie, Ted Kennedy had his faults but he did more for this country then any of you ignorant dumb southerners. You ex-military macho dimwits make me sick!!!
You first, whackjob. Kennedy had more than faults and he did shit for this country. You people who give passes to murderers make me sick.
Elwood — what a small, pathetic little man you must be. The thing that makes me laugh most is knowing that whether it be a battle of wits or a battle of fists — I’d kick your ass up and down the street in either. You know it, and I know it, and it drives you bat-shit crazy.
Elwood,
Could you list just one thing The Swimmer accomplished in his alcohol and lust filled that life that made life better for America?
Just one! It’s not too much to ask for someone as enlightened as you…is it?
This is kind of touching on the Right Wing comment.
My daughter came home the last week one day and the news was on. Ted Kennedy had died and she was telling me that her teacher didn’t like the guy.
After having read Robbies comments about the guy earlier that morning I did some research (as i do with most things you guys talk about so I can educate myself on the topics) and being that I read about this woman he abandoned in a car wreck he caused, surely by drinking too much, and she had died. Finding out he ran home to avoid what I am positive would have been a DUI and manslaughter charge, or whatever. I told my Daughter yeah, he was a POS whose ass was covered by his family name and status, etc.
Since having found this site, reading what topics you guys talk about, I find them very interesting.
Now, I have always just considered myself just Democrat. I am an average Joe American. I believe in what’s right, what’s logical and I believe in the American way as it was written.
I find that everything that Robbie, No2liberals and a few other regulars say, I believe what they believe in 99% of all aspects. I share their beliefs and I agree with their outlook on life and how it should be.
My same Daughter asked me last night what I was. Republican, Democrat or what? I told her I THINK I’m a Rightwing, Right Wing, I dunno.
So now comes my question…. with all this in mind…what am I? What IS Rightwing or however it is put, is it a political position like a Democrat or is it a…well what is it exactly and am I one? LOL
I have never been political but this is changing the older I get. So Robbie, No2liberals? What do you think?
LA Guy — glad to have you along on the common sense train.
I’m not a Republican, either, as the party left me a long time ago. The era of small government, fiscal responsibility, and personal freedoms are long gone from both parties.
I identify myself as a Conservative…I often vote Republican mostly as the lesser of two evils.
L.A. Guy,
I just call myself a conservative.
Over the years I moved around on the political spectrum in terms of which party I allied with. For most of my early adult years I was a donk. I became very uncomfortable with that alliance, as there were still good conservative donks getting elected, but when they went to D.C., they did the bidding of the national donks, which was a very liberal agenda, much of which contradicted my core beliefs. My discomfort grew when, in 1991, someone went to Arkansas, reached down deep into a hog wallow, and pulled something out with a name of William Jefferson Clinton. I didn’t necessarily leave the donk party, they had left me long ago, but I severed all ties.
I had been conditioned for so many years, like so many, by the media’s propaganda, that Republicans were bigoted and mean, so I didn’t consider joining them, though I had voted for Reagan. I looked around, to see what else was available. The main option at the time was Ross Perot, then he went nutz. I couldn’t go along with the Libertarians on legalizing drugs, and a few other ideas, so I was unaligned for a while.
I don’t know exactly how or when it happened, but I think it was talk radio and the many callers to the shows, that began to convince me that all the things so many had said about Republicans was just not true. I aligned with them to defeat cultural and political threats to this great country that the left presents. While I vote GOP, I am a conservative first, and believe that the country we have inherited from so many wonderful people deserves to be preserved, that what it does and has represents, is worth conserving.
I’m glad you have had this opportunity to talk with your daughter. While our children learn from us, we also learn from them. One of my daughters is politically engaged now, and I am reminded that when one becomes a parent, their life changes forever, and our instincts to provide for them, and protect them is a powerful motivator. Her husband, an FBI agent and a veteran of two tours in Iraq and one in Afghanistan, was talking with me about the DHS memo warning about returning veterans being recruited as “right wing” terrorists. He told me that the real “right winger” in his household was my daughter.
It made me proud!
I just read this from Wikipedia:
In politics, right-wing, political right, rightist and the Right are terms used to describe support for preserving traditional or cultural values and customs and maintaining some form of social hierarchy.[1][2][3] The phrase right-wing was coined during the French Revolution, when right-wing referred to seating arrangements in parliament; those who sat on the right supported the monarchy, the aristocracy and the established church.[4][5][6][7]
The concept of a distinct political Right developed after the second restoration of the French monarchy in 1815 with the Ultra-royalists. Today the term the Right is primarily used to refer to political groups that have a historical connection with the traditional Right, including conservatives, reactionaries, monarchists, aristocrats, religious fundamentalists, and some nationalists. But in modern times, the Right has also encompassed views supporting capitalism and free markets, and making the right of private property the paramount right.[8]
So now a comment followed by a question:
I have seen people call yourself and No2liberals “Rightwings.” Obviously meant to insult you all.
In what way is this even CLOSE to being an insult? I find it to be just the opposite! So when people call you this, as Elwood just did, I view that as “Hey Thanks, I appreciate it! But go fuck yourself for the rest of your view point and moronic comments!”
OK! So now I know the proper term for my beliefs and I will tell my Daughter of this when I get home tonight. I love this web site! I learn something almost everyday!
Thank you Robbie!
Sign me this time, “Proud Wingnut!”
