On the day that Sen. Ted Kennedy died earlier this week, I went home and lowered my US Flag to half mast, in accordance with The United States Flag Code, which is Section 1 of Title 4 of the United States Code.
The relevant section is in Section 7(m), which defines when a US Flag is supposed to be flown at half mast: “…and on the day of death and the following day for a Member of Congress.“
US Senator Ted Kennedy died on Tuesday, August 25. I flew our US Flag at half mast on Tuesday and on Wednesday accordingly.
However, driving to work this morning, I noticed that most buildings and offices still have their US Flags at half mast.
Kennedy has been given his proper due. Now it’s time to raise those US Flags back to their full and rightful glory.

Strange, I doubt you’d strictly abiding by that rule if Mitch McConnell were to die tomorrow. Regardless, the Presidential decree ordered that all flags above government buildings flown at half-mast until August 30.
I fly my flag at all times in accordance with the US Flag Code. As much as I despise Kennedy, I still flew my flag at half mast.
I’ll bet you dimes to nickles that you’d be hard pressed to find too many Liberals who will do the same when President Bush or VP Cheney passes. Of course, so few Liberals fly a US Flag to begin with (way too nationalistic and jingoistic for their progressive sensibilities).
Just curious, since you fly your flag in accordance with the US Flag Code, how many days was your flag lowered following 9/11 and the VA Tech shootings?
Don’t know the flag code like you do, Robbie, but I was deeply offended to see Old Glory at half mast for the traitorous commie from Mass.
Then to see our state flag lowered as well for this pig swill of a man, was infuriating.
Besides being one commie rat bastid, he reveled in his ability to get away with murder.
One of his favorite topics of humor was Chappaquiddick.
I hear ya. I wasn’t honoring Teddy. I was honoring our Flag and its code.
Presidential Orders supercede any Codes.
If you follow the codes you have to follow the rules that call for lawful changes in the codes.
Like a presendtial order or decree stating that a flag should fly at half-staff (not half-mast as you state, though they can be interchanged, half-staff is the term used in the code).
When I performed color-guard duty in the US Army, we had to follow the presidential order regardless of the code.
Just saying.
