Abandoning a sinking ship: “The boss hears from two sources that Hillary Clinton is considering stepping down as Secretary of State this fall in order to run for Governor of New York”
Hillary was completely neutered by Obama when he appointed her to Secretary of State. She had infinitely more power and prestige as a Senator. Obama knew this, and wanted her under his thumb.
But now that the S.S. Obama is sinking faster than a Cuban homemade raft, Hillary might be thinking about abandoning ship.
Can’t hardly say I blame her.

I am constantly amazed at how fast rumors become viral on the internet.
The Weekly Standard, hardly a friend to the Clintons, puts up a one-sentence post that is based on not one single named source and which purports to claim that Hillary will quit (and she’s not quitter) her job as SOS (a job she stated she loves), to become Gov. of NY (a job she’s never stated she wanted) b/c she allegedly has no power or voice in the administration (a claim she herself has rebutted), and everyone in the blogosphere is repeating this as though it’s some sort of prophetic vision.
And who, exactly, is the “boss” Goldfarb is referring to? William Kristol? Yeah, whatever. The guy who is wrong about EVERYTHING?
Next…
Uh, didn’t Hillary “quit” her job as Senator to be SoS?
Robbie- if leaving one’s job after being asked to serve in an administration is quitting,in the usual sense of the word, then I guess every person who has ever worked in any democratic or republican administration going back to the very beginning of this country, is a quitter. Sure, she could have said “no, I’m the Senator from NY and need to finish that out” but she didn’t. And the fact is, that most times an office-holder is asked to serve their country in a presidential administration, they do w/o being called a “quitter”.
I honestly don’t see her just saying “to hell with this” and taking her ball and going home, I really don’t.
I have no idea whether she plans to leave or not. However, you are extremely naive if you thing that she would not quit if it was in her interest or that because she “rebutted” an allegation that it isn’t true. You really think she is going to go on record that the job sucks, that the adminsitration has undermined her at every turn, and that Obama is an ahole – even though it is all true?
I understand that if Hillary were unhappy, she wouldn’t go around yelling it from the rooftops but I think people don’t give her enough credit- she *knew* what being SOS entailed and she understood after living in the WH with a President, that the POTUS is the ultimate “decider”- she spoke about this quite eloquently during her Meet the Press interview.
Also, all of this is based on a one sentence blog post on the Weekly Standard- hardly something one should really take and run with. And perhaps it’s a bit naive to think that perhaps the Weekly Standard doesn’t have a political agenda by throwing this little juicy morsel out there into the blogosphere?
I just think when a rumor like this goes viral it’s a bit irresponsible and it starts to look more like people are either a) projecting their own feelings about Obama onto Hillary and/or b) trying to create a controversy where none exists. It’s almost as though some people, including the media, are a bit disappointed that Hillary and Obama may actually be getting along and working well together. You know, since they are grown-ups and all.
On my blog, I follow almost every single thing the Secretary of State does and I don’t see any evidence of this unbelievable anger and unhappiness that she seems to harbor deep down inside. Is it really such a terrible thing if she actually likes her job as SOS, because she’s extremely effective at it- anyone who has watched the reception she gets when she travels overseas knows that of anyone in the administration, she’s probably the best to be out there delivering the foreign policy message.
I wish Hillary were POTUS right now, but it really doesn’t help her out to have to deal with these rumors and distractions. At least that’s my opinion.
Who you trying to defend? Obama or Clinton? There is nothing wrong with Clinton leaving. Why are YOU trying to make it personal as to her?
And no, she is not extremely effective at her job. Israel can’t stand this administration and she has done nothing to change their view.
These b.s. threats by her that Jews can’t live in a house that they were run out of in 1929 due to arab violence and which was lawfully purchased by the true owners from the squatters in 2008 just to get the damn thing back is nuts.
It’s also insane for her to issue empty threats about Israelis building on land they lawfully purchased in the center of Jerusalem.
And what the hell do you mean “it really doesn’t help her out to have to deal with these rumors and distractions”? If it is having that sort of effect on her it sounds as if it is true. If not, she should be able to walk and chew gum at the same time. Apparently, you believe otherwise…
Do you actually write about them?
Such as the unreasonable demands made on Israel and Honduras?
The refusal to discuss human rights with the Chinese?
The “Smart Power” gesture of the
“reset”“overcharge” (peregruzka)button with the neo-Soviets?And then there is snubbing Britain; Ineptly haggling with Russia; Being snubbed by Iran; Giving al Qaeda and Iran a target date to strategize around in Iraq, and treating our best generals dismissively in the process; The whole closing Guantanamo debacle; you write about all those things on your blog?
How do you find the time?
The fact that obama is looking more and more like a one term president is a good reason for her to leave.
Anonymous, I am actually not trying to defend anyone. I just think a one-sentence, un-sourced blurb on a website doesn’t make for a great basis to claim Secretary Clinton is going to be running for Gov. of NY, that’s all. Relax.
I think she can walk and chew gum at the same time, actually. Perhaps she finds all this talk rather amusing and it doesn’t bother her at all. I just think that if I were in a position like SOS or Secy of Defense I’d rather answer questions and have media coverage about the work I was doing daily, not about whether I actually have any power, whether my boss and I get along and/or whether I’m going to quit for a better gig.
You relax, cupcake. You are the one whose panties are in a wad over this one sentence.
Class is in session kids:
Keep It Simple Stupid (KISS). Hillary does what is best for Hillary no matter what. The reason for that is she wants to be POTUS. She can’t do that when she is drowning in the USS BHO. Hillary must appear to making good decisions for the Librats and to stay in the limelight. If she jumps at another job it’s for the positioning of becoming POTUS. Limelight and power = HILLARY.
Class dismissed!!
I heard that too from an elected Democrat Official.
Hillary is not happy with Obama’s foreign policy especially issues related to Israel.
She is expected to quit her job SOS by the end of the year!
I guess she is holding up till the health care plan passes the congress.
Hillary’s boss is Israel and she got the order!
She is with Israel and Obama is with Hamas and Palestine.
This is the real reason.
Hillary kniws well she won’t run in 2012. Thatis not why she is leaving!
Hillary will quit her job with in weeks not months!
mark this post!
wtf?
Is that like a Global Zionist Conspiracy kind of deal?
‘Cause if so, you’re not likely to get much agreement from the readers of this website.
I’m just sayin’.
