I love my home town of Houston — but this is not something to be proud of:
More girls under 15 give birth in Houston than any other U.S. city, according to a new national report, and many of the city’s teen moms have additional children before they turn 20.
The report by the research organization Child Trends found that there were 20 percent more babies born to girls 14 or younger in Houston than in New York and Los Angeles in 2006 and that 24 percent of all Houston’s teen births were repeat births that year, the latest for which data is available.
“It’s cause for concern,” said Jennifer Manlove, a senior research scientist at Washington-based Child Trends, which uses data from the National Center for Health Statistics to produce the annual report. “Teen births are increasing again, both nationally and in Texas.”
Of course, people who don’t care that kids are having sex with each other — as long as they do so “safely” — have their own guesses as to why Houston is leading the nation in this dubious distinction:
The report was seized by Texas child advocacy and health groups as one more indictment of the state’s abstinence-only education policy.
Uh huh. Let’s blame teaching kids NOT to have sex with a bunch of kids running around having sex with each other. It couldn’t possibly be our hyper-sexualized culture — one that openly and proudly markets sex to children.
I expect that if the study was to indicate the race of the teen mothers and fathers, we’d find a rather disproportionate number of them are from Hispanic and black kids. Perhaps the problem lies more in their culture than in what’s being taught in school…
More specifically, I’m guessing that Houston being a “Sanctuary City” for illegal immigrants is also driving these teen pregnancies through the roof, as more-and-more illegals head to America to have their anchor babies.
_______
Updated to add that 94% of the births were to minority mothers… yet the real problem is the “ineffectiveness of abstinence education.” </rolls eyes>

I’m not impressed with this organization. And yes, they do attribute the increase to immigration though they try to downplay it.
Why not? It’s fun, you know. You and your friends get together and talk about, dress up, shop and show off you babies. And who cares? They have their mothers to pick up the slack (which is 89% of the time) so they can still go out and party and be “Kids” enjoying their youth. But the beauty of it all is that their kids will be citizens AND they can get on Food Stamps, Housing, etc. ALL free from the American Tax Payer! YAY!!!
Fun right? Like, Oh my god!!! (I’d have written that Valley Girl line in Spanish but I’m sorry I only know ENGLISH because I’m an American!!!!)
