Two Austin radio DJs were suspended without pay for using the term “wet vac” to describe a method the city should try to clean up the mud from the recent ACL music festival at Zilker Park. As in, “the city should get some wet vacs from Home Depot.”

Why was their show taken off the air (immediately) and the pair suspended without pay for a week? Because a few thin-skinned pussies called the radio show and said that they were “offended” because the term “wet vac” sounds very similar to the term “wet back.”

A listener, Celia Hagert of Austin, said she and her husband, Eduardo, thought they heard O’Keefe ask several times, “Why don’t they just go hire some wetbacks at Home Depot?”

“We were just staring at each other in disbelief,” Celia Hagert said.

I think Celia and Eduardo should un-pucker their assholes and lighten the fuck up.

The station VP and Market Manager, Scott Gillmore said that hosts Jason *Alvarez and Deb O’Keefe  of 101.5 FM “did not actually use any slur,” but he suspended them anyway.

So, apparently it only takes “a few” offended callers to get a show canned and the DJs sent home with no pay. What a bunch of bullshit

Though, I think going to Home Depot to hire some wet backs to run those wet vacs wouldn’t be such a bad idea, and would save the city some money on labor rates…

*On a side note, isn’t Alvarez a Hispanic surname? I thought you were allowed to use racial slurs as long as you are a member of the racial group that you are “slurring.” Kinda like Chris Rock being able to use the N-word every other word out of his mouth.
