In his Daily Brief feature at the newly-launched Texas Tribune, Reeve Hamilton notes that:
Rancher Hank Gilbert, Democratic candidate for Governor released a “clarion call” to end discriminatory practices based on sexual orientation and allow for same-sex civil unions.
Perhaps someone should remind Mr. Gilbert what happened the last time same-sex marriage came before the voters of Texas in 2005: On Tuesday, November 8, 2005, Proposition 2 was passed by an overwhelming 76% — 24% margin.
Texas Proposition 2 is an amendment that limits Marriage to opposite-sex relationships and prohibits alternative legal arrangements of a similar nature. The bill amended the Texas Constitution to make it unconstitutional for the state to recognize or perform same-sex marriages or civil unions.
