There is probably no bigger thug-filled organization in our country than the Service Employees International Union (SEIU). They are the strong-arm-tactics big brother of criminal enterprise ACORN. They are the group that Obama implored to go out and “punch back twice as hard” as a method of combating tea party Town Hall protests (SEIU promptly responded by going out and literally attacking and punching tea party activists).
When people need to be beat up or intimidated to further a Lefty cause — SEIU is who you call.
But this story from Allentown Park more clearly illustrates what is wrong with Union labor and how far they will go to protect “their interests:”
In pursuit of an Eagle Scout badge, Kevin Anderson, 17, has toiled for more than 200 hours hours over several weeks to clear a walking path in an east Allentown park.
Little did the do-gooder know that his altruistic act would put him in the cross hairs of the city’s largest municipal union.
Nick Balzano, president of the local Service Employees International Union, told Allentown City Council Tuesday that the union is considering filing a grievance against the city for allowing Anderson to clear a 1,000-foot walking and biking path at Kimmets Lock Park.
”We’ll be looking into the Cub Scout or Boy Scout who did the trails,” Balzano told the council.
Balzano said Saturday he isn’t targeting Boy Scouts. But given the city’s decision in July to lay off 39 SEIU members, Balzano said ”there’s to be no volunteers.” No one except union members may pick up a hoe or shovel, plant a flower or clear a walking path.
There is not a single union doing a single job that I support. In every single instance of today’s modern unions, the same work could be done better, cheaper, and more efficiently via free markets with free trade.
Every. Single. One.
Unions should be dismantled. They serve no purpose but to protect lazy people that could not otherwise work in the private sector.
If you don’t like the job that you have at the rate of pay and with the benefits you currently have — quit and find one that meets your needs. If the rate of pay and benefits are too far below market value, then the company will fail to fill it and will itself fail. If they are hiring truly unqualified people below market rate, then they will fail.
If I were the Labor Czar of America, and I could wave my hand and impose my wishes instantly — my very first act would be to make every single state a Right-to-Work state like Texas (right after that I’d make shutting down any business who employees illegal immigrant labor my next priority).

Your warm and fuzzy union is all PO’d about an Eagle Scout doing volunteer work where only Union members are supposed allowed anointed to tread.
This reminds me of the 2006 story out of Philadelphia when the plumber’s union freaked out because a skyscraper was going to be built with urinals that did not require water to flush. With no water required, they did not need to install pipes – not good for the union members.
Limbaugh frequently reminds us a deal was brokered where the plumbers got to install the pipes anyway, even though they would not be used. Great deal for the union.
No, they won’t; they’ll get bailed out with our tax dollars.
This sure doesn’t square too well with the Messiah’s volunteer program, now does it.
