Moving Update

I’ll get back to regular blogging after the new year, but till then, be excellent to each other and have a Happy and safe New Year’s Eve.

ESPN

Mike Leach fired! The school handed a termination letter to Leach’s attorney, Ted Liggett, just minutes before the two sides were to appear in a Lubbock courtroom for a hearing on the coach’s suspension. Liggett said the letter said Leach was “terminated with cause effective immediately.”

Watts Up With That?

Major northern hemisphere cold snap coming. For cold of a variety not seen in over 25 years in a large scale is about to engulf the major energy consuming areas of the northern Hemisphere. The first 15 days of the opening of the New Year will be the coldest, population weighted, north of 30 north [...]

Where in the World: Moving

And, though I’m excited about the new start — I’m also a little sad knowing that today is the last day in this place that has meant so much to me; a place that is filled with so many precious memories.

The Examiner

U.S. placed under international police-state. What, exactly does this mean? It means that INTERPOL now has the full authority to conduct investigations and other law enforcement activities on U.S. soil, with full immunity from U.S. laws such as the Freedom of Information Act and with complete independence from oversight from the FBI. In short, a [...]

Dave Barry’s Year in Review

I’ve been contemplating a “year end” wrap-up post — but then I read this one from Dave Barry, and realized he said almost exactly what I’ve been thinking about 2009. Only he did it much better and with way fewer curse words than I was planning on using.

Sen. Max Baucus (D-MT) — Drunk on the Senate Floor

Seriously — I showed up to my job even half that snookered, I’d be fired on the spot. Why should it be any different for the assholes ruining….errr….I mean running our country?

The Continued Wussification of the American Male

I’ve long contended that our society is undergoing a transformative (and unhealthy) feminization of the American male.

Kaiser Family Foundation

Health Reform Subsidy Calculator. This tool illustrates premiums and government assistance under the types of reform proposals being considered in Congress for people under age 65 who purchase coverage on their own in an Exchange and are not covered through their employer, Medicare or Medicaid. While the proposals considered would not take effect for several [...]

Houston: Suicide by Cop

If this woman had a gun in her home, she would have been able to defend herself when her lunatic ex-boyfriend broke her window the first time.

Merry Christmas

here’s one of my all time favorite Texas singer/songwriters, Robert Earle Keen. Tom at Houston’s Clear Thinkers has described Merry Christmas from the Family as “a slice of quintessential Texas culture.” I couldn’t agree more:

Arthur’s Hall Of Viking Manliness

THE TEN MANLIEST FIREARMS. This was a hard piece to write, because guns by definition are manly, except for Berettas, gold-plated TEC9s, .25 caliber pistols or anything made by the French. To simplify things, I have limited it to modern cartridge firearms a man might, can, and should collect and shoot. There are certainly other [...]

Democrat Jack McDonald Decides Not to Run Against Rep. Mike McCaul (TX-10)

I doubt that a single Republican incumbent loses in Texas in 2010. With the possible exception of the many Dems who have already jumped ship to become Republicans in Texas. They stand to be primaried by actual Conservatives.

Dems Jumping Ship

Rep. Parker Griffith, a freshman Democrat from Alabama, who is switching parties to become a Republican, joins 4 moderate Blue Dog Dems who have already announced their retirement — rather than face the inevitable landslide of defeat facing many Democrats in 2010 and 2012.
