Bing vs. Google: Pearl Harbor Tributes

As I noted in a post last week, I’m done with Google — the far-left search engine company — and am now an avid and devoted Bing user.

Two more reasons to choose Bing over Google:

1) Via Ace of Spades, we get this latest “do no Evil” statement from the CEO of the Most Evil Search Engine EVAH!:

This statement is taken out of full context. But — the question posed is whether people should trust Google, specifically, or treat it as their “friend.” Like, should you bBinge writing certain private emails using gmail? Should you trust Gmail as if it were a confidant? Should you search for naughty stuff on their search engines, assuming confidentiality?

Now, given that question, which could have been answered with a simple “Of course Google will protect your privacy to the extent possible,” the CEO here chooses instead to riff on the idea that basically everything that transpires in cyberspace is an open secret just waiting to come out.

Eric Schmidt answered:

“If you have something that you don’t want anyone to know, maybe you shouldn’t be doing it in the first place.”

Outstanding. In other words…all that porn you searched for on Google? It could still come back to haunt you. That salacious email you wrote to your wife’s sister? Could be used by Google to black mail or destroy you (but only if you’re a Conservative).

2) Today is the anniversary of Pearl Harbor.

This reminds me of last year, on the anniversary of D-Day, when google instead created a special logo to commemorate the birthday of Diego Velazquez.

Memorial Day last year? Same thing….no special notice at all. Just another middle-finger to our nation’s Veterans. Though they did create a special logo for Burning Man Festival.

The folks who own and run Google can suck my balls. Google — the company whose motto is “do no evil”, and defines that as:

  1. v. — helping the Communist Chinese government crush dissent and suppress the free exchange of information.
  2. v. — shitting on our troops and their heroic sacrifices every chance that we get.
  3. v. — selling your personal and private search data to the highest bidder.

  1. You conservative morons always crack me up, the way you can find a left wing conspiracy in everything, even search engines. Do you think Bing’s approach to China is any different to Google, and you will also be pleased to know that Bing retains users surfing details for twice as long as Google. Bing search results really suck as well so no doubt your retarded, fat, redneck, neocon ass will be back to Google in a month.

  2. Just like the left finds a conspiracy in the healthcare debate except this time one of your heros Harry Reid went as far as to say that the GOP supported slavery. When actually if you look at history it was the other way around.

    So get on your knees and blow away at all your lefty socialist buddies because they give you that good feeling that your sticking it to corporate america. Once Nov 2010 gets here Harry Reaid will be gone, Nancy will be dethroned and Hussein will become the ugly ducking.

  5. I like the Popeye logo. Google isn’t required to roll over for the veterans, or any other group. Fortunately for you, Robbie, there is Bing. I like Bing for the aeriel pictures they provide through their mapping service, but I like Google as well. Perhaps you are unaware that Bing is owned by Microsoft; the definition of “evil” would have to include a separate and stand-alone chapter for these sad bastards.

    • No one said that they are required to “roll over for the veterans”; however, for them to recognize numerous and insignificant holidays, people, and etc and not recognize what many, many Americans feel is an important day is BS. Within the past 48 hours, Google has shown that they respect Popeye’s creator more so than the lives lost at Pearl Harbor and the significance of that attack which was the beginning of the U.S involvement in the greatest war that the world has ever seen.

      Google chooses to show great disrespect towards the rememberance of Pearl Harbor. I chose, along with many others, to not use Google because of that.

  6. When did it become any corporation’s responsibility to honor the same groups that you honor? Is Yahoo, Dell.com, or Altavista also sticking it to the veterans by refusing to redesign their homepages to commemorate military holidays? I think you’re being overly paranoid or sensitive.

    Google only changes their logo to commemorate certain events, and those events are almost always positive and cultural. Google would not change their logo to a depiction of bombers sinking ships in the shape of G-o-o-g-l-e. That would be more disrespectful and irreverent than even doing nothing.

    For Memorial Day Google displayed a solemn yellow ribbon on their main page. For Veteran’s day they had a Norman Rockwell-esque drawing of a child saluting a soldier. These things are appropriate, positive, and artistic. They also supported and linked to sites like 911history.org on 9/11. I don’t want to see the Twin Towers as the “L” in GOOGLE, do you?

    On the other hand, Microsoft always displays large full-screen landscapes on their main page to highlight their Image and Maps features. Thus while Pearl Harbor is easy to commemorate in this manner, they will likely snub any holiday that doesn’t make for a nice-to-look-at panoramic photograph.

    Yahoo hardly commemorates any events because its main page is news which will naturally feature the day’s significance. Should we be writing blog posts about their uncaring attitude toward veterans?
