Today was supposed to be The Great Blizzard of 2009™ here in Austin. It’s pretty much all the weather folks and news stations have been freak’n out about for the last two days.

So, I bundled up — and by “bundled up”, I mean I threw on my Carhart jacket and my wool hat — and took the dogs out to the Ranch to play in the horrendous weather:

Except for one minor point — not a snowflake to be found. Though we did gather a sack full of just-fallen pecans from some of the 100-year old Pecan trees that line the Ranch.

It was a little chilly — about 40 degrees while we were out around 3:00 this afternoon. But perfectly sunny and just a hint of a breeze:

No snow up here on the plateu...let's go check down near the lake...

Nope, no snow down here at the lake.

Not too cold for a quick swim in the lake…

I know we don’t get the spectacular color changes in the foliage with the season changes here in Austin like some of you get elsewhere around the country, but we do get some:

A little winter color...but no snow. Just look at that sky...does that look like "severe winter weather" to you?

So, we survived The Great Blizzard of 2009 here in Austin (though, it is supposed to hit 22 degree tonight…damned global warming).

  2. No snow in San Antonio either. I loved the photos.

  3. Such gorgeous photos of the landscape and of some happy dogs!

  4. Where’s their parkas?
    Where’s their snow pants?
    Where’s their boots?
    Where’s their mittens?

  5. We had some gorgeous “snow” in Houston. It was coming down very hard for about two hours.

I took my dog out, and we jogged through the neighborhood. She insisted on running through the front yards (which were ~1″ deep in ice) even though she could not understand what was going on!

  6. It’s 21 degrees and an inch and a half of snow! Cats are freaking out when their paws hit the snow!!!!
