Avatar: Anti-American and Anti-Military Movie Making at Its Worst
Big Hollywood: “The roaring success of the anti-American, military-bashing, feast of political correctness that is Avatar represents some sort of validation of their [Liberals] worldview or a comeback for liberal film-making”
Just one more anti-America and anti-American values piece-of-shit from Hollywood that I won’t be seeing.
Liberals are as enamored with Avatar and as willing to forgive its obvious flaws as conservatives are with films that appeal to us such as Red Dawn. Like I said in my review, Avatar is the Left’s Death Wish 5. A bad movie but one with the kind of story Leftists find appealing. Trashing the military and our way of life is so fulfilling that Cameron’s ham-fisted story flaws wash over them in a sea of anti-American bloodlust. Avatar is a far cry from the dozen-or-so poorly lit, overwrought anti-war dramas no one bothered to see – this is a big-budget action epic where America gets its butt kicked. “Yee-haw!”
Just as conservatives revile street thugs and Communists, Leftists barely conceal their contempt for our military and country. Sure, plenty of fanboys are purchasing tickets again and again and are completely immune to the film’s propaganda, but Leftists who wouldn’t normally give a sci-fi spectacular their repeat business are surely returning again and again to get their HateAmerica on.

The first thing I thought and told my wife while we were watching it was that it was like watching a war movie from the enemies perspective.
Two things! First this is paramilitary made up of mercenaries. Second if I could choose anyone to defend me it would be our military and not blackwater.
In other words these paragrunts where into it for the money and nothing more. So to say this is anti-military is a misconception.
I have not seen it yet but I plan to. I don’t understand why so many people hate America. We are one of the only countries with the generosity of giving global aid for years and years.
The movie seemed to forget that terrorist killed their own, killed our citizens, 3000 on 911, and lack the word “peace” in their vocabulary. They have a culture of violence for generations, and it seems the movie left out all those elements.
It’s a amazing how so many people are blinded to the fact that the American military are fighting for freedom at home and abroad. So many people are in line to hand over their freedom, for what? so that you can have less than you already have?
You may see the bad guys as “American”, but to me they are just bad. Yes, they are like many that do hate the natural world here today and now, and will destroy all for the sake of greed, but many Americans understand the need for conservation, and long for grace and goodness in America and elsewhere. The fate of the world truly is in our hands. Life is not just a game of cojones for pseudo-tough people.
Dances with Wolves – IN 3D IMAX!!!!!!
very “Dances with Wolves”, I agree. Also in the aspect that there is bashing of the group military but there is support for the individual soldier with a heart. Americans see themselves as that compassionate individual, not as part of the group which is causing pain and suffering of others.
The spelling of “it’s” is wrong. It should be “its”. And unfortunately all the rest of the article is also terribly wrong…
…but I do agree that Avatar was a very bad movie. Simply, not for the same reasons.
Interesting that people see this as anti-military, anti-American. I saw the corporate greed pushing aesthetic beauty aside angle, but it seemed to me that the movie was very “Pro-All American Marine saves ignorant savages from being annihilated.” The protagonist is American, a Marine and part of parallel culture to American vision of USA. If not for his intervention, the aliens would just be chunky salsa. Even as such it shows that even a crippled, low level, unsophisticated grunt in our society is better than the fiercest warrior in another “less enlightened” culture.
Question: Does anyone know the military term used and what it means whens?? Part of one of the air/helicopter scenes. It had a number in it is all I remember.
Wait…What?? The people in the Avatar movie weren’t “enemies”. The military was trying to force them out of their land. They were peaceful people trying to live their lives without interference. Does everything have to do with liberals and hating America? It was a great movie! I fucking hate liberals too but this movie totally kicked ass.
I really like this kind of movie and when I first saw the previews I was very excited about seeing it. Then when I read the plot summary I was completely disappointed. I am not going to bother watching it.
And it looks like such a cool movie, too. Pity.
To Not watch the film because you didnt like the ploptline is being pretty closed minded. See and judge for yoyrself. Don’t blindly follow what others say
I will not watch the movie, because my money will not go towards someone who portrays us as “colonist” who invade others, to exterminate them and steal their resources.
The US is begged by other countries to intervene; when we do, and people start dying, (it’s war,…duh, I didn’t know people would die!), they hate us and claim we are evil incarnate. We are never “paid” for our help, or rewarded in any way. Our people die for their mess, and we don’t even get a discount on oil.
The reason this idiotic movie is so popular, is because American bashing is a big deal in Europe and Arab countries, etc.
I will not burden them with my filthy, American money; it just wouldn’t be right for me to force it on them.
I’ve read so many articles slamming this movie, I’ve lost count.
I’ll watch it when it is free on tv, but I am immune to the story line.
I just want to see ten foot tall blue people with USB cords coming out of their butts so they can communicate with Gaia.
The incredible success of the film, despite the topic, is what is truly amazing.
However, with the blogosphere and the like being the exception, I rarely hear the subject matter of the movie discussed by the public. I simply hear, “It looked so cool!”
Are there any examples of blatantly right wing movies doing so well?
Movies that are blatantly political (right or left) rarely do well at the box office. When you think about it, intentionally pissing off close to 40% of your intended customer demographic is not the best business practice. Obviously Avatar is an exception to this generalization. I suspect that it owes much of its success to the fact that the “cool” visual effects allow many people to overlook any problems they may have with the movie’s message.
It is just a story! People who say this movie is anti-American are really saying that greed and war are American values… Come on! The corporation depicted in Avatar could be any country (or corporation) in the world. Just go see the movie, enjoy a diffrent perspective and stop being so damn serious!
BTW: The special effects are amazing, and it would be a shame not to see it in 3D of the big screen.
The crippled Marine sure had an odd name for a French man.
Totally agree with Eggbert. It’s just a movie!
Fuck you Haley and egbert if this movie is from different perspective like anti military what if allied countries piss at us
Cmon, first off its a movie. But hey this movie would have to be Pro-American since ohhh i dont know didnt we get most of the land this country has today be screwing off the Indians, including using military force? I thought so.
With a message that many in this country don’t agree with, but it appears messages gain no purchase in your mind.
History is filled with the conquest of people by people, and while history isn’t always pleasing, often the outcomes are. Such as the forming of this great nation.
NO2 – the majority of movie watchers do not see the topic as revolting as you.
Blogs will tell you they do, but box office results will tell you the truth.
Which is exactly why internationally this movie is doing so well. This movie is completely Anti-American it’s obvious the mercaneries were American. The Corporation was American. Americans didn’t make this movie gross 1.9 billion dollars the hate toward America did. Domestically this movie made half a billion dollars. If you’re a white American go see this movie. You’ll be able to escape only left to feel bad for what really happened in real life. Good news though if the aliens would have taken the deal they too could have casinos on their land.
While it may have been the history of humans to conquer one another through military force for personal gain and profit, do you honestly believe that that is still okay with our 21st century national conscience? Why don’t you ask anyone in the US whether they think it would be okay to use our military to invade another country and massacre its people just so we can mine their natural resources. I doubt you’d find very many who thought it was okay outside of a few neo-nazi and kkk racists.
So we’re not using our military forces in the middle east to help build and protect an oil pipeline? To invade another country and take the resources we have to hide behind a war. Isn’t that the real 21 century way of America? Movies always have happy endings in some way. Real life is sad and disapointing. This movie is that exact example of that!
Great nation? Once, maybe. Have you been to Detroit recently? Or walked a block from your hotel in Chicago? Have you seen the ghost towns in northern Michigan? This “great nation” is about to explode (or implode).
Quit buying into the tripe spewed by Fox (and CNN…any news for that matter) and open your eyes.
What do Detroit, Chicago, and northern Michigan have in common? Go ahead…guess.
Quit buying into the donk tripe spewed by the MSM, DUmmies, and KosKids, and open your damn eyes for once.
If I was in front of you Brandon I would rip you head off forcefully don’t in duly the US asshole

Script is right out of something Howard Zinn would write. “White man bad, tribal race all good”. I imagine that 150 years from now (when movie takes place) the evil creedy white caracters who are taken out of the 1930′s will have been dead for 220 years.
What is funny is, years from now when this form of CGI movie making is common place, people will look upon this movie as a novelty for its use of new technology. The story line, already exposed as pathetic, will be unappreciated even more for its lack of depth and its ideological biases.
Like Pocahontas and Fern Gully.
Just got home from seeing it.
It will sell billions worth of tickets.
It was not very entertaining.
It looks awesome and it was entertaining and would recommend seeing just because.
But
Probably the worst written film I’ve see in several years, I didn’t have a problem with the overall plot even though its wholly predictable, but the writing and dialogue were just awful and unimaginative. The characters were all one-dimensional, the dialogue lacked any wit, and you never felt a connection to any of the characters. I feel like makers (Cameron) put to much focus on the look of the movie and the overall plot and ignored all subtlety.
THIS MOVIE DOES NOT PORTRAY THE US MILITARY! The troops in this movie are a private security force (guns for hire) that happens to be lead by a psycho-war-mongering-retired Marine Colonel. I am a Marine and I know some leaders like that, but not many! How is it anti-military if the military is not even portrayed? If you are not in the military or a veteran, then you have no business deciding what is and is not anti-military. This movies is about big, greedy corporations out to make a buck at anyone’s expense but their own.
Jessica…I am a Veteran. So I guess, by your own admission, that I do have “business deciding what is and what is not anti-military.”
Oh, and if you read the Marine Times, you’ll also see that the Marine Corps has denounced Avatar’s depiction of Marines.
You’re full of it, Jessica. If the majority of nonmilitary view it as anti-military, then your opinion doesn’t mean diddly.
The only psycho ex-military I know are all leftards.
thank you for your comment. my husband is in the military and away at training. your comment helps me put it into perspective.
So ex military men and women aren’t in any way still military? And the ex-colonel you point out guess what even in the movie still has pull. That’s why he offered Jack the opertunity to quit and go home to get his legs back. The movie throws marines shirts around. The movie thows terms like jarhead around. And your convinced it’s not us military. No country in the world has marines! The only thing missing in this movie to prove it was America the bad was the flag!! Come on Jessica use your high school diploma to see the truth.
Yes it does bitch. I am currently an infantry soldier in the 1st Marine Division deployed in Afghanistan right now!
Much ado about lanky Smurfs and big guns. I didn’t hear many people leaving the theatre grumbling about US imperialism or the evils of capitalism. The mercenaries in Avatar are no worse than those depicted in the other big sci-fi hit of 2009: “District 9″ (shot in South Africa).
There are lots of reasons not to like Avatar, but interpreting it as some sort of political plot is not a very credible one. This suggestion reminds me of a lady that refused to see Lord of the Rings “because fascists like it”. Eh?
Besides, where do see the American way of life in the film? It all takes place on a planet and some sort of high tech outpost.
The blogosphere anger is pretty out of control.
Neither of your opinions are very credible.
Hi Anon! Thanks for joining!
Get lost, creep.
this movie is all ” i hate America and the military” i was the only one cheering when the Marines shot the blue fuckers. The main character a “Marine” seems to have forgotten all about Semper Fidelis. And I’m a Marine combat vet so i feel i can make my voice heard on this matter
Jarhead, I totally agree with you. I am an Army spouse and we left the theater disgusted today. I was also cheering when they killed the aliens. This movie is definitely anti-military. I want our $40 back!
These guys were guns for hir. they werent the military, they were more like Blackwater. Thdey did portray the military as one dimentional. It does speak the truth to a degree aboutpeople blindly foillowing like lemmings
It does speak the truth to a degree about people blindly foillowing like lemmings
Oh, was this film about democrats/pwogressives and assorted other lefties?
Are you a marine jarhead? Cause I am! I am in Afghanistan right now. Infantry!

In China, for example, the film’s imperialist themes have upset audiences who believe that the plight of the aliens, the Na’vi, who are forced from their home by human industrialists, is a parable for Chinese people whose dwellings have been forcibly razed by local governments to make way for new construction. As one pseudonymous commenter quoted on Chinasmack.com wrote: “China’s demolition crews must go sue Old Cameron, sue him for piracy/copyright infringement.”
Fascinating – that some of you went to a movie that showed a clear bad people and good people – and because you thought they meant YOU as the bad people – you immediately sanctioned and cheered for the killing of the innocent people.
Step back a bit and look at that. You cheered for the bad guys killing the good guys in the movie.
Shows just how morally deprived and bloodthirsty you vets and vets wives are. You guys like to speak about honour and suchlike but i think youve just proved that you dont really have any – something everyone else knew anyway. I think YOU are the best argument for why the rest of the world cheers when they see a movie like this.
Great movie – because it outs closeted sadists like yourselves who would rather see innocents die on the screen that a possible insult to your artificial institution.
And im sure the military is full of people like yourselves.

‘Avatar’ tops box office for sixth-straight week -

UPDATE 2-’Avatar’ replaces ‘Titanic’ in record books -
LOS ANGELES, Jan 24 (Reuters) – “Titanic” just hit an iceberg named “Avatar.”
James Cameron’s sci-fi spectacular replaced his maritime melodrama as the biggest international release of all time during the weekend and is on the verge of claiming its worldwide crown, which also includes North American receipts, distributor 20th Century Fox said on Sunday.

Drug dealers make a lot of money too. Doesn’t mean their product is a good thing or good for society. I’m just saying…
Kind of like Wall Street bankers…
Banks, savings, and investments are excellent services and are both good and necessary for society. However, I wouldn’t expect losers like you to understand that.

What a bunch of bullshit. And if I want an intelligent opinion on anything, the last people I’m going to go to is some limey twit, obama, or you. Seriously, why would anyone take economic advice from a commie?
Oh, that movie was just fabulous. Anti-Military, Anti-Religion, Anti-American attitude, I love it. It is everything that needs to be said and no one is “hating” America. I think the country is full of dumbasses (I didn’t say all but it is pretty packed with nationalist idiots who will follow anything the wonderful government tells them.) But, there are people in other countries like that. So I am not saying that it’s just the U.S. It is however, the “Western Attitude” that is criticized. And it should be. Weather that movie would have made no money or a shitload of it (which yes, it did), I would have still loved it. Besides, people mostly go to see it for effects. I didn’t even want to see it at first because I thought it’d be just a bunch of mumbo jumbo of graphics effects and pointless action sequences. But that movie has a purpose. It’s amazing.
I am a veteran and have many friends who are in the military. Every one of them loved the film, and did not take offense at the the depiction of the military. They recognized that the thugs in the film were mercenaries, not solders. Those among my acquaintances that have served in Iraq despise the contractors and mercenary types, and if anything they agreed vehemently with how these morally despicable people were depicted in the film. the fact that the film is wildly popular (over half of its revenue is from the US, so anyone who want to believe that the popularity is due to foreigners watching it for the USA-bashing is deluded), tells you that Americans in general see it as good entertainment. So sorry right-wing, your politically correct, one-sided view of the world is not shared by the majority.
Doug: Go sell your bullshit to somewhere else. Take Hollywood with yo.
Doug, seeing as you are posting from a K-State ip address, I seriously doubt you are a military vet.
Maybe a pre-veteranarian student.
Your libturd position is not concealed.
Greetings conservative fucknut on a long-since dead thread: Haven’t you ever heard of the GI bill? Vets can go to college after the are discharged numbnuts.
I know, ankle biting asshole on a dead thread, that’s what helped pay my way through college/grad school. Your point, libturd?
Hey, NO2LIBS! Is Behr posting from the US?
No…he’s not. He’s posting from Milpitas, CA.
Hahaha! Thanks. His syntax is strange.
Definitely Anti-American, as all “indigenous” people know, considering the USA’s historic use of 25% of world resources. Cameron only missed immigration- people following their country’s resources after the Imperialists (‘American’ meaning USA or more precise, a Multi-national SuperClass of investors) deposed democracy and installed dictators for life. RE: Since 1860′s Hawaii, 1953 in Iran, Guatemala, African nations, South and Central American nations, East Timor, etc. Even tobacco companies do it- ruin the local competition and give the Marlboro franchise to the King’s brother! That’s why I wrote WMD Machete and Cell U.R., to promote education toward social justice, by reviewing the past and glimpsing the future.
Another CP-USA approved buzz phrase.
wow. you people really need to get a life. It’s a movie meant for entertainment. I’m a libertarian and I don’t see how’ this movie’s anti American. So what if there’s a liberal message behind it. It’s the whole good vs evil scenerio. Duh! The military isn’t everything. It’s fine to serve your country and support the military but these were mercenaries working for a corporation. The only reason they were considered “American” was the fact that American actors were used. Look at history, Britain controlled 1/4 of the world at one point and exploited foreign resources worse than the US. geez….
The biggest problem with the movie is that it is oh-so-true. Call it anti-American if you will. After all, there is a culture of “macho” here in apple pie land that puts the notions of “power” and “greed” above all common sense, goodness and Godliness.
It’s a cartoon, you idiot.
Looks like life is a cartoon to you.
People that take cartoons seriously crack me up.
Ok, Stimpy…give us an example of a country that is an example of common sense, goodness and Godliness.
I’m shaking with anticipation…
Turd.
Not to take away from what Robbie stated..just this moron’s take on it.
I am not in favor of anything that puts our military down in any way so I do understand Robbie’s point.
Where are you from? You do not support your military?
I bet you never served in your life or put your life on the line for anything…
You don’t offend me…
I know so many better people than you that DID put their lives on the line to protect us…
Your comment is worthless…
I wasn’t referring to the movie.
I was responding to Jim’s stupid ass comment.
Four of my family have served (Army) in Iraq and Afghanistan. Two are still in the military. One will be deployed for the second time to Afghanistan next month. My ancestors served honorably as well, and my uncle was a fighter pilot killed in WW2.
To all of you that worship the likes of Limbaugh and Beck, say “it’s only a lot of talk”.
Words do matter, and this movie conveyed a strong message that you are welcome to write-off if you are so inclined. That’s your choice.
It sounded to me like you were bashing our country…which I will never do. And anyone that does can go live somewhere else if they think our country is Godless, has no common sense, or “goodness”.
I never stated anything about Limbaugh or Beck.
But I do appreciate your family served our wonderful country. Sorry you seem to differ in opinion.
Perhaps we share more opinions than we differ on. Things often get lost in the sad polarization game that tends to be the norm in the media these days.
Jim
The true enemy in Avatar was not America and the US Millitary. The world Avatar takes place in is an Earth controlled by the RDA (Resource Development Agency) and other corporations. America (if it still exists) is more of a front for a corporation than an actual government like we understand it today. The control and greed of corporations on Earth has completely destroyed the environment and now people live in terrible conditions, except, of course, the fat-cats. Avatar is an attack on the politicians that are loyal to corporations, not their voters. (since that is what caused earth to become the shithole that it has become.)
While the film does throw around a lot of USMC terms (jarhead, oorah, “you may be out, but you never lose the attitude”) suggests that “America” still exists, but (as i mentioned) as a Corporate front. The Marines are still the best fighting force in the world (oorah devil dogs!) and as such, many of the hired guns are ex-Marines, since a resource as rare and important as Unobtanium would deserve the best mercenaries available.
Quaritch, as a leader and ex-Marine himself, still has the millitary tactics, leadership abilities, etc., but has completely lost himself to his own ego, pride, and power. Remember that on “day one” on Pandora he was attacked and scarred by something (possibly a viper-wolf) which completely destroyed the pride he rather rightfully had after surviving three tours in Nigeria “[without] a scratch”. Now he believes that “every [living thing on Pandora] wants to kill you and eat your eyes for jujubees.” He has a vendeta against an entire planet and he has the power to exact his revenge while making it seem as if it it is in the RDA’s best interests. Avatar uses Quaritch and the mercenaries as an example of what happens when a millitary no longer serves the people but, instead, serves itself or just its (egotistical) leader.
Avatar is a warning against a future that is all too possible. If America’s government ever falls to corporate control, the world will no longer be led by the people, but by corporate greed. The greed will destroy our planet as the fat-cats destroy nature to obtain another dollar. When we are completely screwed on Earth, we will spread out and do the same to other planets (Pandora for example). It is as Agent Smith says in Enter the Matrix (a rather philosophical film) Humans are a virus, or a disease. If we were to be led by greed, our civilization would become a virus in the oragnism of the Galaxy and potentially the Universe.
I agree with Kim sons of bitches
Im sure not All American`s are as stupid as the person that made this Blog, For starters this film is NOT anti-american. And idiots condemning it as should question how THEY see America , is it American to take what they want through superior force ? Is it American to steal from the Weak? Is it American to turn peace loving people into the enemy to justify their war for profit. Is it American to feed their people pure fiction to flame hatred of other cultures. America has invaded nearly as many countries as Hitler did, all in the name of freedom, and its always a freedom forced on a county. Is it a coincident that most of those countries freed are rich in oil? The axis of evil almost solely consists of oil rich countries, think its a coincident?
America may have once stood for something just, but it has become the bully of the world. Thats not me being Anti-American , i think most Americans are peace loving people who trust their government and military, they believe that the powers that be are there to serve and protect them, So its not the peoples fault it their governments and military lie to them and fill their heads with pictures of the world hating them. The trust that Americans have in their country is used as a weapon against them. Avatar is a brilliant movie that may be too close to homes for some Americans, its easily comparable to the struggle of the Indigenous American Indians against the Invaders that stole Almost all of their land and decimated their culture. If Avatar offends you then your probably suffering from a guilty contentious
Don’t let the door hit you in the ass on the way out, sweetie.
Looks like i hit a nerve
And look at how articulate your arguments against my view was lol. Please do the human race a favor and don’t have kids
