Why can't newspapers just tell us the race of the person they're asking us to be on the look out for?

Guess what’s missing from this report of an attempted assault in my hometown county (Montgomery):

A woman was attacked early this morning while jogging in south Montgomery County, authorities said.

The woman told Montgomery County sheriff’s deputies a man stepped out from a bike trail about 6 a.m. and grabbed her arm while she was jogging along Gosling, authorities said.

The man told her he was carrying a knife as he tried to pull her into the woods. He fell the ground after she grabbed for a tree branch, deputies said.

The woman was able to break free and ran for help.

She described the attacker as being in his early 20s with short brown hair. He is about 5-feet-9 or slightly taller and weighs 200 pounds. He was wearing white shorts and a black tank top and was last seen running south along Gosling.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Montgomery County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-392-7867.

Emphasis mine. Now…what one other piece of information on the suspect’s description is missing? What one other trait might make it easier for other people in the area to find this violent (possible) sex offender?

Yes…you in the back row with your hand up — that’s right: his race. I’m sure if the victim was able to pick out his height, weight, and clothing, surely she also noted whether or not he was white, brown, black, or other.

Since the race isn’t mentioned, I’m going to go ahead and assume the thug is black, as the Houston Chronicle seems to follow the MSM Style Guide of Political Correctness by not mentioning the criminal’s race when they are black.

  1. I’m not assuming any particular color….but yes that is a GLARING omission from the report. Agree the Houston Chronicle is hindering anyone’s ability to identify the perp which does put the public at higher risk.
I guess they’ve lost what little spine they had.

  2. I’m betting black OR hispanic. After all..we don’t want to offend the latino[or black] community by saying some of their members are useless pieces of meat that would be better off dead and feeding the worms. That would be UnPolitically Correct.
Me? PC? Not likely. although..I’ve been accused of hate mongering, of being a genocidal maniac [you had to have been there] racist, and other such distressful things. *sniff* I’m sooo misunderstood.

  3. Not Northern European or Asian as a perp from either group would have been called out.

  4. Short “Brown” hair? Anything long is a fro and Hispanics, unless died, have jet black hair. I’m just saying he sounds Caucasian to me. But I guess you know more about the reporting agencies style of reporting. I don’t live there.

  5. Read the damn description -

    early 20s
    short brown hair
    white shorts? black tank top?

Definitely a negro and probably speaks like one, too.

  6. Without including the race/skin color, the Chron might as well not even print the story. In fact, they shouldn’t have run this story without that information, as all it does is create fear of all men.
It could be the Chron expects its readers to be silent racists, like Chris Matthews.

  7. The Statesman has been doing this for quite some time. Generally you see their description lacking skin color, although the police are “desperately” asking for help from the public. Later you read the story and see the mug shots, showing the color you figured they probably were anyway. It’s crazy. They do this with Amber Alerts as well, which is even more foolish.

  8. As for 5′ 9″ being “fat”, some of you effete urban queerbaits might think so (but you also think you look good in those skinny leg jeans) — but there are plenty of real men carrying around 200 lbs on a 68-70″ frame quite easily.

Check out my buddy Steve Slaton — 5′ 9″ and 215 lbs. Don’t believe he really needs to drop 40 or so lbs:
