Another person dead after being mauled by dogs. Guess the breed for a nickle?

Johnny Wilson, 56, of the 10000 block of S. Aberdeen St., was dead on the scene, according to a spokesman for the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office who said Wilson was bitten by dogs at his home.

Wilson, who suffered severe head trauma, including having both his ears bitten off and at least one of his eyes mauled, also suffered injuries to both arms.

A source indicated Wilson’s daughter was the owner of the pit bulls and also possibly bred them. The dogs may have been scared by the low pitch of Wilson’s voice or in some other way, according to the source.

A couple of things: the man was attacked in his own home. By dogs that he knew and that knew him. I’ll bet you right up until about 5 seconds before they started chewing on his face and arms he and his daughter routinely touted what wonderful, safe, and friendly family pets they were.”Wouldn’t harm a fly. Never bitten anybody,” they’ve probably claimed a thousand times over.

The problem with pit bulls though is that they aren’t wired like most other dogs. And when a pit bull snaps, someone usually dies.

And did you see what it took to set them off? The low pitch of someone who lived in their home’s voice. Now, to all you pit bull owners out there…imagine that old man was your child. Or your father. Or your mother.

Or you.

It should be illegal and criminal to own pit bulls in the same home as children. And apparently old men, too.

  1. this is very sad indeed. my prayers go out to the family.

however, i do not agree with the guess what breed for a nickel comment… that is ridiculous.

any animal can attack any human at any given time. no matter what breed it is. trained or untrained, any animal is capable of snapping or turning. dont blame the breed, blame the owner. but i am sure she is blaming herself enough.

  2. Uh, huh. Jenna.

I fully acknowledge that any breed of dog not only can bite, but does bite.

But when Pits die, people die. At rate far greater than any other breed.

I’d much rather get attacked by my Beagle than your pit bull.

  3. I have read dozens of stories about this breed of dog doing this kind of act. I have yet to read about old shep or Goldie the golden retriever doing this.

  4. While deaths like this are the ultimate tragedy, if you look at the statistics all dogs can be dangerous and actually, if old shep is a collie, more people are bitten by him than any other breed. Having said that though American pit bull terriers have tremenous power in their jaws and when they bite can end be deadly. I think there is more to this story than what has come out: the man was living at his daughter’s house and the dogs had puppies. If she knew the dogs were agitated by the father’s voice, given their reputation and the fact they had puppies, why weren’t the dogs separated from the father?

  5. I can only assume that having 6 pitbulls in the south end of chicago is for one reason only and thats fighting. Nobody should have that many dogs let alone pits. How big was the house? Did the man abuse the dogs? There are many factors that play into these pitbull attacks stories. If you beat the crap out of your dog on a daily basis or fight them then you think that one day they might just say screw this and fight back or attack? Dont be so quick to blame the breed.

  6. I gotta agree with the anonymous on this one. Did you know that Dobermans had the same bad rep back in the 60′s and 70′s? Why? because people who didn’t have a FRACKIN clue, bought a dog they ultimately *feared* to protect them from their other fears; and beat the ever loving shit out of them in the process. Also because like Pits, people who have NO business breeding them are doing so. Hey thats a popular dog, lets start breeding them and make some easy cash.
Sigh..give me pit bulls over most people any day of the week.

  7. Here is a new News item of a pit bull ripping the diaper off a 6 month old baby and chewing the baby’s testicles off. I think the mother was in the other room doing some guy.

And yes, Dobbies have been known to turn on the owner. That was a huge thing in the 70′s

  8. This is such a misleading story and does no justice to the pit bull breed what so ever. Here we have the stereotypical “Pit bulls are viscous dogs.” saying. It’s really the owners fault I think. As said in comments before I think she was a fighting dog trainer and therefore trained her pitties to attack. I think the low voice tone thing is a bunch of crap if you asked me. The man probably did something out of his own stupidity and

    • You said “I think” three times.
I don’t believe you actually have once.

      • Oh and you my dear sir need to stop being so egotistical with yourself.

        • No, young lady, I’m not being egotistical with me or anyone else.
Simply pointing out that you said “I think” frequently and I don’t believe you have once.
Facts interest me more than the anecdotes about your pits.
Facts like this jailhouse interview with a pit bull owner after his step-grandson was killed by his dogs.

he doesn’t believe he is “totally responsible” for the boy’s death, but acknowledged that he had ignored warning signs – including when one of the dogs killed his Chihuahua.

What I have come to expect from these types of dog owners.

Asked if he believed pit bulls are a dangerous breed, Hayashi paused and said, “What I know now? Yes.” He added, “Pit bulls – all dogs in general – I don’t want them. I don’t care for them.”

Before the tragedy, Hayashi said he had always believed that pit bull owners – and not the dogs themselves – were the problem.

“Well, I used to think that way,” he said. “That’s what got me into this mess, just thinking that they’re just regular dogs. I can understand a dog biting or nipping, but to maul somebody until he’s dead? To tear out somebody’s face?”

Finally, he is struck up side the head with a clue bat, but it takes his 2 year old grandson being mauled to death before it does.

That’s why I don’t care what you claim to think, because you clearly aren’t.

    • Ah! I don’t know how this happened. Read down two posts. Sorry.

  9. The man probably did something out of his own stupidity and got attacked by one of the pit bulls, and since dogs are pack animals the others joined in thinking that the pitt bull that was attacking was in trouble.

I have two pure bred pitt bulls and a mutt whose father was pit bull and mother was dalmatian and I’m eighteen! They are all farm dogs on a horse farm and all of them are the best dogs I ever had. I had two golden retrievers before and they always used to bite the horses face and legs while my one pit Ella loves to rub up and even cuddle my miniature horse. So all these articles are doing are making the ignorant stereotypical believer people out there have more of a reason to believe that they are right.

  10. I Agree with you heather as i have 3 pitbull of my own: 2 pure pitbulls and 1 pitbull cross staff. These are the best dogs ever. if it was not for my pitbull i wouldnt be here today:)
