Last night’s State of the Union speech by our below-average, one-term President will — once history has time to catch up — be a text book example of how NOT to give SOTU speeches to future Presidents.
If our nation survives this one.
Perhaps the entire SoTU speech was best summed up by Supreme Court Justice Sam Alito, who had to suffer through the entire thing from the front row:
As soon as Barack Obama brought up the Supreme Court’s recent decision to uphold the first amendment, and prefaced it with “With all due deference to separation of powers,” I knew he was about to be anything but than deferential to the members of the highest court in the land. Unless, if by deferential he meant disrespectful.
But in a Joe Wilson “You lie” moment, Justice Alito was shaking his head “no” and mouthing the words “not true.” Or “you lie.”
Which, again, can summarize almost the entire speech.
Even the Associated Press, normally found on their knees fellating the President, had to call “bullshit” on some of the lies told during the speech:
OBAMA: The president issued a populist broadside against lobbyists, saying they have “outsized influence” over the government. He said his administration has “excluded lobbyists from policymaking jobs.” He also said it’s time to “require lobbyists to disclose each contact they make on behalf of a client with my administration or Congress” and “to put strict limits on the contributions that lobbyists give to candidates for federal office.”
THE FACTS: Obama has limited the hiring of lobbyists for administration jobs, but the ban isn’t absolute; seven waivers from the ban have been granted to White House officials alone. Getting lobbyists to report every contact they make with the federal government would be difficult at best; Congress would have to change the law, and that’s unlikely to happen. And lobbyists already are subject to strict limits on political giving. Just like every other American, they’re limited to giving $2,400 per election to federal candidates, with an overall ceiling of $115,500 every two years.
FINAL VERDICT: LIAR!
OBAMA: He called for action by the White House and Congress “to do our work openly, and to give our people the government they deserve.”
THE FACTS: Obama skipped past a broken promise from his campaign — to have the negotiations for health care legislation broadcast on C-SPAN “so that people can see who is making arguments on behalf of their constituents, and who are making arguments on behalf of the drug companies or the insurance companies.” Instead, Democrats in the White House and Congress have conducted the usual private negotiations, making multibillion-dollar deals with hospitals, pharmaceutical companies and other stakeholders behind closed doors. Nor has Obama lived up consistently to his pledge to ensure that legislation is posted online for five days before it’s acted upon.
FINAL VERDICT: LIAR!
But really…just about the entire speech was a rehash of his already-broken campaign promises.
Why should we suddenly believe him now? In fact, if you did believe anything Obama said last night, go ahead and tear up your voter registration card right now. Because you are too stupid and uninformed to vote.

By this point it’s pretty obvious that The One and his True Believers are not, never have been, concerned with facts.
His speech did not change anyone’s mind. If he said the sun rises in the north and sets in the east, his supporters would accept it as though it came straight from the mouth of God (since, in their minds, BHO and God are so close as to be indistinguishable from each other). Anyone able to separate fact from fantasy was never an Obama supporter.
Has anyone seen someone do a fact check on the speech yet? I just started looking for one.

One other thing – Obama spoke almost purely to the possible effects of the ruling in years to come, not the legal merits themselves. That Alito would overtly react like that to such statement speaks volumes about the radicalism of his judicial philosophy. The notion that judicial determinations be made on the merits and not outcome predictions is as basic to Anglo-American jurisprudence as stare decisis. So when you have a movement who believes that established law like HC and the Geneva Conventions are simply quaint artifacts of a simpler time, it’s no surprise when your high court becomes packed with political actors who become part of the DC Kabuki theatre instead of objective learned minds of the type envisioned by the Founders. Alito’s revealed himself to be nothing but a cheap political hack masquerading in a black robe.

The only thing Obama has not done that he, according to you, may have “lied” about was pass a Health Reform bill. Sure I am upset that it hasn’t been passed yet, and very upset that PUBLIC OPTION is even an issue, but for some reason he believes in a thing called bipartisanship, a thing that I can care less about….so yeah he cares about what you selfish fucks think. So there are some Democrats in office, and if I was in office I would be one of them, that would not support this bill that does not have SINGLE PAYER OR a PUBLIC OPTION. If the blockers cared about the American people, there would be no blocking whatsoever. With a PUBLIC OPTION EVERY AMERICAN would be required to pay for their won health care and should because it would be affordable, unlike now.
