Gov. Rick Perry support'n the second amendment

Gov. Rick Perry support'n the second amendment

Yesterday, the Texas Tribune reported that former President (and a damned fine American) George H. W. Bush (41) was going to endorse Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-Washington D.C.)  for Governor of Texas.

Well, today Governor Rick Perry trumped that endorsement with one that will hold a lot more sway over a lot more Texans: the Texas State Rifle Association is backing Rick over Kay (h/ to Rick vs. Kay):

Austin, TX. The Texas State Rifle Association Political Action Committee proudly announces its endorsement of Texas Governor Rick Perry for re-election in the Texas Republican primary election on March 2, 2010. Governor Perry has a proven track record of standing in support of the rights of all law-abiding Texas gun owners, not only by signing pro-gun bills, but also by speaking out on behalf of gun owners on numerous occasions.

Among the bills Governor Perry signed are the following:

  • The “Castle Doctrine Bill” strengthening the rights of Texans to defend themselves;
  • The “Motorist Protection Act” allowing law-abiding citizens to carry defensive handguns in their cars without having to meet vague and inconsistent definitions of a “traveler;”
  • “Emergency powers” bill to prevent a New Orleans style confiscation of guns and ammunition from Texans in times of disaster;
  • A bill to reduce the fees by 50% for obtaining a Texas Concealed Handgun License paid by seniors and our military veterans;
  • A bill to extend the term of Texas Concealed Handgun Licenses from four years to five, effectively lowering the total cost by 25%.

Governor Perry’s dedication not only to protecting but expanding the rights of Texas gun owners has earned him an A+ rating from both the TSRA-PAC and the NRA-PVF. TSRA-PAC strongly urges all Texans to go to the polls on March 2, 2010 and vote for Rick Perry in the Republican Primary.

The Castle Doctrine bill is perhaps the single best bill signed into law in many, many years in Texas.

Gun Range with the Governor

And just to emphasize how awesome our Governor is when it comes to the second amendment and gun ownership in Texas, I’ve been invited along with a small handful of other Perry supporters to join Gov. Perry at a local gun range to practice our second amendment rights, put a few rounds down range, and compare our preferred choices for concealed carry.

I really can’t tell you exactly how excited I am about getting to spend a few hours at a gun range with our state’s Governor. Plus two of my favorite Texas lady bloggers, Dr. Melissa Clouthier and Kathleen McKinley are going to be there also. Guns and politics? Yes please. Hot Conservative chicks shooting guns while talking politics? Oh, hell yeah.

I’ll have pics and a new blog post tomorrow evening about the gun range with the ‘Gov (after I get home from the reception for Rick Perry’s Blogger Summit (which includes special speaker Andrew Breitbart of Big Government, Big Journalism, Big Hollywood, and Breitbart.TV fame).

Hopefully I can get Gov. Perry to autograph my used target when we’re done. ‘Cause that would be awesome.

  1. That’s great!
    I meant to ask the other day if you knew about the blogger’s summit.
    Getting to go to the range with the Gov. and fellow bloggers is a real treat.
    What will you be taking?

  2. Good to know….thanks.
    I’m a Perry supporter, anyway.

  3. Some of those bills sound good, but I would want to know the details. But the notion that giving a LICENSE has ANYTHING to do with recognizing a RIGHT is an indication of how much you have to learn. CCW *license* is a joke in Texas with so many restrictions (placed in there as poison pills) you would be better off not getting one. Why are other states, like New Hampshire, way ahead of us in terms of open carry, etc….? I would think someone trying to appeal to Texans would present that as a challenge – how can we let New Hampshire beat us on this issue?

  4. D’oh!

    HOUSTON — U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison secured a high-profile endorsement Friday from former President George H.W. Bush in the increasingly contentious battle for the Texas GOP gubernatorial nomination.

    That’s gotta sting.

    • That’s gotta sting.

      No Muhammad, I don’t think it stings at all.

      Perry ought to wear the fact that Washington D.C. beltway crowd loves KBH like a badge of honor.

      Now STFU and go away you freaking liar!

  5. How can anyone claim to be a TEXAN and vote for corporate sellout slickrick perry? Cmon people havent you heard of Debra Medina? If you havent please visit http://www.medinafortexas.com and check out her stances on everything. A vote for principles is NEVER a wasted vote. Rick perry is bought and paid for, its time to take our state back.

    • How can anyone be a Texan and vote for Higher sales tax???? That’s what you get with Mejina. That’s what will happen IF she were to win and get rid of property taxes. But, let not your heart be troubled, she sunk her own ship with 9/11 debacle on Glenn Beck….BWAAAHAAAAHAAAAAAA

  6. Oh right. That was the “debacle” where Glenn Beck said he wants to French kiss Rick Perry – and that Rick Perry looks good in a pair of jeans. I remember. Here is the audio: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oQuTEF9ba2s
