A tragic accident occurred here in Austin when Erick Nuncio-Moreno, 19, lost control of his car and plowed into a bus stop around 7:30 a.m. yesterday morning. Sadly, two women were killed while waiting on their bus.
Investigators are trying to figure out how Erick Nuncio-Moreno, 19, could suddenly lose control of the car he was driving.
Nuncio-Moreno is charged with two counts of manslaughter and is being held on $100,000 bond.
“A single vehicle was traveling northbound on South First and for unknown reasons lost control, skidded off the roadway and struck the bus stop,” said Lt. Carpenter.
Before charges are filed, they might want to test the brakes and gas pedal on his 2001 Toyota Celica… (apparently Toyota’s have been having a little issue with sticking gas pedals and faulty brakes lately)
However, one of the witnesses said the Nuncio-Moreno was speeding around that corner…he said he thought the Celica could have been moving as fast as 90 mph — in a 35 mph zone.
Not surprisingly, Nuncio-Moreno is a young man who loves to drive fast. He is an active member of the Texas Spokes Sports Car Club, competing as recently as February 7 of this year in a race at the San Antonio Raceway, where he came in 98th out of 122 drivers — which lends credence to the account that he was driving faster than his questionable driving skills (and the law and road conditions) permitted.
(So far, no other media outlet is reporting Erick’s racing history)
Sadly, this young man’s stupidity and immaturity just cost two people their lives and ruined his own.

UPDATE: According to the Austin American-Statesman, racing was the cause of the accident:
Austin police say a 19-year-old man was attempting to race another vehicle in South Austin on Saturday morning, causing his car to careen out of control and strike a bus stop killing two women there.
According to his arrest affidavit, Nuncio-Moreno pulled up to the stop light at South First Street and Stassney Lane in his Toyota Celica sport coupe around 7:30 a.m. Saturday. He revved his engine at another driver, as if to initiate a street race, but that driver told police he heard the Celica’s engine and “knew it had something under the hood” and did not want to race, the affidavit said. When the light turned green, Nuncio-Moreno sped off, spinning the tires and heading northbound on South First Street, the affidavit said.

Stupid, stupid stupid.
Real racers know the street isn’t the place for it. This kid is a total dumb-ass and other people have to suffer because of it.
You dont even know what you are talking about dont be talking shit how do you know it wasnt an accident i know Erick he wouldnt do that on the street
We’re sure that he didn’t intend to plow into the bus stop. However, there is more than enough evidence that he was street racing which caused him to lose control of his vehicle and kill the two women. Street racing is a highly dangerous activity, therefore it is foreseeable that someone would be killed.
Your friend is in a whole lot of trouble and telling others to shut up about it isn’t going to help him.
He will post bail and be off to Mexico and the media will keep quiet about it.
Yep.
Though, I have to admit, if I were Mexican (or Hispanic) and fluent in Spanish and was facing life in prison — if I got out on bail, I’d be across that southern border faster than Nancy Pelosi can blink her eyes.
When I frist heard of this punk I knew it had to be a mec because they always think they car r the fasts in th e world of
First of all, RIP for the innocent victims of this act of stupidity. Two, how do you know he is from Mexico? the guy is an American. is like saying “he’ll post a bail an go back to Africa” (to a black guy)stop being ignorant. I knew the guy, he messed up bad and now has to pay for it. Hopefully this will be a message to youth elsewhere to drive carefully and responsible.
I didn’t say he’s from Mexico (reading comprehension down?). But he is Mexican, most likely speaks Spanish, and could easily slip into Mexico and evade US justice by the nature of being Mexican.
being Mexican is that you are born in Mexico. not the color of the skin. he is Hispanic or Latino your choice. you don’t even know if his decedents are from Mexico. there are 19 countries in Latin American after Mexico frontier, that is 458 million people, with similar Hispanic names, yet you think he is Mexican because he speaks Spanish?
Sorry, Anony Mouse, but you must not know many “Mexican-Americans” or Hispanics (having grown up less than 1/4 mile from the Rio Grande, I’ve met more than a few) — but I don’t know a single Hispanic who doesn’t consider themselves (proudly) “Mexican”, “Puerto Ricano”, “El Salvadorian”, “Dominican”, or wherever their heritage is from — most consider themselves to be first their ethnic heritage and American second.
Go to any US vs. Mexico soccer game in the US and listen as all those proud Mexican Americans loudly boo the US squad while waving their Red, Green, and White flags.
Actually, Erick only competed in the one spokes event in February. Hardly an “active member”.
The guy was released from jail. If he is of Mexican decent and has family in Mexico you can bet your last dollar that he is going to make a run for the border.
And before anyone calls me a racist I am from Puerto Rico. Proudly served 7 years in the military and consider myself both Puerto Rican and American. Not in any particular order though….
I’ve got a lead foot but damn.
Wow. Grow up all of you. Shit happens. What can you do? Instead your being racist to people you dont even know. How pathetic. First of all, the only proof you have that he was racing was ONE other person…but what if that person had to do with the accident. I bet he/she wouldn’t admit it. Besides..have you seen that street??? Is it even possible to go that fast without flipping way before that? There are so many different stories. Some saying he killed the people WHEN THE CAR WAS FLIPPING..and others saying he killed them BY RUNNING STRAIGHT INTO THEM. You cant come to conclusions. No one was there..and this guy who was next to him (supposedly) wouldnt even be able to tell how fast he was going if he wasnt racing him too. haha. Now I have heard.. and for those people who hate me by now..go ahead…but I have heard that there is a witness who says that the car who was next to Erick pushed his car which made him loose control. And if Erick has raced before..dont you think he would know how to control his car. Thats all I have to say.
You grow up, kid. Every time something like this happens, the usual bozos turn up with the lame excuses.

And, you’re wrong. There are a number of witnesses to what occurred. There is also traffic accident reconstruction where they can tell the rate of speed by the skid marks or lack of skid marks:
Ve2 = {Vi2 – 2aD} ½
Vi = initial velocity, in feet per second (FPS)
VE = velocity at the end of skid, in feet per second (FPS)
a = acceleration/deceleration, in feet per second squared,
D = skid distance, in feet
So much for html superscript.
one of those ladies he killed was my moms best friend.
Actually the other car hit his car and that’s why he lost control of the celica. I know Erick since high school he was dating a friend of mine and therefore I know woulnt do something like that on purpose
Bull. No other car hit him. He was driving too fast for conditions and lost control of his car.
